Couple of comments, the stop light warning should go out when you press the brake pedal if the bulbs are ok. The oil pressure should peg at 5 when the engine is cold so probably ok. Should only drop at idle once the oil is warm. I know the bodywork is way down the list but once that rear quarter glass is removed there probably a load of rust there judging by what’s on the surface. Keep at it !

Thanks Gary. Useful info on the dials… yes, I assume those rear quarters are going to be a mess…. I’ll show you soon :)

Great work! Thank you for sharing. The interior is another puzzle.

Yeah I’m slowly starting to think about the interior. It definitely was tan coloured and somebody painted it black.. the question is “is it too far gone to return to tan?”

Within reason I wouldn't be too concerned about the oil gauge reading, my 928 always registers 5 bar from a cold start then as engine temp rises it stabilises to a lower reading, can't remember exactly but I've owned my 928S for 31 years and it hasn't been an issue. I feel your pain with the pod reinstatement I hate that job.!

Thanks Rocka, ok thanks. I was going to get my multimeter on it to see what it’s outputting…. But perhaps I’ll just wait until I run it a bit longer and see if it comes down a bit

It’s like grinding a tier 10 tank, over and over….. now who would be stupid enough to do that ?:)

Great work. As others have said brake warning light should be light when first started and will go out once the brake pedal is pressed. Oil pressure at 5 bar is fine when a cold start. When 'fully warm' mine drops to between 2 bar and 3 bar (i.e. when stopped at the traffic lights). Your ammeter is showing a very low voltage so maybe something to look into (i.e. alternator, its belt, connections to the dial or from the alternator etc.) mine tends to hover around midway on the dial. I think the alternator should put out somewhere between 13.5 and 14.5 volts if working OK. Keep up the good work .

Thanks Redkenj, very useful. I’ll look at the alternator shortly as it’s now not outputting anything

More winning! Everything looks correct. Battery volt gauge is reading low @ 11v, should be 12.5v+. Reckon either the battery is low or the alternator regulator is suspect. Oil pressure is correct too for a cold engine. The gauge cluster really looks good. I bet the speedo will be correct when you get a chance to road test.

Thanks John. I would t surprise me if the alternator was shot…. 43years old etc :)

Sometime the volt meter sits lower than actual volts (my S4 does). Easy check by putting multimeter at engine bay jumper post when engine running. Should read 13.2-13.4 volts steady lights on and off. You can then adjust the volt meter on the dash calibrated to the correct volts on the multi meter….but you have to take it out again sorry!

Thanks Peter. Its all coming out when I retrim the dash anyway

Agree with comments regarding brake light warning. It will go out once you’ve started vehicle and you depress brake pedal. This is normal. The oil pressure will peg at max if you have the polarity reversed on the sender…something to check! I understand the tank is 86 litres including 8 litres reserve. I notice you do not have the red warning light at the bottom of your fuel gauge upon start up too (similar to temp gauge but at bottom not top).

Hi Anthony. Oh I didn’t notice the fuel warning light missing…. I was working with the other sender unit, so I’ll check this replacement one - thanks !

As others have said. My oil pressure also stays at 5 until the engine is warm. And the stop light goes out once you hit the brakes for the first time

I’ll test the brake - thanks :)

Congrats on the progress. About the fuel level sender, I'm fairly certain that the seal under the sender is supposed to be pliable, and snug around the sender. Seeing when you had yours out of the tank and the seal fell off, I'd be cautious before filling the tank more than 3/4 full. Regarding the oil pressure, it seems fairly common to peg the needle until the engine warms up, from some of the Rennlist discussion I've seen.

Well spotted with the fuel sender seal. I can’t remember if I said in the video, but I ended up fitting my spare as one of the wires had broken on my original. That one had a soft seal…. But I wasn’t very happy with how it fitted so was going back to double check soon. I’ll grab a new seal to fit at the same time. Thanks :)

Can you do a video on replacing the ignition switch? With or without removing the instrument cluster?

shouldn't the battery be reading 14.5v if the car is running ?... think that's a standard voltage regulator output for an alternator ?
@MrToddgibbs Жыл бұрын
Yes it should. I need to test the alternator, but I suspect it’s actually the gauge that needs calibrating

Thank you thank you thank you My cluster is removed also (and I have no idea how to put it together again) because I need to remove the ignition so I can bring it and have a key made The ignition is still stuck so how is it fastened?
@MrToddgibbs Жыл бұрын
Putting cluster/etc back together isn’t too bad, there are online tutorials if you search (especially on Rennlist). I have ever removed my ignition so can’t tell you (I was also search online for a tutorial)

@@MrToddgibbs I’m in the car today thanks to you and screw the ignition I called a mobile locksmith so it’s now pulled apart for no reason however the mileage counter stopped working so I guess I’m fixing that now 😂
