Great video, only recently discovered your channel. Love the insights into these cars. This video in particular was great. Because we all hear or read about whole awesome the Porsche GT cars are, but to have some real honest insightful back to back comparisons on these three was really enlightening. Something to remember is there isn't really a bad GT Porsche, they're just different levels of awesome. But of these three, if you could take only one home? Based on what you describe it would have to be the 997 GT3.

You're right. I'd take the 997 GT3 because it's the best driver's car, and have a separate daily driver.

EDIT: Great Video! That 991 will squeak with age. Hard to compare the handling on both 997's you have without knowing if they were modified or their condition. For clarity both the GT2 and GT3 have 3.6L engines. The 997.2 GT3 and RS went to 3.8L but the 997 GT2 was only 3.6L, and no changes were made to the model until the very limited very wild GT2 RS. The 997.1 and 997.2 GT3 was made with a mixture of two chassis. The front was from a Carrera 4, and the rear from a Carrera, whereas the RS model was all Carrera 4. The 997.2 GT3 had massive changes. The engine went from 3.6 to 3.8L as important is variable valve timing for the exhaust. Great torque. The chassis is a huge step up. New aero for increased downforce. A revised suspension makes the most of this additional force pressing the tires into the pavement. Front spring rates are stiffer by 12 percent, and new front and rear anti-roll bars. The PASM adjustable shock absorbers have been completely recalibrated, and the suspension pickup points have changed, thanks to new hubs. New stability control and traction control that can both be defeated if you want no nannies. This thing about the GT2 Widow Maker has to do with the 996 and torque appearing suddenly with only two wheels with driver aids turned off but also with deceleration. All cars have had value run up, and 99% of them will go back down. 997 GT cars, like the NSX, are unique, rare, and are the pinnacle of driver involvement and are going nowhere but up. People are selling their 991s to go back to 997s. I love my GT3

@@Zygrene Not sure anyone already answered your question in the video, but the GT2 has stiffer springs on the back due to the increased weight of the turbo + intercoolers and the PSC2 have stiffer shoulder than the PS4S. This might explain the difference... Cheers!

997.1 gt3 is so good. The wing is not as dramatic and personally I think it looks just as good, if not better than the 997.2. The last of the Mezger engine's and it screams.

Not only would the tires change the characteristics of GT3 vs GT2 but the suspension (sway bars, ride height, rebound, camber, etc.) settings would cause a different feel very easily.

First time viewer and now a subscriber. I really enjoyed the video comparing the various vehicles. I drive a 997.2 TT 6MT, but have driven the 997.1 GT 3. For me, it was just too harsh of a car to drive daily, with the heavy clutch and steering. I don’t track my cars, and do mostly quick back road weekend driving, so a GT car is not likely for me. That said, the GT3 Touring (991) may be the most interesting car that is both a comfortable daily driver and track able car with the manual transmission. Just wished they were not priced at 40-50k above their list price, but the rule of supply and demand carries the day.
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel! Your 997.2 TT is definitely a better street car than the GT3. GT cars really only come alive on wide open back roads and tracks. But in those environments, they are truly something special.
@markjames81603 жыл бұрын
I also like that you tested the GT3 vs the GT2, which IMO is the GT3 with turbochargers. Porsche has always been on the cutting edge of turbo charger technology and notwithstanding the awe and respect they receive for their naturally aspirated cars, the turbos make these smaller displacement motors come alive. I’ve read that a 991.2 GTS, RWD, with PDK can be made to be a lot faster than a stock GT3 through an engine tune, larger turbo, and some suspension upgrades. Now that would be a sleeper car.
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
@@markjames8160 that's interesting because I've never driven a 991 besides the GT3 and GT3 Touring. I will be reviewing a base 991.1 C2 very soon and curious how "soft" it will feel in comparison. Stay tuned

Great video especially with capturing the exhaust sounds. Fenton can you comment on the size of the cars? I often hear the 991/992 generation feels too big relative to the 996/997?
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
991 definitely feels bigger (wider and longer) than the previous gens but once you're out on an open stretch of road, you don't pay much attention to it. It's still a maneuverable car, especially with 4 wheel steering.
@KT-mi7hk3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like size non issue. A zygrene car talk GT2/3/4 special would rock. Interested in value proposition given spike in GT car prices.

@@KT-mi7hk everything has spiked in value, everything but your dollars lol, so not a lot of “deals” to be found compared to prior prices. Now only “deals” compared to other absurdly inflated prices. Great video, see if you can add a 997.2 and a 991.1 and a 996.2 to do a full generational spectrum GT3 review video! Honestly I would love to have a 991.2 and a 997.2 GT3 in my garage. Everyday fun + something extra special and raw when the occasion calls for it. But if I have to be honest with myself. The niche that a 991.2 GT3 Touring will fill for me will be just as well serve by a 718 GT4 or Spyder. Love the GT3 Touring but not sure if I can justify 100k for that engine.
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
Never thought about it that way. Basically 100k for a motor. But if there's any motor that's worth the price, it's gotta be that glorious 4.0
@samwisee3 жыл бұрын
@@Zygrene I am speaking from my own perspective of someone who have a 997.2 GT3 in the garage. A 991.2 would be awesome but I don’t see myself selling my 997.2 for a something that “does it all”. Basically I would love to have both a “purist” car and a “lifestyle” car in my garage. I am really hoping they’ll actually make a 718 Spyder RS (or the RS Spyder!). I honestly think Porsche should bring the new 992 4.0 motor to the RS line for the 718. Let’s face it, the 992 is huge, this is going to be the last 911 that can still claim to sort of be a sports car before it goes full GT because of the size. The Cayman and Boxsters will be the purists sports car of Porsche’s future.
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
@@samwisee Totally get it. 997 is definitely more of a pure driver's car than the 991.2. A Boxster with the 992 4.0 motor would be completely ridiculous, in the best way possible. I hope you're onto something! Would make a pretty great swan song for Porsche's ICE.
@neilw34003 жыл бұрын
Great review as always ! I know on the older 911’s manual is definitely the way to go but between the 991 GT3 with pdk and the 991.2 GT3 with manual which one did you honestly enjoy more ? Thanks
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
The 991.1 PDK was quicker shifting and more impressive from a technology standpoint, but the 991.2 manual is SO SO good. The flat foot shifting feature reduces the gap in terms of shift times and smoothness, and the shifter feel is one of the best of all time.

Thanks for the great review. Not surprised by the conclusion. Although I’m curious, for a fixed budget, would you get 1 touring, or 1 7gt3 + a fast comfortable daily? My instinct is to go with the latter, just because the rawness is difficult to replicate. Also, it’s interesting that some of my friends who have compared 7gt3 with 6gt3 or aircooled rs cars, feel that 7gt3 is much more refined and can be driven daily. So I guess it’s all relative!
@Zygrene3 жыл бұрын
