Thank you... I still get pretty dizzy in certain orientations, like tying my shoes or laying back too far. Can't really drive fast anymore because the g-loads make me dizzy as well. Not sure how long it will take to pass but I appreciate you asking.

Just found you, subscribed. Hope your melon mended nicely and you aren't leaking fluids. Something I will say on the content not as a criticism but hopefully as a helpful idea. I have noticed that YTers who focus on car content really start to shine when they intensely focus on camera angles and audio quality. I think it comes from our conditioning from TV, we associate multiple camera angles and crystal clear audio with quality in some way. As an engineer you will have zero issues with it. Add a fluffy mic on a suction cup to the exhaust area. The camera angles from suction cupped gear really add something. That being said if you end up doing this please remake that Boxster Spyder video with the same enthusiasm for us.

If GMA can roll without a flywheel altogether it gets me thinking interesting thoughts on what is possible with various engines...Cool to see actual testing and driving reactions from a driver rather than endless keyboard warriors. Great! Looks like a proper mod
@DasCayman4 ай бұрын
To be honest, I'm not sure how GMA can transfer the transmission speeds to the engine speeds without a clutch and flywheel, but I know that there isn't a flywheel on the car... And yeah! Happy to document. There weren't too many videos out there on Porsche flywheels so I wanted to make some. I'm sure you've seen my Spyder flywheel videos too... that's a FUN car.

So basically, it does have a flywheel. There is a physical toothed wheel with a friction surface to hold the clutch as you say. It's just as light as physically possible. There is no mass for inertia, its just a clutch carrier. - a cosworth tech

Enjoy your vids a lot. I have an 05 Carrera S Coupe and I've been tempted to make this move. The extra noise and shifting changes don't concern me. My biggest concern is increased engine wear and crankshaft stress. There is sooooo much "out there" about this causing engine failure that I'm hesitant. Are you concerned at all? Did AASCO or Vivid address this concern with you?
@DasCayman4 ай бұрын
I talked to a lot of Porsche race shops… Sharkwerks, TPC, BBI, etc about this issue and they said to not worry. As long as you don’t keep the engine sustained in its natural frequency range (most destructive displacements) then you’re ok. So I just try to not lug the engine and keep the engine in a happy place. It runs smooth. Vivid is just a retailer, but AASCO echoed the same relaxed tune. Is it your daily driver?

So let me get this straight...your sweet little peach smacks the crap out of you , breaking your face, then you throw her the keys to your car to drive you home at which point she manages the clutch like a pro? Yeah...she's a keeper!! So is clutch chatter the only downside to the SMF? What do you think the longevity will be? Any impact on fuel economy? Seems like a solid upgrade if it will last. I'm wondering why Porsche didn't make it standard equipment??? Thanks for your great videos! -Tom.
@DasCayman4 ай бұрын
Last time I hung out with the sweet peach I forgot the safe word!!!
@DasCayman4 ай бұрын
I would say only downside is increased / amplified chatter when you're lugging the engine (which you shouldn't do anyways). As for longevity... as long as you're rev matching and heel toeing, I don't see why this wouldn't last the life of the car. Fuel economy... probably a bit better, since there is less stress on the engine to rotate / accelerate. Porsche didn't make it standard equipment because I think they know only a small percentage of their buyers 'actually' knows how to properly drive a manual. LWFW make good manual drivers better, but bad manual drivers worse. You'd get complaints from owners saying there is chatter, but that's really because they are misusing the car / transmission. It's why the Carrera GT got such a bad name for its clutch. If you use it correctly, it lasts "forever" but if you apply gas when rolling away from stop in that car, then you'll burn through it quick. Porsche designed the car to just use the clutch to take the CGT away from a stop and have the computer add throttle. Once the clutch is fully released, then you can add as much gas as you want.
@juliank9114 ай бұрын
When you're free revving it, do you have it in sport mode? Do you have a sprint booster or other similar throttle interceptor? The speed it picks up revs is similar to my base Cayman 987.1 but with a sprint booster style throttle interceptor. I would definitely consider doing the lightened flywheel when it comes time to change my clutch..
