When he said blown engine, that means any 986, 996, 987, and 997 with a for sale listing that includes "runs but making a tapping sound" or "Coolant leaking into oil. Needs headgasket". Both of those issues means the engine is blown. The tapping sound is bore scoring and the Coolant mixing is a cracked cylinder sleeve. Both very common issues now. Bore scoring is being found more and more into the newer Porsches, too.

😎sick !!!!! Nice update!! I like the updated manifold, the top mount wastegate would make exhaust routing straighter, the 996 also has a rubber coolant hose where your filter is close to the metal pipe, changing the hose could possibly give more room for a filter and shroud, that intake plenum is beautiful as well !!! The issue with the 996 is that there's many different configurations, with the main limiting factor being drive-by-wire vs. cable throttle. That being said, the DBW (later year) 996's wouldn't be too hard to support with where were out now but it's up to Nick.

A 3.6 is a $15,000-$25000 engine a GT3 is more like $40,000. You can buy this great chasis on the cheap amd swap it for way less if you got the skill. Now the ECU is the ticket here. Mechanical is easy, CANBUS is the boogie man under the mechanics bed😂😂😂
@williamrori1274 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the trick there is to get a senior controls engineer (me) to do all the CANbus stuff. It's dumb easy (especially compared to newer vehicles that have CRC's, Flex-ray, CAN FD etc.), but you have to know enough to be dangerous. I can personally guarantee that *everything* will work exactly like OEM when we're done with it.

You can get a 4.2+L stroker from Vision for about $25k, dunno what idiot is paying $25k for a factory 3.6L. Just call Vision and get a bulletproof stroker that works on pump gas and passes smog all states.
@williamrori1274 Жыл бұрын
@@joeracer302Not sure who would pay literally an equal amount of money that the car is worth for a fundamentally flawed engine. Not only that, but you are wrong about the pricing. @@LtSeasonbroff Not really the 3.8 litre is 440lbs, a K20 is about 400 and k24 is 415lbs, depending on what you need to add subframe wise to hold it in you would be back at same weight

@@weegaz22 bro I turbo Kswapped my 996 C2 cab and have weighed my car so I know what I’m talking about. You are regurgitating the same weights everyone else does, quoted off the internet form an 10+ year old article. The Honda weights you are quoting is including drivetrain and axles, reread the article. My fully dressed k24z with Honda trans and all accessories weighed 470lbs before the swap. M96 is 450lbs for just the motor. My car post swap weighs 2740lbs. And the powerband is a lot broader than it was with the m96. Had to rev the m96 all the way out to make any power.

Yeah the problem is not all 996's are drive by wire. Only the 1999+ C4 and 2000+ C2 are DBW. So we'd have to make a separate electronics package for an extremely small amount of cars, which I'm not sure is realistic at this point.
@pahanorlando Жыл бұрын
@@williamrori1274can you expand a bit on that? What models from 99 to 04 are acceptable for it? All wheel drive 996 will require same parts as rear wheel drive? So I know what to look for on the market. Thanks 😊

@@pahanorlando I'll have to let Nick comment more about 996 support from the hardware side. What I can say, is that if you get a 2000+ C2/C4/S it will be DBW so a PNP electronics package is a future possibility.

Doesn't really seem like an "upgrade" IMO, K series is a great engine, but you're starting with an already high performance car and kinda going sideways/backwards in terms of cubic capacity/power/engine(again, IMO), I'm assuming its getting a stupidly big turbo put on it to bring the power into something more inline with what the car is, that ways its not a downgrade, but the thing about big turbo's and small CC engine is the powerband is so narrow its difficult to use in a track situation because your going to want to steer the car with the throttle at a point and its going to be really difficult when the engines going from 400 to 600bhp in less than 750rpm.
@David-nb2bc2 ай бұрын
I agreed. Why would you want to put in a smaller engine with a big turbo and now you have narrow powerband and not as a flat torque curve? I just don't understand.
@weegaz222 ай бұрын
@@David-nb2bc yep, if it were me, I think I'd go for a de-stroked LS using a 4.8 crank in an LS3 block, bang a ARP rod & stud kit on it, run a little higher compression and a nicer cam and you have a reliable nat asp 600bhp car that'll rev as high as that K swap all day long with a huge flat torque curve that will have the throttle response you want to help steer the car via the throttle on a track. It would cost ME personally way more to do here in the UK as LS engines aren't 10 a penny unlike K series, but I also wouldn't see it as a backward step unlike a K
