Yeah, everything is 10x more than you expect. But does make you think laterally about other solutions and fixing at component level..

The cams looks good, the cam gears are good but for the old style belt. The cork gaskets are a pita, consider to buy the blue gaskets from the us suppliers also for the belly pan.

Thanks. I agree on the cork - they just keep compressing - I think that a torque setting is maybe not appropriate - just an old school half-handy nip up would suffice.

A lot of us are curious to know if you will get reasonable compression out of that engine when you put it back together.

So am I, I searched a lot for a consensus on the types of horror my bores have..but it seemed 50:50 about significant effects..I suspect it will be down a fair bit - but given I drove my v8 landrover around for a week with two plug wires crossed maybe I won’t notice. I’ll just convince myself it’s got a 4.5.

My cam towers are leaking, I think it may be an engine out job over winter.

From what I read and have now experienced that’s the best course. Aside from the weight and the length of crane needed it’s pretty easy. And you get the pleasure of just looking at it. It’s a really imposing thing, and so nicely put together (tower bolts apart of course).

I had a tiny leak from the front corner of mine, and after cleaning I smeared some Drei Bond 1209 on the outside. It’s been dry for a year. Not a permanent fix but buys some time for me.

Mine has sadly been languishing since lockdown. I MoTd it recently but its running rough, new fuel pump, lines and vacuum hoses will be fitted shortly, hopefully that'll solve it.
