Being an owner of one of these I can confirm this is one hell of a car, absolutely remarkable piece of engineering, both performance and construction wise. Living in North America it won't matter if you buy Base, S, Turbo, GTS or Turbo S really. The speed limits are pretty strict so you won't be able to do 160-250 or more like you could on Autobahn. But since all of the models accelerate with phenomenal power and top speed being the only difference you can buy any model and you'll be happy. And if you ever need to accelerate fast, like on a highway ramp for instance, you will feel the power regardless of which model you're driving. Cheers!

Thanks Nathan. Learned a bunch from your video. Agree with your comments. I’m the third owner of a 2006 Cayenne S. Coolant pipes were done by a previous owner. Mid-drive shaft support bearing failed around 140k. Son & I fixed ourselves with an aftermarket product in about an hour. Recently performed a transmission service (fluid and filter). Regular oil changes. Pulls a 5 x 7 utility trailer with no issues. Pulls other vehicles out of snow banks and ditches, no problem. Scared the crap out of my passengers off-roading up a pretty significant. dirt incline last fall with Conti. CrossContacts (my 2nd set). I do a majority of highway driving so I don’t go through a lot of brake pads or rotors. However, they are among the easiest to replace of any vehicle I’ve ever owned. Will be doing struts, shocks and hatch and glass supports as soon as the weather is a little warmer. Just passed 270,000 miles and it still sings in 8-part harmony. My only problem is my envy for a 2009-2010 Diesel, GTS Manual, or Turbo S; maybe even one of the 600 Transsyberias!

My second Cayenne is a 2005, with only 30k miles. It has seen rain twice, and is detailed inside, outside and underneath. I only use it for grocery or other supply runs, as I absolutely love and cherish it. My first was a 2009 that I used more often, until I found this 05 with 10k miles, a pampered example, one of ten Porsches the seller kept in A/C storage. They are an amazing SUV, and I will likely keep this truck for many years. I have added a lot of carbon Fiber parts, and Fabspeed cat bypass pipes. Otherwise it is stock. Everybody needing a SUV should consider a Cayenne, of whichever vintage they prefer or can afford. I drive 2 911 Turbos, a Coupe and a Cab, but equally enjoy my time in the Cayenne.

Great overview of the 955 /957. One correction to a statement about the Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia: As stated in the video, Porsche commemorated their wins in the Transsyberia Rallye (26 custom built Porsche Cayenne made it to the race) by building a limited edition 'Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia' for 2010. In total Porsche built and sold 600 of those cars worldwide. Only 102 made it to the states and only 39 came in the iconic black-orange combination. Making this car pretty rare, in fact more rare than the Porsche 997.1 GT3 RS (production number: 1,168, 410 sold in the US) of the same year that could be ordered with the same black orange color combination.

I'm a fairly new owner of a '09 GTS (957) with under 90k mi that is my new daily driver. There are some issues, but I love the car - esp. with the air suspension and sport mode. Other things to note : almost everything is Torx bolts (ended up buying a bunch of new sockets to work on this - even the license plate holder is Torx), gas mileage is a sore spot (with great care, I can get 18 mpg - it's usually much worse), and repairs can be expensive (even DIY - parts are expensive compared to my old Hyundai Santa Fe). Generic ODBC II does not help much - it's worth spending the money on a Porsche specific scan tool. While there are great deals available, don't forget they were $50k+ when new (looks like mine was $84k), so it can be expensive to keep them running. Plan accordingly... Thanks for the video - one of the best I have seen for 955/957. I'm looking forward to the others in the series.

You bring up a lot of good points here Johnathon, while many people like the idea of upgrading to one of these cars - they don't always adjust their expectations which could lead to a bad experience. We're very happy to hear that you're loving your new (to you) Cayenne though - they're excellent cars. Luckily, companies like us exist to help you save on parts when the time comes to fix things. beautiful work. Am a longtime admirer of the first generation and despite the considerable maintenance/upkeep, was seriously contemplating a used purchase. However after viewing your fine video, basically learned the Cayenne isn't a fit. Firstly, I don't do turbos. And although I respect the Porsche V8, am looking for better fuel economy. The early model 6 cylinders would be a viable option if they weren't severely underpowered. That said, the 3.6 liter model would've been perfect. Except for the fact, by the time Porsche introduced it, they decided to change the body style :( Ultimately decided to go with a very low miles and meticulously cared for 2009 Lexus RX350 instead. Thank you again, and enjoy the Cayenne. The early models are beautiful

I am seeing some cars having some characteristic grooves on the upper side of the central triangle on the steering wheel and some others without. My question is this. The absence of these grooves is it a sign that the vehicle has been involved in an accident and the airbag was deployed (and when repaired no grooves could be added) or is it just another version for the steering wheel? Thank you in advance and keep up the good work!
