Such a well spoken, articulate, insightful and knowledgeable gentleman. I disagree with only one thing here, and it’s a subjective matter so I’m not knocking the driver here, is the C4S vs. the C2S. I’ve ordered the C4S, and it’ll take the stall in my garage of my current 2002 911 Turbo X50, which is AWD. It is phenomenal, and the times you “need” that extra grip, that extra “help” up front, it silently steps up and pulls you through that turn, or on water, or snow, etc. It is, for me, really that extra step in handling all driving situations. But the tester here nailed down the capabilities and technological breakthroughs on this fabulous car. Cheers, mate! :-)

I changed my carbon ceramic brakes to iron for better performance while the brakes are cold. Based on several reviews and my own driving of some of these cars, the braking power is no different from iron brakes, though the experts say the advantage of ceramic brakes is that they do not overheat like iron. That makes the braking distance shorter on the track.Jul 2, 2019

Nice review. On the rear engine Porsche 911, does a person really need the “4”? I mean, you have the weight out over the rear tires, and traction should be plentiful in most conditions. And I don’t think I’d want mine out in snow or sleet, not to keep from hitting someone (I know how to drive), but because someone who can’t drive, could hit me.
@CARmagazineTV5 жыл бұрын
We reckon the S is the one to go for! As you said, the all-wheel drive just isn't necessary with 450hp and the level of traction the 911 delivers.
@ronstopfer23155 жыл бұрын
I don’t “want” to be in snow or sleet, or driving rain, etc. But I have, in my life, experienced many unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances where that extra drive capability up front was dearly appreciated. Kind of like the rear window wiper. Who needs that? No one, except for when the weather and weather conditions declare otherwise.

As an old-school reader of Car magazine, from back in the day, I must say, I quite enjoyed this. It's refreshing to have a car-focused review, rather than some wannabe 'comedian' who's more interested in his own ego than actually being a motoring journalist. Great review of what used to be a great car. The current 911 has way to much technology nonsense going on. It is so complicated now that not even Porsche can fix its own car. The really cool years and best body lines were 1969-1973. I also love the 991. But as time goes on, the 911 mystique enthusiasts worshiped in the early days has been erased in favor of "too much tech".
@miketheman43415 жыл бұрын
Who’s nephew is he? Sorry but there are certain things that come only with age and experience. He can read all he wants about previous gen 911s but he was not old enough to live these cars. I owned the 996/997 and the 991.1. I did not read about them. For example this 4S has already managed a 0 to 60 in 3 seconds flat according other sites. The key to the electric nannies is a function of how much control you have over these features. If you can disable these features entirely or partly then it changes the argument. The electric steering Is much better than the original 991 from 2012. Other reviewers have noted this improvement not this downside. Lastly you cannot understand these cars after driving one for a hour or two. He is too young to have owned previous gen 911 models. I would prefer car advice from someone who shaves twice a month.

Sir, I do not understand how your argument against James is based solely on his age. He can clearly translate to his viewers his concept and experience with this vehicle (you and I can’t as we haven’t driven one yet. But mine will be in my garage post haste as it’s now sitting in Customs in Houston). But James can certainly compare numbers and statistics between this 992, and he’s probably driven the 991 and 991.2, and perhaps the previous 997 and 996. Who’s to speculate on what he has driven, or has owned? I salute James for a job well done. No sour grapes on his age from this 73 year old Porsche owner enthusiast. Cheers, mate!

To describe a car weighing over 1600kg,with electric steering, rear wheel steering, dual clutch transmission, electronic throttle, twin turbos, and other electronic "aids" as a "proper analogue sports car" is ridiculous! He clearly doesn't understand the meaning of analogue 😂 A great car it certainly is, but an analogue sports car it most certainly is NOT! It's a product of marketing forces which are driving new cars into a tech revolution, and further away from analogue driving experiences. For that you have to look back to modern performance classics....Good review. Wrong conclusion.
@ronstopfer23155 жыл бұрын
Audidude James’ point is it is a proper sports car. True enough, it isn’t the 1st generation 901, per se. Evolution, not revolution, is the proper description of these magnificent sports cars.

@@ronstopfer2315 Wha I said was describing this car as a "proper analogue sports car" was ridiculous. If you think it's "analogue" clearly you don't know what that means either. Look it up. Whether it's a "sports car" is debatable - in my view it's a GT. But analogue it most certainly is not!
@ronstopfer23155 жыл бұрын
I did not state it’s a proper analog sports car. I’m saying it’s a proper sports car and these changes over the years are to be expected. Some might complain about a/c, power seats/windows, liquid cooling, PDK, nav, etc. These are all welcome changes to me, and I started off my Porsche ownership with the Generation 1! Was the Gen 1 a proper sports car for that era? Of course, mate! Of course it was! We all have the option right today of buying the sports car, or any car, that we desire. For me, I want to newest, most comfortable, best optioned, best driving and handling car available today. To each his own, right?

Ron Stopfer er.....go to 8:38.....i rest my case....although I acknowledge he actually said "it feels like a proper analogue sports car", the description leaves the impression I inferred.
