Here is a #22 Porkert meat grinder with the addition of a 3/4 hp 3 phase motor being tested. Future videos will show the machine work required to make this operate and the completion of the base and stand.
RPM is 153 and is driven by a 5:1 Boston gear reducer. First reduction is about 2:1, total is 10:1 from the 1740 rpm 240 volt motor. I reduced the diameter of the shaft on the auger to.750 inches and removed the taper. The bearing surface in the grinder body is a pressed in nylon or HDPE bushing. I also reduced the length of the auger by about .130" so that I could add a needle thrust bearing and thrust washer, rather than put pressure against the nylon bearing. I drilled a .3125" hole through the bushing and shaft for a removable pin. The machining was done on a Atlas lathe and the plate pin on the auger was chucked in a 3 jaw, and the handle bolt took a ball center. Runout was nil. A Lovejoy type coupler would be best, but I had these components in stock. The gear reducer has nuts under and over the base mounting points, so that it can be adjusted for alignment to the auger shaft. The unit will take meat as fast as it can be fed, and a hopper or feed dish will be mounted.
