Thanks for posting the video and including the bit on moving the Alternator! I wonder if the techs at Porsche have a special socket-extension for this job.

Thanks for this! My starter just failed so it’s time for this job

I wont be looking forward to that job one day. I replaced the clutch switch and the new one looked the same, but had a new part number on it. After I replaced it and fiddled with the original for a bit I was getting constant good readings, so I kept it for insurance that I'll now never need it; Murphy's Law at work here.

i can sympathize... i just changed the spark plugs in my 2007 987.1.can't recall ever having made so many adapter, multiple extension, socket and universal joint changes in one eight hour interval in my life. and i'm not youngster either!

My 987.1 has been acting funny ever since I installed a new stereo system so I'm going to have to pull that thing out and check that maybe a wire was exposed or something during install. but I'm starting to wonder about my starter anyway because the battery drain even when I have it charged fully up the starter seems to barely crank over and always starts when there's enough juice but it's sluggish. it's not snappy like your sounded right after you installed your new one

I am having the same problem, I’ve checked all fuses and relays, replaced the clutch switch, check all cables for corrosion. I am lost My car only starts after disconnecting and reconnect the negative battery terminal did your car do this ?

Did you ever get this fixed? I did not have that symptom. I wonder if something is rebooting, or if you have a battery right on the edge of full charge. I’ve found that if you drop just 0.1V low, like to 12.4 you can suddenly have symptoms. Maybe if you are having some parasitic draw, you have just enough power during the reboot to crank?
