I have a Macan 4 on order. Here’s why: 1. I love Porsche vehicles. Had several, great engineering. 2. I have excess solar on house. Free electricity to charge. ICE is so 20th century, especially when electricity is free. 3. The Taycan is terrific, but no hitch for bike rack. 4. I want something other people aren’t driving. 5. I’m willing to pay for the quality (will keep the vehicle many years). 6. Need space for large dog. 7. Ordered 4 before 4S became available. Turbo seems overkill, with reports of drivers getting nauseous. Probably would get the 4S if ordering today, but 4 is fine. 8. Didn’t want a vehicle with a large tablet glued to the dash. Just my design preference. 9. Brand history, quality and reliability are important, as is the financial strength of the company. Some of these off-brand EV makers are going to go under (Fisker). 10. Macan has a monster charging curve and range will be good/ great for road trips (Kyle, 10% challenge on the Macan?) 11. So many choices to customize the vehicle. I will be getting a “one-of-a-kind” vehicle. 12. Driving reports from influencers are stellar: “Drives like a true Porsche!” Here’s what I give up: 1. Tesla charging network and software are better. 2. Money. Porsche prices are eye watering. 3. Design is OK, front is good, back is not as good (but coefficient of drag is very good) 4. OPD is not important to me. 5. Macan 4 0-60 is just OK, but not a big factor for me. Most people don’t use full acceleration very often. So, essentially I’m paying for quality, reliability, functionality (for me) and uniqueness. These are very expensive vehicles. Most people won’t be able to justify new, but the good news is that these vehicles will be affordable in the used market in a few years.

I think the inside of this looks sensational. Everyone else building EV,s seems fixated on just putting a steering wheel on a plain dashboard and attaching a big iPad with all controls on it. I think the designs of EV,s are a big factor as to why many people are NOT interested yet in buying one. Everybody I speak to at work, or socially all say the same thing when we discuss them. They like the idea of going EV, but the look of them is putting them off. They see ICE vehicles looking stylish and just upgrading gradually with new tech and they look nice, but for some reason, as soon as the same companies decide to build an EV, they suddenly get out the space ship design specs and commence making something which looks like it belongs in the Jetson’s garage. It’s not needed. Just give people choice for now, by making the same vehicles but with a choice of EV or PHEV that look the same as the ICE versions. Also for the same price or even a tad cheaper due to government subsidies to get everyone thinking more about EV,s.

And as I'm planning to keep it for as long as possible, I'll be able to avoid selling it and buying something more powerful (I know myself!). Thanks for reviewing this for Kyle! When it comes to regenerative braking, Porsche, Audi, and others offer a superior solution compared to Tesla. With their systems, you don’t need to press the brake pedal to activate regen-adaptive regenerative braking kicks in automatically when necessary, such as when approaching a car or slowing down for an intersection. This makes for a more comfortable and efficient driving experience. Tesla, on the other hand, lacks advanced brake-by-wire technology, so they don’t support blended braking. Given their Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities, you would expect them to have moved beyond their 2012 regen strategy by now, but it seems cost may be a limiting factor.
@bartdeking2 ай бұрын
You mean completely unnecessary, when you release the gas peddle a bit you coast, little more and you brake a bit even more you brake more, realse and you brake hard. Then press the brake and you brake insane hard. I do not get why you need anything more? Similarly why I do not get why people want drive modes (unless for fsd) When you drive you should always have full power and you can control your drive mode with your foot unless you are disabled.
@evkx2 ай бұрын

"regen is not very strong". YOU MEAN lift off deceleration / one pedal driving is not aggressive. This has nothing to do with regen. The porsche does exceptional regen. It just has to be intentional at the brake pedal, which actually tends to enhance efficiency. You get exactly the same regen for a given degree of deceleration regardless of mode in every EV. Its not like you're not going to brake. But coasting is what you should be doing as much as possible for efficiency.

They need to offer a "range spec" version with 245 square tire setup on 19in aero wheels. People buying the base model likely want range and want to save money. A square setup would help with cost and efficiency. This car definitely has a lot of good thing but its missing some features like one pedal driving and is priced high for what you get. It will sell well enough but I expect depreciation to still be somewhat brutal. Personally i dont care for one pedal driving as long as the brake pedal has some kind of intial regen to recoup energy. The reason is two pedal allow for a more graduate and finer control of the brake pedal. I drive a Tesla and gas performance car and the gas car can be driven in a smoother manner to some extent. Either way I think the Q6 E tron is the better pick for 20% less money. Should offer 95% of this cars stuff.

These stupid "why no one pedal driving blah blah blah" BS questions from still a lot of American "car journalists" don't show any learning curve. Listen, you clowns: PORSCHE EVs are recuperating with much more power than almost any other EV! For example, the Macan electric recuperates with up to 240 KW and the Taycan with even up to 420 KW! Porsche just want to guarantee its customers the same driving and braking feel in the electric Macan like in every other ICE Porsche model. And therefore "one pedal" BS in a modern Porsche is still totally irrelevant! Just use the brakes, after coasting the electric Porsche! This way of braking recuperation is also very efficient, but sadly some Americans are still too dumb to understand it.

Regen is very useful when you are coming to a full stop or braking hard, but in those situations you might as well use the brake pedal as you normally would. When you are driving dynamically its more efficient to try and carry the momentum when making slight adjustments to speed, since regen is never 100% efficient. What you're not understanding is that the Chinese government is actively subsidizing their EV production. It's not square competition.

My 2021 Tesla model 3 standard range plus can go zero to 60 in 5.3 seconds. Is more efficient, but has lower range due to a smaller battery pack. Let me do the math. Bought mine used with 35k miles on it for $25,000. Thank you for this review. You just made me feels so much better about my Tesla purchase! :) But no one peddle driving? Seriously? Fail. Great review.

Well but your Tesla is a generic shitbox

M3 is crap compared to the Macan. OPD sucks

I mean if you're looking at the used market, you can pick up a nice Lucid for 60k with low miles

@omnicognatesnr5947 I am so happy for you and the other 0.023% of drivers that think similarly like you. For the rest of us there is the tesla that outperforms in everything. 😂
@JoeS977562 ай бұрын
Exactly, my model 3 performance is almost 6 years old, weighs 1,000 lbs less and will smoke all the Macan models and tie the Turbo in 0-60.

Good to see that porsche is almost bankrupt. Would be good to see this company gone after what they did in w w 2 . The sooner the better

It's such a goofy looking thing, You can see how they had to make similar shapes to a Tesla Y for aero, but just put a tacky porsche flair to it. I'll take better tech and better value of a Tesla + enjoy the number 1 charging network in the world.
@kenan02932 ай бұрын
Better value? Just because something is cheaper doesn’t mean it’s better value. Macan has better ride quality, better materials, better charging and an overall better driving experience than any Tesla. Those things may not be of value to you but they will be for others and that’s Porsches target demo.

I like the M3 design wise - but the Model Y is just a miss, ugly - but it's a matter of taste.
@computercrack2 ай бұрын
Better tech? Head up display? rear axle steering? Adjustable dampers? BRAKES??? Should i go on??? the Tesla is fine to go from A to B. nothing more. you could take the bus instead

Dude porsche has an all new air adaptive suspension amongst so many other features tesla doesnt have. Plus charging speed is way faster in the new porsches. For u to even act like the ugly NpCmobile model y looks better then this is absolutely delusional. If someone made a poll over 90% would say the macan EV looks better. This makes the model Y look even more prehistoric then it was
@JoeS977562 ай бұрын

Thanks for going, Dad! I had to cancel this trip at the last minute but Out of Spec Dave has us covered 🫡 In terms of pricing the Turbo still seems like an enticing value when you start to spec up a 4S… I’m not so sure how many people in our market would want a RWD version of this car. But time will tell!

Porsche EV sales are in the toilet. I beleive yhe fact that they don't offer single pedal drive negatively affects sales. Single pedal drive is simply a software implementation, so why would you not just offer it for the folks who regularly drive EVs and are used to it?
@Drumox2 ай бұрын
From what I recall porsche engineers said previously is that OPD isn't as efficient, but I do agree that it needs to be an option

because Porsche are drivers cars not for fat lazy folk who need the car on one pedal

Yup. I wanted a Taycan until I learned that it lacks what I consider one of the key features of an EV. I would like to invite Porsche engineers to spend one day in Los Angeles with one pedal drive, and one without.

Recomend trying a car with propper regen implementation like Porsche/Audi and more. The low tech Tesla way without adaptive regen or blended braking was ok in 2012, but now I is a mystery why they dont offer adaptive regen. More comfortable and more efficent.
