I'm so ready to buy a GT4 PDK. Unfortunately here in the USA, we won't get any allocations for 6 months to a year. I will use it mostly as a track car and some fun events like cars and coffee. Thanks, great drving.

Glad you liked it 🙏 It's a very interesting question that I have asked myself. In my mind it's not a choice you have to make because you can have it both! Perhaps not at the same time but you can start with one and move on to the other. Either way you won't go wrong :-) The 991.1 GT3 would in my mind need to have the 10 year extended warranty otherwise not interesting for me. The important thing is to make a decision so you as quickly as possible can start to experience either car from the driver seat :-) Good luck !

Thanks Filipe! Very kind of you🙏 There is absolutely a possibility to improve the pace a notch or two but its important for me to do it slowly and not chase the speed at the Nordschleife. I believe that improved pace for me comes when I feel comfortable and curious. Just pushing I think will increase the risk in the wrong way, at least for me. Have a look at Mantheys official 718 GT4 MR video from last year. There is a clear difference :-) /Jonas

Thanks David! You are spot on. 5-10 km/h higher entry speed in the fast sweeping corners like Hatzenbachbogen, Flugplatz and so on is what it takes to improve pace. We take it a step at a time :-)

Thanks! This is at least my angel on the 718 GT4 PDK at the Nordschleife. The car is now back in Sweden and it's still my conclusion that the GT4 represent a great "bang for the buck" compared to the GT3´s for any amateur that like to improve their driving and pace. Needless to say, if you have a plan to do a 7.00 BTG lap you would need at GT3 version but for anything down to 7.20 or just below, the GT4 is a great choice!

Interesting Video! What is now your suspension set up? You have a JRZ suspension? Which one? I also have a JRZ suspension on my M2 (since this summer) and it’s awesome. Why did you take the JRZ suspension and not the KW (Manthey) suspension?

Impressive lap and fearless driving. Were you on regular Cup 2s? Also can you share a little about your front rear damper settings?
@TrulyDriven
@TrulyDriven 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Don, I am running the Trofeo R tires. I think the Cup 2 is a nice tire but I believe that the Trofeo R gives you a more direct communication. I have been driving Trofeo R on my 964 for many years. I simply like them :-) Also the Cup 2´s seems to need to be warmed-up properly to avoid any excessive wear. The damper settings is per the recommendation from the JRZ factory for this GT4 specifically for the Nordschleife. / Jonas

VERY enjoyable and informative. Liked the lap and overall drive. Even Before the under steer nature of the GT4 balance, I was most surprised and disappointed in the lack of subtle feedback through the steering of the car. Placement predictability is not the primary issue here (for me) but there is not much tactile “rapport” available. My long winded question (sorry for that, but I’m try my best to be clear)….. I would like to know if you have experienced any changes (improvements) since your updates to the suspension? Here, in western Canada, my dealer is suggesting that a perhaps similar set of upgrades to the geometry, should make a noticeable difference? Your input would be very much appreciated! Thank you for your video and regards, G.

Hi, thanks for your kind remarks 🙏 As mentioned below in the other comments, a more track oriented setup would definitely improve the respons and driver engagement as the car will feel more precise. A next step is of course to further improve things by upgrading the hardware like suspension etc. But as always dopning modifications in steps is always wise 👍
@gabrielarch5242
@gabrielarch5242 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. I’m planning for a stage 2 rss suspension kit upgrade (most available this part of the world and familiar to my shop) in order to bring geometry values into proper spec. I’m told that once done I will experience not only better response and overall handling but also……more steering feedback! That is what I’m most after and something I’m missing in this car. Have you experienced better feedback at the wheel? I’m thinking BMW 2002 tii ….. you could close your eyes and read the road through the wheel. Perhaps I’m wanting too much?

Hi, standard GoPro 8 Black with RAM mounts mounted on the rollbar. I think the slight movement is a GoPro feature as the camera is mounted solid without movement.

I definitely understand the need for the rear-toe links and a proper alignment, but what did you feel the stock PASM suspension was missing compared to the JRZ suspension?
@TrulyDriven
@TrulyDriven 3 жыл бұрын
I would say that the stock suspension does a great job but if you like to get to the next level of driver engagement the JRZ suspension is at a different level. Its firmer but the biggest advantage is that it offer a new level of grip which feels very predictable and reassuring compared to the stock suspension. It is more refined with more precision and connects you as driver in a different way making you feel much more confident to explore the level of grip, especially in the highspeed sections by offering a very solid rear end grip.

@@TrulyDriven I just got my 2022 PDK GT4 a few weeks ago now and with it broken in, I am pushing it more. Right away I can see the deficiencies in the stock suspension. I already did an alignment and rear toe links and set the aero in their most aggressive settings, but I am not happy with the rebound damping. The compression seems too much as you take a hard initial hit, but then the rear can't control the rebound well enough and the chassis gets unsettled and if you are in a corner during the upset, you also get a lateral movement as well. Not very confident inspiring at all. The chassis gets upset even at a modest pace on bumpy roads. I just ordered the MCS 2-way remote dampers, I am hoping this will fix the issue because I love everything about the car. I am a little confused by all the praise the stock suspension gets in KZbin & journalist reviews. It is just OK at best.

@@TRZ0612 Congrats! The JRZ suspension I added to my GT4 really transformed the driving experience, the communication and also the confidence for the car. I have the the JRZ Pro 3-way damper with the additional D50 shaft. Don't now all the tech stuff in detail but it is really a 4-way damper with four dials to set for each corner. Once I got the settings right from the JRZ factory, it has work really well! I am sure you will have a similar experience with your MCS setup. Looking forward to some more feedback! / Jonas

@@TrulyDriven So great to hear. I don't think I need to go 3-ways, as my car is not a track car, just a weekend mountain /canyon carver. I just want it to be very controlled and confident inspiring to push hard on less than perfect pavement, while not punishing you. I have heard amazing things about MCS and they seem to offer both a good ride and a much better controlled chassis. As I understand it the owner of Moton, also is involved in both MCS and JRZ, so the engineering knowledge should transfer over to all 3 brands. I am excited to get it installed (just ordered it on Friday) as I am not very happy with the stock suspension and it ruins what is otherwise an amazingly fun car in every other way.

@TrulyDriven

I think that like on all Porsche GT models a full track focused setup makes an obvious difference with noticeable better turn in etc compared to the factory settings. A Manthey wheel alignment is a great choice for the Nürburgring. Call them well in advance of your Nürburgring visit and book a time to have it done. Christian Eick is one of the guys to talk to 👍

Snyggt kört, hur är däckslitaget på svenska banor med den nya setupen? Dvs hur många mil bana eller trackdays klarar du med cup2or?
@TrulyDriven
@TrulyDriven 3 жыл бұрын
I have only driven the car with the new setup for a shake down at Ljungbyhed before going to the Nordschleife. So its difficult to say about the tyre ware. The car was delivered with Cup 2´s which I have have not been driving on previously. My classic 911 trackday cars all run on Trofeo R which is a tyre that offers a different level of control and also are less sensitive to heat building up and easier to manage from a tyre pressure point of view. My GT4 is now on Trofeo R.
@greyhobbit
@greyhobbit 3 жыл бұрын
Any reason not to choose the Manthey suspension? Have just done a few days at the ring and can see the lack of camber on the front being a problem with the tyre wear. Wondered if you chose JZM over Manthey for a reason?
@TrulyDriven
@TrulyDriven 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, The story is that I had a ride on the Nordschleife with a friend in his 718 GT4 end of last season. His car had this version of the JRZ suspension and the way that the car handled was very impressive. I decided then to "copy" his setup for my 718 GT4 that arrived this spring. I am sure the MR kit for the GT4 also is a great option / Jonas

@@TrulyDriven thanks Jonas. Hope you have a great time driving the car. Just back from a trip after running in the car and the quickest lap was 7.32, no traffic. The front tyre wear definitely shows more camber is needed. The car was a bit “floaty” in a couple of high speed areas so as considering the MR kit. Thanks for your response, safe driving

Thanks Neil, was at NBR last weekend. Rainy Sunday but great TF on Monday, and especially Tuesday evening. So second visit and a few improvement here and there :-) Impressed by a 7.32 lap. You need to post it! I think an upgrade suspension of course in the end can add some speed but most importantly, in my opinion, is a car that communicates much more direct and precise which promotes the driving experience / J

Thank you for your feedback , I will get mine stock in few months , same like you .. pdk … first time that I see a 718 gt4 pdk with an honorable laptime on this track. I’ve seen that it was even not a clear laptime, what do tou think avout the improvement on your expected laptime ? And I like the switch to the tyres pressure when you think that you do not have enough grip :-) …. Also I would maybe ask you but what about the price of this new setup ? Can we do all of this upgrade by Manthey ? … last question would you think that this car could be better than the 981 gy4 and also globally she’s missing a bit of HP ?
@TrulyDriven
@TrulyDriven 3 жыл бұрын
A serious upgraded 718 GT4 is a fast car. Suspension and wheel alignment is the key. I have chosen a JRZ suspension since I know the JRZ team at the factory and know that they are very committed and super knowledgeable. Contact Poul Skarra at JRZ for any further info on what they can offer. Manthey offers various level of support and hardware. They are very good at what they do, especially if you focus on the Nordschleife, contact Christian Eick at Manthey for more info. I have done a combo of JRZ and Manthey expertise. Like someone once said, horsepower is only for the guys that haven't figured out the cornering :-) My take is that power is always relative to how much of the cars capability your can utilize. It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than the opposite. I have done everything from McLaren P1 GTR, Ferrari 488 Challenge to Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS 1973 on track. Your are on a constant journey with your driving skills and you should enjoy every bit of it :-)

It always depend on your preferences. I use my 964 as a daily driver but most would not think the comfort and convince is good enough. I just think it’s fantastic with a lot of character and personality. If you are going to use your GT4 mainly as a daily driver a would think a GTS would be a much better proposition. Especially if you set your GT4 up fir only track use. But then a again it’s down to your preferences. If it does not work you just move on to another car :-)
