What a pleasant surprise! When you started, I thought: "Oh my gosh! They've thrown junior to the wolves..." And after one minute I realised I've been had: You are using irony, to get our attention- and then turn your own introduction upside down. That was very clever! And what followed then, was an intelligent, well-structured review that a lot of older reviewers would be jealous of. Well done! I'm looking forward to your next review. Hope there are many to come...

Such a well spoken, articulate, insightful and knowledgeable gentleman. I disagree with only one thing here, and it’s a subjective matter so I’m not knocking the driver here, is the C4S vs. the C2S. I’ve ordered the C4S, and it’ll take the stall in my garage of my current 2002 911 Turbo X50, which is AWD. It is phenomenal, and the times you “need” that extra grip, that extra “help” up front, it silently steps up and pulls you through that turn, or on water, or snow, etc. It is, for me, really that extra step in handling all driving situations. But the tester here nailed down the capabilities and technological breakthroughs on this fabulous car. Cheers, mate! :-)

I changed my carbon ceramic brakes to iron for better performance while the brakes are cold. Based on several reviews and my own driving of some of these cars, the braking power is no different from iron brakes, though the experts say the advantage of ceramic brakes is that they do not overheat like iron. That makes the braking distance shorter on the track.Jul 2, 2019

Nice review. On the rear engine Porsche 911, does a person really need the “4”? I mean, you have the weight out over the rear tires, and traction should be plentiful in most conditions. And I don’t think I’d want mine out in snow or sleet, not to keep from hitting someone (I know how to drive), but because someone who can’t drive, could hit me.
@CARmagazineTV
@CARmagazineTV 5 жыл бұрын
We reckon the S is the one to go for! As you said, the all-wheel drive just isn't necessary with 450hp and the level of traction the 911 delivers.
@ronstopfer2315
@ronstopfer2315 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t “want” to be in snow or sleet, or driving rain, etc. But I have, in my life, experienced many unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances where that extra drive capability up front was dearly appreciated. Kind of like the rear window wiper. Who needs that? No one, except for when the weather and weather conditions declare otherwise.

As an old-school reader of Car magazine, from back in the day, I must say, I quite enjoyed this. It's refreshing to have a car-focused review, rather than some wannabe 'comedian' who's more interested in his own ego than actually being a motoring journalist. Keep it up, and I know it's three years old now, but do not go down the Woke rabbit hole in future videos. A journalist's credentials are more important than skin colour or sexuality.

Great review of what used to be a great car. The current 911 has way to much technology nonsense going on. It is so complicated now that not even Porsche can fix its own car. Porsche had to buy back not, one but two 911's from Nick Murray because not even Porsche could fix a Porsche. The 996 is looking better each day.

Nice pro review. I've never understood the trend for coloured seat belts in modern sports and super cars. I dot think it works. I'll go as far as saying it looks naff. I remember when this trend began and, if I'm not mistaken, it was with the MG Metro Turbo, back in the day. Enough said. If I was buying one of these I'd spec it in black, or get a box of black marker pens....

So what is the character of the 4S over the 2S? Deader steering and that’s all? I just can’t see someone in their right mind spending 120k on any Carrera. Look at what else is available for that money. I’d like to see Porsche release an analogue car - perhaps still with turbo to meet regs- but with a proper gearbox, no horrible digital gauges, direct suspension etc.

Who’s nephew is he? Sorry but there are certain things that come only with age and experience. He can read all he wants about previous gen 911s but he was not old enough to live these cars. I owned the 996/997 and the 991.1. I did not read about them. For example this 4S has already managed a 0 to 60 in 3 seconds flat according other sites. The key to the electric nannies is a function of how much control you have over these features. If you can disable these features entirely or partly then it changes the argument. The electric steering Is much better than the original 991 from 2012. Other reviewers have noted this improvement not this downside. Lastly you cannot understand these cars after driving one for a hour or two. He is too young to have owned previous gen 911 models. I would prefer car advice from someone who shaves twice a month.

Sir, I do not understand how your argument against James is based solely on his age. He can clearly translate to his viewers his concept and experience with this vehicle (you and I can’t as we haven’t driven one yet. But mine will be in my garage post haste as it’s now sitting in Customs in Houston). But James can certainly compare numbers and statistics between this 992, and he’s probably driven the 991 and 991.2, and perhaps the previous 997 and 996. Who’s to speculate on what he has driven, or has owned? I salute James for a job well done. No sour grapes on his age from this 73 year old Porsche owner enthusiast. Cheers, mate!

To describe a car weighing over 1600kg,with electric steering, rear wheel steering, dual clutch transmission, electronic throttle, twin turbos, and other electronic "aids" as a "proper analogue sports car" is ridiculous! He clearly doesn't understand the meaning of analogue 😂 A great car it certainly is, but an analogue sports car it most certainly is NOT! It's a product of marketing forces which are driving new cars into a tech revolution, and further away from analogue driving experiences. For that you have to look back to modern performance classics....Good review. Wrong conclusion.
@ronstopfer2315
@ronstopfer2315 5 жыл бұрын
Audidude James’ point is it is a proper sports car. True enough, it isn’t the 1st generation 901, per se. Evolution, not revolution, is the proper description of these magnificent sports cars.
@Audidude

@@ronstopfer2315 Wha I said was describing this car as a "proper analogue sports car" was ridiculous. If you think it's "analogue" clearly you don't know what that means either. Look it up. Whether it's a "sports car" is debatable - in my view it's a GT. But analogue it most certainly is not!
@ronstopfer2315
@ronstopfer2315 5 жыл бұрын
I did not state it’s a proper analog sports car. I’m saying it’s a proper sports car and these changes over the years are to be expected. Some might complain about a/c, power seats/windows, liquid cooling, PDK, nav, etc. These are all welcome changes to me, and I started off my Porsche ownership with the Generation 1! Was the Gen 1 a proper sports car for that era? Of course, mate! Of course it was! We all have the option right today of buying the sports car, or any car, that we desire. For me, I want to newest, most comfortable, best optioned, best driving and handling car available today. To each his own, right?
@Audidude
@Audidude 5 жыл бұрын
Ron Stopfer er.....go to 8:38.....i rest my case....although I acknowledge he actually said "it feels like a proper analogue sports car", the description leaves the impression I inferred. I am in no doubt it's a brilliant achievement, and awesome car, but it's a heavy modern digital offering lacking the raw analogue feel of the 997, and all those before.

That shit aint a dime worth more than $45k if you can get now a mid-engine Corvette supercar for under 60k. The 911 looks inferior to the Corvette in every way. I see the Porsche 911 turbo selling for 55k fully loaded any day now if they dont wanna go bankrupt😆

Getting closer to a SUV porky 2 ton weight loaded with useless rubbish for a sports car. It transpires Porsche is not a sports car company any more and besides McLaren has taken its place. An excellent example of More is Less. An icon taken on a wrong path. A shame

100% disagree, sir. Porsche continues to evolve. Those who don’t like the larger size (granted, I hope they don’t get any larger), can option for the smaller previous 7 generations, or if someone wants all the bells, whistles, handling, comfort, luxury, power, etc., then the excellent Cayman and Boxster might be your cup of tea. :-) Cheers, mate.

Man these 992s are ugly! Make the 991 look good. 997 last of the real 911s.

RUSSELL DEAKIN the numbers are not “subjective”. This 992 beats it forebearers in every measurable way possible. I have no idea where you came up with that conclusion.

Ron Stopfer No Ron....this driver implies it’s the best car ever. I’m sure it’s better than it’s replicated forebears mind!

FWIW, he’s not the first person write that on this 992 car. Mine is in country (Houston, TX) for the next week , then it goes to my dealer in KC for prep and official release date from Porsche. You know, everyone has their own cup of tea, and many have said ‘this car or that’ as being the best car ever. You never know, RUSS. You never know! That’s his, and others’ opinion, and it well be mine.

That is, in my opinion, unwarranted and without cause. Although I’m pushing 74 now, I respect this gentleman for his good work. Cheers, sir.
