Thank you Dario for confirming for me that the Gen 4 LH8 block is indeed stronger than the Gen 3 L33 block esp. as a high boost turbo platform. I was always a fan of the LS factory iron blocks for strength and cheapness but not a fan of the additional 100 lbs that came with strength. My goal is to do a twin turbo 5.3 LS swap for my Gen 2 LT1 in my '95 Caprice 9C1 for Auto X and road course track days not so much drag racing. So weight and balance is more of an issue.

That's great to know 100% I had heard the crank and rods where pretty much the same.. I don't know the lt cranks where forged that's cool.. I think the lt4 rods are bigger then the stock lt1.. Same as lsa rods vs ls9 from what little I've looked into it.. now you have my curiosity level up think I'll have to research some more on this lol

I'm glad your back filming I really like this form of build where your making stuff work. Just curious you made the comment as long as you can keep the heads down why not use gen 5 5.3 and convert back to port Injection. I know the DI stuff is hard on intake valves but it seems the new stuff has canted valves not super noticeable but it's like 10* opposed. Also note the ports on the intake are moved upward. Also don't know if the 5.3 blocks have it (I have heard they have and haven't) but gen 5 is supposed to have piston oil squirters which will keep cylinder temp down for higher boost. Another thing that I don't know if it transferred from lt to truck block is that the head bolts are larger in size by 1mm all those things may be worth looking into. I'd really like to get the lv3 v6 for my regal wagon to have a 4.3 v6 to keep the "heritage" of Buick
@Thehouseofboost
@Thehouseofboost 5 жыл бұрын
Dirtfloorfab I plan to go to the LT platform in my car eventually, ict billet makes intake adapters to use an ls7 intake on a LT, they are far superior platform, they just need to become more affordable

@@Thehouseofboost I know what you mean about the affordability part, this video peaked my interest so I quick got on car-part after to look for a gen 5 4.3(lv3) found one for 680 semi local...... It was sold... I'm kind of hesitent to dive into the v6 stuff cause I know there won't be much aftermarket for them aside from what will transfer from it's bigger brother. But someone's gotta do it I guess. Most of the l83s are going for 2500$-3000 around me which is a ways out of my reach

I'm in the same boat, have an LQ4 and LS1 block, want to build a bigger inch stroker for a T-56 GTO, thinking about using a Speedmaster block or GenV 5.3 sleeved or L8T bored to 4.125" and want to use a normal bolt pattern cheaper 4.125" LS crank, assemble it with cheap donor L83/L84 5.3 for the top end, sensors and everything and use Holley to control it. Because big bore long sleeve LS blocks are so much more expensive, unless the Speedmaster iron block could handle bore/stroke to 441ci since they're $1800.

What I have been wondering, since the Gen V blocks are cheaper now if you want to go 4.065"-4.125"+ bore size and want more sleeve to run more than a 4" stroke, at least a 4.125" stroke and if you want a normal LS flywheel/flexplate and a less expensive crank, is if I can use a Gen III/IV 4.125" crank in a Gen V block, I have seen plenty of GenV crank adaptation for earlier blocks but, not the other way around, a 441ci Gen V either a sleeved 5.3 or an iron 6.6 L8T block, even if the short block was a budget deal assembled with with everything from an L83/L84 5.3 should be a strong performer, especially now that there is Holley EFI to control it, those heads flow similar to 821/823 rec ports, you should be able to run very high compression with the DI for n/a work or use supplemental port injection with boost and have a monster well it's way to four digit power without spending nearly as much as a big bore LS since LT is.becoming more prevalent, is in.active production.and is less sought after by the hoodrat hot rod crowd right now.

Just wondering if you had run yours yet and if so, did you run into any issues with it? @edwardciaglia7494
@edwardciaglia7494 5 жыл бұрын
Head bolt pattern is the same as well, they just changed the dowel location from the bottom corners to the top. LS lifter trays bolt into an LT if you want to eliminate the DOD. The LT cylinder liners are cast into the block, you don’t see where the liners end on the deck. They improved the oiling, and all LT motors have piston squirters. There is also an outlet out of the back of the LT oil pump that feeds the #1 main bearing. In my opinion, the LT block is a much better platform. Bell housing bolt pattern is the same too
