You did a great job of not scaring the hell out of me. The calm and steady tone that you take is great to learn from. Did you get the list of all the disconnects from the Porsche Carrera manual or did you just approach the process using logic, symmetry, and common sense. I am so impressed with the ease that you displayed removing the engine and transmission along with the disconnect of the drive shaft assembly. Keep up your good work!

I just approached the job methodically and with common sense!

I hope your repair isn't nothing to big. But on the bright side for me, I enjoy your videos and the info you share. So I'll be watching.

Awesome video, very nicely presented. I will be doing this job soon to my turbo for the first time so I'm boning up on information. This was very helpful, I really appreciate it so thank you for posting it. I will be posting a video of this job as well as soon as I gather enough information and nerve to do it :)

now is super common boxster 996 997 scoring in cyl 5 and 6 , mix of bad coating in piston from factory , ingector leaking and oil use in car , who know what else
@Damianium9 жыл бұрын
Apparently this is common on 996/997 models. They get scoring on cylinder 5 and 6 because of how the oil jets are positioned and crappy thermostat position. You may need an engine rebuild unfortunately :(. If you're doing an engine rebuild, make sure you get a lower temperature thermostat. Read this long document by Hartech, explains it all: www.hartech.org/docs/buyers%20guide%20web%20format%20Jan%202012%20part%205.pdf

I've got a similar transmission stand. it's rated at 400lbs. Is yours beefier? I plan on featuring an eBay buy '02 996 Carrera Cab with 101K miles on my channel very soon. I'm pretty sure i'm going to pull the motor to refresh the top end. Doesn't look all that hard to drop the engine either.

two thumbs up sir, please post more on the engine break down and disassembly, maybe clean the engine bay while the engine is out?

I hope it turns out to be lifters for you! I had a very similar noise in my engine which turned out to be scored cylinders in bank 2, confirmed with a bore scope :(

Thinking about buying a 996T low miles ..any tips or hints what to look for mechanically etc.
@vsvenson7 жыл бұрын
Turbo cars have a different engine design and don't have the same problems. Look for a well cared for car with maintenance history, and it will probably serve you well.

Is there any advise on pre starting a 911 that's been sitting for 2 yrs?
@vsvenson6 жыл бұрын
I'd remove the fuel pump fuse so you can crank it for a few minutes to build oil pressure before it starts up.
@koollee5 жыл бұрын
Smart guy u r. I been trying to figure out how to disconnect ignition in order to prime the oil system on mine. Van can you tell me an easy way to locate the fuel pump fuel. Im new to the 996 and all my books are water damaged and pretty glued together. I do have mechanical experience tho

Great Video Van, Did the ticking noise start after the engine warm up? I am going though the same thing with my 996. The ticking noise sound of my car coming from the same area at the rear back passenger side as your car but it only happen after the engine is warm.
@jackielo28987 жыл бұрын
Same, my 98 996 C2 has this ticking noise from position 6, and the noise is only when the engine reached the operational temperature. When at start its always nice and smooth without any noise. I am looking up what are the possible causes before throwing money on the repair. I do suspect sticky lifters because sometime after driving it a bit hard or keeping the rev above 4-5k for a while, the noise could just disappear, until the next day. Many people suggest the noise could be from a scored bore. But a scored bore would have the noise at any moment right and disregard temperature ?

Hello! Did you ever get the engine sorted?

Only buy one that has a new refurbished engine, even then its a high risk and you will only get 50/60 000 and it would need to be refurbished again Porsche made a monster and you bought a monster,
@9jfd12 жыл бұрын
Why do you say that and generalize? I have over 300k bud on my 03 C2 Cab. Dont garage queen it oil change 3000km and keep it busy. I drive through canadian winters, clean the hell out of it every year and just take care of it. No need time freak out on these M96 Engines just stay on top of it. No bore scoring or any engine issues. Its idiots who redline these cars and abandon them that causes failures to occur.

Van, go back to fixing and driving, 944's. Much cheaper, and less of a ticking timing bomb(no pun intended) than a 996 engine. Good luck and hopefully just a noisy lifter.
@ein999997 жыл бұрын
Next time just use marvel mystery oil in your gas tank and you could of probably avoided all of this. Twice amonth or at leat every oil change is good.
