Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023. In September 2023, the brand's most notorious 911 sports car turns 60. There have been successful 911 race cars in the past 50 years, and the 24-hour Le Mans winner Porsche 911 GT1-98 (1998) is no exception. The last 911 to deliver an outright victory in the French race. Just 25 years later, the 911 GT1-98 is one of the most beautiful race cars with a fantastic story and still looks like a reasonably modern sports car.

Nice video! I like the latter of how the 911 GT1-98 came to be. First the grandfather of GT1, the 964 Turbo S-LM, 993 GT2 EVO, (993) 911 GT1, (996) GT1 EVO and finally the 911 GT1-98, also called the 911 GT1 EVO 2.

Wdym "The GT1-98 didn't really dominate?" That's like saying the '99 V12 LMR didn't really dominate just because the Toyota GT-One was a "faster car" and that Toyota would have won Le Mans a lap ahead of BMW when disaster struck the GT-One during the last hour in the race.

The GT1-98 was the third-fastest car at Le Mans, outlasting the faster cars, and won the race given that Porsche encountered the least incidents.

@@christheradar mm, idk. to me the word "domination" has the context that whatever victory is being contested wasn't at all close. The ToyotaGT1 almost won, no? Verstappen is dominating. Hamilton dominated in the previous years. But I wouldn't say Hamilton dominated during his first championship. Anywho, love your videos! Thanks for the reply :D
