Feefo came through with his expected MF Doom submission, but Ken came with a true "hold my beer" moment when he said The Black Album. He got tired of Feefo having the worst opinion, he wants the crown.

@@joshuaDstarks Does he say why? It's hard to argue against the album being great. Whether it had more hype around it being his "retirement" album or not, the album speaks for itself. It's like he has more of a problem with the album roll-out than the actual music. Kind of silly.

21:56 Get rich or die tryin is still a classic but it sounds dated as hell because one reason. 50 Cent was the last 90s era rapper to really blow up. After 50 cent era it was the younger kids/internet era. We got Souljaboy dances and less hardcore lyrics. More 123 abc type rap. The beats all became southern trap influenced. I agree with so many of these takes. MF Doom, Cudi, GZA, ASAP, and Ghost all resonate with me. Decent, but overrated to me. Black Star, Black Album and IDAHIH are all really good to me though. IDAHIH was HUGE at the time and the Black Star LP was important for underground NY hip hop in the late 90’s. For me though, the major issue here is that there is a lot of revisionist history with these albums. Most of these albums weren’t considered classics at the time. Most of them were just seen as good albums. Be real, we’re these albums received as instant classics at the time? Or even in the 2-3 years after the albums run? Most people weren’t looking at the Black Album as a classic. The Rocafella/Def Jam marketing team were, but the public? I like that album too but it weren’t received like universal praise. It’s a good album. People are way too ready to go back and give out the classic label to albums these days. Are some of these albums Culturally important. Yes, in some cases. Popular? Yes, most of them anyway. Classic? We need to stop these fairytales we tell each other about older music.

The second half loses a bit of steam. Mecca and the soul brother good album, Love Pete Rock as a producer. I go back towards the first 8-9 records. Cl smooth best rapping is on the main ingredient. Great adventures of Slick Rick. Slick rick is the greatest storyteller in hip hop, this album has too many skips. Other than Children's story, Mona lisa, Kit whats the scoop, the rulers back, the moment i feared. Otherwise the album I dont care for.

I wish Mike was here for this, he would have been great. Here are some of my controversial takes: 50 Cent doesn’t have a classic album. I don’t get what’s special about him. He’s not very lyrical or interesting to me. Lil Wayne is overrated. He has talent but he’s annoying and has some super corny puns. Method Man Tical could have been better. Liquid Swords is an incredible album but the song BIBLE is trash. The beat is weak (and I’m a huge Ohio players fan btw) and the lyrics sound like an 80 year old Bill Cosby telling you to pull up your pants and telling girls not to wear short skirts. I like Scaring The Hoes but I can’t get into Danny Brown because his voice sounds like a homeless crackhead screaming at the voices in his head. Childish Gambino should stick to singing.

Regardless of how you feel about 50, GRODT is definitely a classic. You don’t have to be the best lyricist to make a classic album. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it and that’s fine. Do you also not think Doggystyle or The Chronic are classic albums?

@@mistahmstWhat is your definition of a classic album? I’d say it’s one that has stood the test of time, was important for its time, and you’d recommend novice fans listen to it. I’m personally a huge fan of The Chronic and Doggystyle but I think they have better production value than GRODT and they birthed an entirely new style of Rap. They wrote the blueprint for the sound of West Coast HipHop. I can understand if somebody likes Get Rich but I can’t get into the beats very much and 50’s style doesn’t impress me either. He showed a lot of promise on how to rob, and I definitely like some of his songs like 21 Questions and Hate It or Love It, but overall GRODT doesn’t do it for me and it’s a classic for some people, but I would recommend other albums from the early 2000s and don’t every try to revisit it. I think 50 is a funny guy and very entertaining when he’s talking, but I prefer other rappers when it comes to music, but keep in mind, I’m very biased towards 90s rap specifically.

@@Dog-999i my criteria for classic albums is pretty much the same as yours and I’d say GRODT checks all those boxes. There are a few songs that are a bit dated, but it still holds up overall. I thought the production was great for the most part and 50 fit those beats perfectly. It’s the perfect balance of raw and gritty while still being commercially accessible and catchy, which few rappers have really been able to pull off. I honestly can’t think of many hip-hop albums (mainstream or underground) from the 2000s to present day that are better.
