When I saw it in the movies Scarface and Looker as a kid, I was hooked and other movies that followed, Risky Business, etc. Also, back then, Porsche had quite the lineup. The 911, 924 and 928.
@shananagans515 жыл бұрын
The 928 has to be one of the greatest automobiles ever made. It never fit the Porsche mold so it never really got the respect it truly deserves on the world stage. I believe if an unknown German company built the exact car, it would have more respect. When it came out it just was not what a Porsche was supposed to be so lots of people discounted it. That is sad but good at the same time because enthusasts can get a world class car for average car prices.
@fleuger99Ай бұрын
@shananagans5 one might say the same thing about the Cayenne when it was launched, not appreciated by Porsche faithful but it was the vehicle that saved the company from bankruptcy. I also think part of the lack of mass adoption was the price, they started at $50K in 1985. To compare, a BMW 635CSI was $40K in 1985.

I delivered newspapers as a kid and was nearly run over by a beautiful teal coloured 928 on a sunny Sunday morning in 1979! It was common for kids to ogle any supercar that passed through our poor neighbourhood only huge engraved ‘PORSCHE’ name on the rear bumper gave it away. I was already a fan of the 911 because of its stunning Le Mans 24H performances. so I knew 4this was a car like no other. This was how my love affair with the 928 began. I the car of my dreams 23 years later, a gorgeous jet black 928 S4. Some years she could be a high maintenance mistress, but for many years a faultless long distance gentleman’s carriage and companion. A 928 really is more than a car as they say in this excellent promotional video. I still check the National car registry to see if she’s still on the road and I’m pleased that in 2022 she still gives its new owners pleasure’s over 30 years since she was born, a testament to Porsches formidable engineering quality ❤️🙏🏽

4m48s? anti corrosion warranty? I have owned a 1989 928GT, it has covered 280,000 KM & has never needed welding,nor does it need any now. Bought in Bristol 2004 & I have just driven around the far north of Scotland averaging 27MPG, (10.4L @100KM). Nothing about these cars is hugely expensive unless you get the franchised dealer to do the clutch. This one was a bit awkward on the single track roads though, & the only "disaster" I have suffered has been a front wheel bearing. Not bad at all!

That soft side trim strip always looks out of place. But I suppose that it is either that thing - or door dings. Seems a shame that the rotor-dial wheels seemed to have been dropped from the option list after the car's premier. Along with the 928, BMW's E31 is also on my bucket list. Beautiful and "tuff" looking at the same time. Not unlike the Messerschmidt 262.

bigjuliedive Uhh, a guy magnet, I am not too sure if there is an equivalency to be honest. Just make sure she appreciates old cars and doesn't not want it just because it's old. That would be a shame.

I have a black 88 s4 and a 79 aqua blue. I love them both. for different kinds of driving. The older is a beast with a 5 speed. The s4 is a different kind of beast. I have taken my children, my wife and myself with BASIC overnight bags all to the bay area from salem Oregon and everyone arrives ready to do something instead of grumpy and tired like they are when we take our Ford Excursion. Not just a mode of transport emblematic of a quality of life with all due regard to the seat design it was quite racy at the moment of presentation and would've had been something one would have had to experienced then and appealed to conservative buyers the 928 was a Grand Tour vehicle with high performance. Interestingly the S2 auto starts in 1st, but in the S4 it starts in second, supposedly to control the additional power to the wheels when taking off. Fits the GT genre rather than the go cart feeling of the 911. Although the auto sucks some of the power I always found it such a pleasure to drive and the transmission was rock solid. On both my 928s have never touched the transmission even after 170Ks on the clock
