When auto manufacturers poll their focus groups, they don't list specific technologies. They ask if their buyers think "technology" is important. When focus groups inevitably say "I love technology," they're thinking of parallel park assist and radar cruise. German engineers, however, seem to think they mean "I love touch-enabled air vents"
@derbigpr5003 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure no engineer with any importance in Porsche cares or ever thought about that air vent. It's a totally irrelevant aspect.
@MyOldNameWasTaken3 жыл бұрын
@@derbigpr500 i think you are mistaken. That normally irrelevent turned "necessary" feature is now a big profit for the automaker once it stops working properly. Power heated and cooled moving seats? Power tilt and telescoping steering wheels? Radar enabled cruise control and lane assist/ safety braking? Lots of these things that would normally be manual/ not included in a car are now included not just to add a higher price tag (and more things to profit off of once the vehicle is sold) but also a big source of income in parts for the manufacturer and labor for the dealerships. Once one of these things fail, they don't just stop working. You get a CONSTANT nagging every single time you start the vehicle at best and at worst they start affecting other systems and disable normal operation of the vehicle. The engineers aren't adding these features because you think they are out of touch. They are adding features for profit. Everything is thought of in these products, especially in the more premium vehicles. I feel like the average car enthusiast underestimates how far a car maker will go to increase revenue.

I have the Turbo S e-hybrid version of the Panamera, and I can say that it's a fantastic family car. Little kids can get in and out of the rear seats easily on their own. No giant SUV ride height to deal with. There's tons of cargo room in the rear for trips to Costco, Home Depot, etc. The PHEV aspect of it makes it great for quick trips in town for the school drop-off/pick-up, then to soccer practice, then to the birthday party, etc. When you're taking all those short trips, the EV part really shines! Yes, the cracked rotor PCCB brakes are nuts. So is the PVT Plus, 4 wheel steering, PASM, etc. It's all over the top, but it JUST WORKS when you use it all. Or just turn it all off and slam your right foot down to the floor and act like a hoon. Just don't be late picking up the kids.

The digital vent control wins the award of the dumbest idea in the automotive IT tech to date. It's not like that digital control saves you any space because you still have a physical vent with physical blades (or whatever they're called). The only thing it does is make it harder to adjust the vent because the physical blades don't move in real time, and the digital representation seems to a bit laggy, so I'd imagine it may take more than one attempt to set the vent to the right position sometimes. It doesn't SOLVE any problems (no space saved, no improvement in the easy of adjustment). Are people who design this kind of crap into cars total morons, or do they think buyers are? Boy these gimmicks are going to age well.

As a former owner of a plug-in hybrid Panamera for eight years, I can tell you that the car spent nearly one and half years at the dealer for repairs. It's complicated. The parts are scarce. Few techs have the training. PCNA has no interest in making the ownership experience suck less.

@@JStryker7 No one said anything about it being unattainable. But you are living in the clouds if you think the majority of people are able to purchase one. I can't get over the impression that , no matter how impressive the engineering, Mark just doesn't like any Porsche he's ever encountered. It always feels like he talks about them through gritted teeth as he tries to be sensitive to Jack's obvious love for them.

Wonderfully produced video. Just found this video and would like to comment from an owner of a 2018 4E hybrid sedan and about to take delivery on a 2022 4SE hybrid sport Turismo. I agree the cars are expensive, yes we can afford one but, my wife and I are environmentally conscious. She drives a Volvo XC 90 hybrid. We live in central Minnesota where it routinely gets to -20F in the winter and an all electric vehicle just isn’t practical. Both range issues and lack of charging infrastructure. I looked at a 4S Taycan seriously but, realized for many months of the year I wouldn’t be able to drive to Minneapolis and back without charging during the trip. This car allows me to get over a 1000 miles on a tank of gas during warmer months ( I live 5 miles from work) and can go days without the engine coming on but, can do launch control when the itch gets me. The ride, luxury features, etc are added benefits and this is about the only vehicle out there which checked all the boxes. I learned a lot from your video, especially when you two were under the car discussing technical features. I’m a new subscriber to the Chanel now. Thanks again Phil P. Little Falls,Mn

I hit 160 MPH in a 2011 Panamera Turbo years ago (launch control was activated). It scared the shit out of my friends. Everyone in the car, including myself, made those down syndrome seal noises that Mark released at 17:25. These are seriously fast cars that are simultaneously spirited and clinical. I have no idea what the newer Panamera's are like to drive, but I don't think the personality of the car has evolved much. They're capable and surprisingly reliable for a German car. I'd always play the douche card and park it with the rear wing up. Don't ask why. I guess cause' I'm a douche? If you like to wife swap, desire capability that you'll never use, and need people to know you are financially capable, this is the car for you.

Porsche has been developing their vehicles on the n.burg ring forever. I think this is where it gets its duel personality. The ring itself has a duel personality. It's where a lot of these German rigs get that duel personality.

I was very interested to see this review. This was the least reliable car I've ever owned. While it worked, it felt like a thing of beauty on the road, performance wise... while it worked. It didn't work correctly often. Porsche was my dream car all through my childhood. I would never own another. The car is for people who want to spend 10s of thousands a year on maintenance, and have another car to drive while it sits in the shop. Additionally, the car doesn't lend itself to being one you can bond with and work on yourself. Not that you can't... you can. But it rewards (if rewards is the word) the owner who can ask no questions and drop the car off at a dealer to be worked on under warranty, and have no care when it is fixed. Additionally, multiple fixes on the same issues are a constant. Online reviews show the 970 V8 as a mostly reliable vehicle. I can understand the sentiment, but owners who are not reporting their ownership via rose tinted glasses, will most likely honestly disagree.
@robcohen76783 жыл бұрын
did it really cost 10s of thousands a year on regular maintenance while in warranty? Or did you buy one second hand?

Just say you bought a second hand lemon & move on. A new car in warranty does not cost 10’s of thousands a year in maintenance!
