I used to drive bmw cars including the M3, switched brands and changed to Porsche about 8 years ago and although BMW are very nice reliable well priced (relatively speaking) cars, they just can not beat a Porsche. The build quality on Porsche is better and the handling/precision is on another planet compared to BMW. In the end, BMW builds day to day 2 and 4 door saloon cars that they tune to become a sporty car, the Porsche is build as a sportscar right from the get go. They are a different type of car. If you like a sporty 2 or 4 door car that also has space for a few kids, luggage etc, buy the Beemer, if you want a sports car, buy the Porsche.

Not exactly a fair comparison with ceramic brakes on the Cayman and BMW's M2 Competition which is a more track focused car. A bit of a flawed comparison judging by the comments. A pity Porsche dropped the flat six, no flat 4 will ever sound as good and is reminiscent of the very first Porsche cars which were adapted from the VW Beetle. No thanks.
@nick_kilgore Жыл бұрын
I agree about the engines, it’s a shame but the tuning potential of the 4cylinder definitely outweighs the 6cyl’s. That being said the carbon ceramics really don’t matter that much here, they’re more or less just better at resisting heat over long periods. That being said I doubt the steel brakes car would do any worse on one hot lap, it’s actually possible it would do better because the carbon ceramics don’t work as well until they’re hot.
@swansmeister Жыл бұрын
@@Slaktrax Sound is subjective, indeed most will say the flat six sounds better but some will say the 4 banger sounds better due to it subaru'esk sound. That being said the gts 2.5 is better in every other aspect, a tad lighter, way more torque down low, also the faster car because it's faster than on paper and the tuning potential is way bigger than the flat six, a remap and you'll be already having 400 to 410hp, add an exhaust and you'll be passing the gt4 and than we're not even talking about the torque. I am looking out for a gts even tho I have gt4 money, it's just a better track tool imo, put some trick suspension on their like a v4 clubsport and better brake pads and dot 4 brakefluid and you'll murk any gt4 on track. Also the m3 is too heavy no matter which brakes the cayman has it will always be faster than a heavier front engined car.
@Slaktrax Жыл бұрын
@@swansmeister The comparison is with an M2. Flat opposed engines always lack torque compared to inline engines. Sound is subjective I agree but this is a comments section about individual opinion. Dot 4 has a lower dry boiling point than Dot 5.1 with Super Dot 4 having the highest B.P.

Steering relays zero info about available grip, same with the brakes, which have quite inconsistent pedal release when used very hard. The engine has lag and very little reason in terms of thrust or exciting sound to reward you for exploring above 6k rpm. It's a tremendously easy car to slide around at 11/10ths. But it lacks the tools and precision needed for you to know you're right at at 10/10ths consistently. And it doesn't feel special on the street at 2-3/10ths like every great drivers car I've owned before it has. @stefanfreestylez5 жыл бұрын
@Darren Boston tbh ya the comp is aloooott better and its not just because its a fuck ton faster in the straights. Its the whole feel of the car. Big biggg difference between n55 and s55. And to anyone that says you dont need that power on tight mountain pass....ya you do lol. Took a gt3 on a road called la honda near my friends house in california and even that was lacking a bit of power on that road. You def can push both the m2 on those types of roads and will discover that ya m2 comp is worth the extra no doubt. Both are very twitchy on track btw just like m4. So its not like theyre super balanced cars anyways. M2 comp is def the way to go if youre buying an m2. ^not knocking the 991 gt3 btw because im 100% convinced to buy one in march. ;) amazing car but ya just an example of you could always have a bittt more power on tap.

@Elusive123 жыл бұрын
I thought ceramic brakes don’t make you stop quicker but rather just resist fade better, which wouldn’t make a big different on 5/10 laps which this driver probably did for this video.
@DeanoTXR53 Жыл бұрын
having driven both numerous times on track, its not the size of the brakes, it's the weight balance. The Cayman benefits from heavy braking putting extra weight on the nose by having extra grip and which allows it to turn in better, ultimately allowing you to start braking later and trail brake much deeper and more efficiently. My M2's front end is already so heavy that you need to brake in the exact opposite way you would a Cayman. Always being wary to not overload the front end while trail braking or else you'll wash quite wide and ruin your exit, which is the only thing the car really does well aside from transition. It's not a particularly fun car on corner entry in stock form, unfortunately

I rarely miss the added seats or trunk space. Seats are better in the Porsche, gas mileage on the highway is the same or slightly better in the Cayman, insurance is about the same. Driving wise, the Cayman is in a whole different league except on bumpy roads - the magnetic ride on the S3 was brilliant. The Audi had more bells and whistles... adaptive cruise and the lot, but again, I don’t miss that stuff when I’m driving the Porsche. PDK is also way better than the S-Tronic DCT in the Audi.
