Having owned a 964 RS for 14 years, I am now the proud owner of a 997 GT3 RS 3.8 of the exact same colour . It is undeniably a huge step. My blue 964 was rock solid and fabulous but as I got older, I found it tiring to drive on long distance. By contrast, the 997 GT3 RS is an absolute marvel. The engine never seems to run out of revs and you can drive it all day long without getting tired. Both RS are quite similar in their driver’s commitment. I have tried a 991 GT3 4.0 recently but did not manage to enjoy it as much. This car does not involve you as much as a 964 or 997. It is far from bland and is much more performing but just too easy to drive for me. Would I sell my 997 GT3 RS now ? I will not be ready to do so for a long, long time.

MunroM84 I think I heard it cost around 250k pounds. I’m not too sure because I live in America and you truly do not see any type r here. I recommend watching the drivetribe nsx vs nsx type r video. Cheers
@jamesrichards56014 жыл бұрын
@MunroM84 NA2 NSX-R will set you back roughly 30,000,000 yen (£185,000) minimum. Importing in the UK adds 20% buyout price so include £37,000 on top of the price; this excludes other stuff like registration, MOT etc. I absolutely adore the car, but £200k+ for it is just too much money for me :(

Owning that very car with exactly that color combo i can confirm what he says. Turn-In is stunning, didn't expect that. It's even better than a mid-engined 981 Spyder. Damping is spot on for roads, the car is able to cope with really bad roads and still sits tight and gives you lots of confidence. This is it this is RS. 991 doesn't even come close with it's size, rear axle steering and overall artificial touch.

Yup, and the 992 doesn't look promising at all, at least the 991 had a bit of analogue-ness left in it

Porsche democratized the new GT3’s - anyone can be quick in them. The 997.2 RS is perfection. It has the right level of speed, and requires a high level of involvement and focus to extract the most out of it, and as such, the reward level is unsurpassed. 997.2 RS is the zenith for Porsche in so many ways.

Great review. For all those watching this, even a simple 997 C2 with a Dansk back box and sport cats will give you 8/10 of the pleasure at way way less than 8/10 of the money. The 997 is one of the purest (and prettiest) sports cars ever made. Driving perfection. And they don't break that often either (especially the 3.6 derivative that has a lot less of the bore scoring issues that the 3.8 faced).
@chawenhalo00895 жыл бұрын
Nice to see PH back on form on KZbin. A friend lent me a 3.8 GT3 with the Clubsport and carbon pack for 3 days yrs ago, it was my first 911 experience and its stands as one of my all time favourites. The interesting thing was that despite shoddy rear tires and me being 10 yrs less experienced driver (I still have no talent) after the initial intimidation and shot ass boring wedding and a bitchy GF moaning about the car, it gave me the confidence to push it by day 3. It highlighted what was missing from my Z4M coupe. Every Porsche I've driven since bar a 964 I've thought was a complete veal of a GT car, not a sports car. Can't say I agree with Dan about the engine though. To me it felt pretty torquey lower down with a great appetite for revs. Wasn't disappointed with the S54 when I got back in it either surprisingly.

Absolutely brilliant video. Love these videos from the 'Rise & Drive' series. Great film production, and a right amount of tasteful music, not to mention the attention of detail Dan went into to describe how this 997 Gen II GT3 RS will be a timeless classic. Nice to hear his story of his car journalism career too. I'm 24 and yet to feel like i've made it in the music industry i'm in so this is a boost of encouragement. The 4.0 engines in the 991 generation GT3s/911Rs are incredible in their own way, and so is this Metzger engine too in its own way.

Great review. Still to this day I think its the greatest GT3RS and the best drivers car. It mixes mechanical with modern technology without losing engagement. The sound of the engine is only surpassed by the Carrera GT IMHO. It still is challenging to drive fast unlike the modern cars and it can still scare you like only an older Porsche 911 can (when the tyres are not warm and you press to early) grip is staggering.. I sometimes feel its like driving a big go cart...
