The solo part was recorded in the Studio by Alex Lifeson. Here it was played almost 1:1.

Heavy Pink Floyd influence with a dash of Rush, King Crimson, and Tool. Saw them at Radio City Music Hall in September. They were fantastic.

I've been a Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson devotee for over 15 years. To my mind Steven Wilson is stratospheres above any other writer, arranger, producer and performer. The Porcupine Tree body of work is extensive, and consistently spectacularly good. Add Wilson's solo works, and you have the standard that every other band will strive, and almost exclusively, fail to achieve. The Porcupine Tree line up, particularly the inclusion of John Wesley's fluidly excellent lead guitar and rangy vocals for live performances, cannot be matched - Gavin Harrison ( most diversely accomplished and technically brilliant drummer out there ), Richard Barbieri ( the best I have heard for keyboard and synth harmonies and atmospherics ), and Colin Edwin on bass, again, a master of his instrument. Steven Wilson is a musical genius, both in the studio, and on stage. Can I recommend some more titles for your reaction : Hatesong ( live in Chicago ), Disappear, both extended 1997 demo and version on ' Recordings' album, Dark Matter ( live at Tilberg ), What Happens Now ( both live at Tilberg and studio version ), Cheating the Polygraph ( live version ), Strip the Soul ( studio version ), Fear of a Blank Planet ( live at Tilberg ). The list is endless, and it is largely unanimous that their live performances are as good as, or better than, their studio versions, with, in my own view, a couple of exceptions, as stated.

Welcome to the world of Steven Wilson (singer), the guy is an absolute genius, he is Porcupine Tree. Also his solo albums are works of art, and he's the go to mixer for bands like Yes and King Crimson amongst others to remix their albums in 5.1 surround. He's like a modern day Frank Zappa.

The whole Tilburg concert are one of the best live concerts ever recorded. Way Out Of Here are one of the many masterpieces. The drummer Gavin Harrison have played with King Crimson together with two other drummers. Three drummers on stage infront of the band. Looking forward to see you reacting to more PT kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6G9qaqbabiLj5o

A catalog dive into PT is going to be full of surprises for you. They don't always sound like this. Early on it's very spacey, then it moves into more like Prog-pop and prog-rock, then it moves into the more prog-metal phase, then they disbanded, with Steven Wilson embarking on a very successful solo career. Parts of PT re-united in 2022 to produce a new album, Closure/Continuation, which is another really good record.

Saw them perform this live in London a few weeks ago...just brilliant. Their early albums were quite psychedelic a la early Floyd, then they changed to shorter songs for a few albums then switched to more metal but all the time being very proggy

Such a great band live, Steven Wilson always surrounds himself with great musicians, in PT as well as on his own projects. Have seen both PT and Steven live, some of the best show's I've ever seen.

Porcupine Tree is amazing! This is probably their best song, but they have lots of great songs. Seen them live twice and they blew my mind. If you want to react to their albums try Fear Of A Blank Planet or In Absentia!

Dude: I'm glad you finally watched. Just FYI I had suggested this to you, as I'm sure a number of other people on here did, about a year ago. I, like you, was and still am, a huge Rush fan, and always will be, but like I saw someone say below (and I think I said also in my message to you a year ago), Alex Lifeson did the original album guitar solo. The guys, especially Alex, thought PTree was the shit. And they are. The story is that Alex called Steven Wilson and ASKED / OFFERED Steven Wilson to do a guitar solo when this album (Fear of a Blank Planet, on which is the song Anesthetize) was being recorded in 2006-2007. I love Rush. I love Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Many others. But I saw PTree open for Yes at Constitution Hall in DC in about 2001-2002, and I've never looked back. Still Love, Love, Love all those other groups. But PTree is now my favorite band of all time. BTW, the drummer is Gavin Harrison and is a legend in his own right, and has been named Prog Drummer of the Year many times. He and Neil Peart were good friends, and he deeply liked and respected Gavin.

Thank you man! I really really love your reactions and love your channel. Check out my 2nd message to you (it’s actually above this one) about suggested albums to focus on to get started if you’re gonna do an PTree discography “deep dive”, and I sincerely hope you do! Because It’s for sure will be listening !!!!!

I had the pleasure of seeing Porcupine Tree in 2011 at the Riviera Theater in Chicago. It’s where they recorded the live album “Octane Twisted “ for the “The Incident “ tour. Steven Wilson is phenomenal at everything he touches! One of my favorite PT songs is “Blackest Eyes”

Excellent band. The drummer was a longtime member of the last several incarnations of King Crimson. I first heard PT about a decade ago. Their discography is worth a deep dive.

About a year ago I had to say it... heresy indeed. PT, as a band and their total output, have surpassed Pink Floyd as THE creative prog group. All the Tilberg sets are compulsory listening. All SW stuff is awesome and worth your time. Some tracks are gobsmakingly depressive tho; soaked in deep personal horror and angst. ESSENTIAL LISTENING

Porcupine Tree is a rabbit hole to get lost in. That's because Steven Wilson is a prolific musical genius who is still writing, producing and performing in real time. His solo works and collaborations with other artists are outstanding.

First tour in 12 years just happened 🤦‍♂️ I saw them in San Francisco in October. Stoked because I discovered them literally months after their last concert in 2010! Seen Steven Wilson 5 times between then and now…all awesome concerts. Quite a rabbit hole here…just keeps getting better 😊

BTW, you mentioned at the end of your video that you might do a a discography deep dive. You should. BUT - if I may - here's some suggestions. Steven Wilson is the founder of the band and leads it musical directlon. Point being: he was very into ambient music 1988-1995. Signify in 1996 started to move from ambient to more "prog rock". If you were to ask me, I would personally say, start with the following albums: In Absentia (2002); Deadwing (phenomenal - 2005); Fear of a Blank Planet - 2007 - on which is the song Anesthetize). They put another "ecclectic" album out in 2010 called "The Incident" and then promptly took a 12 year hiatus until THIS YEAR - when they released their first album since 2010. Their 2022 album is called "Closure / Continuation" and was recently released to international acclaim, and sold out concerts in America, South America, and Europe (they just finished the tour. It was Sept - Nov.11). But you should also listen to Steven Wilson's solo stuff that he put out during PTree's 12 year hiatus. There are two Prog Classic albums: Hand. Cannot. Erase. and The Raven That Refused to Sing, both phenomenal, as well as To The Bone - 2017. (He put out a largely keyboard / electronica album called The Future Bites in 2021, which was not my favorite, but which did have a handful of songs I really liked). And he just announced a brand new solo album in Spring 2023 that apparently will be called The Harmony Codex, which is supposed to be very PTree-like. He also announced recently that Porcupine Tree will appear at a series of one-off concerts next summer 2023, so far mostly in Germany, but other apparently to be announced. Lastly, there are some other older Porcupine Tree albums between 1996 and 2002 you should ultimately check out, among them Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun. Hope all of this helps and Happy Listening!! Let us join in when you do!!! Love your reactions!!!

There are only four types of people in this world ……..those who like ‘Anesthetise and Love ‘Arriving Somewhere but not here’, Those who love ‘Anesthetise’ and like ‘Arriving somewhere..’, those who love them both and the saddest group of all, those that haven’t heard either of them and inhabit an un-enlightened musical world. For another amazing track other than the afore mentioned ‘Arriving somewhere….’ try the title track from the album that ‘Anesthetise’ is on. ‘Fear of a blank planet’ it was written back in 2007 but is still a great illustration/commentary on too many of the youth of today. The music is dope but the lyrics and delivery are brilliant.

Do more from them... Arriving somewhere but not hear Trains Sound of the muzak And we can keep on and on ... They are all great musicians... Steven Wilson is a great producer, song writer and instrumentist. Very underground, only now he/they are being know with né new modern prog scene ... U can also explore the Steven Wilson solo projects and also all the other members projects and it will take u to many many great musicianship being born around this chaotic modernity 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Most PT songs are actually better live. Steven has a few videos that are pure art - video and sound - The Raven That Refused to Sing, Routine and Drive Home for example. Stevens side band has some absolutely fabulous live songs like Luminal, The Watch Maker and Harmony Koran. You would absolutely love Luminal based on your background.
