Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo! The Sports EV you NEED!

How on Earth can you merge the emotional brilliance of the Raw GTS brand, into an Electric car like #Taycan, that’s one difficult task, but one #Porsche have apparently achieved…In this! The new Taycan GTS, here in the all new Sport Turismo Variant. Not to be confused with the slightly easier riding, more off road focused CROSS Turismo. The Sport is identical in it’s driving behavior to the sportier saloon, just with more junk in that beautiful trunk!
And in the GTS, it’s the sexiest looking Taycan ever made. Taycan family has grown, like Asian families, we’ve probably got excited and popped out one too many. But the GTS is always that one kid of yours who is the family athlete, a proper chip off the old block.
But how on Earth do you achieve that with an EV? Today we will explore this question. This car slots inbetween a Taycan 4S, which has 490BHP (571 overboost), 0-60 of 4.0 seconds. Torque of 650NM and a Taycan Turbo which has 625PS (680 overboost) and a 0-60 of 3.2.
The GTS has 517PS, 598 overboost, and Torque sits at 850NM, which is the same figure as our Turbo! And a 0-60 of 3.7 seconds (which I will test in a minute!). So it sounds like a 4S, but with a considerable injection of power and speed in every driving situation.
Now let’s check out what’s actually different, because it would suck if this was a mere software update! Now all 4WD Taycans have two Permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, or PSMs. They also have a 600-amp pulse inverter which is our motor on the rear, and a 2 speed gearbox.
First gear is mainly used in Sport or Sport Plus driving modes. Launch Control is also available in these modes. The transmission remains in first gear for a relatively long time, then shifts into second gear with a shift overboost.
The Taycan 4S, has a 300 amp inverter in the front and a 600 amp on rear. It’s rear motor, the most important one, is shorter at 130MM. This makes it a bit lighter than our turbos The Taycan Turbo S also has a 300 amp inverter on the front and a 600 amp one on the rear, but it’s rear motor is longer, at 210MM.
The same is true of our GTS, so it’s not an uprated 4S, but more of a detuned Turbo. That means its heavier than the 4S, closer to turbo, but the torque drive of the longer motor will mean it feels different to a 4S driver like me.
The adaptive air suspension, including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), is specifically adapted to the GTS, to the benefit of the lateral dynamics. The set-up of the optional rear-axle steering is also even sportier. The richer sound pattern of the modified Porsche Electric Sport Sound underscores the character of the new GTS model. Finally: The Sport Chrono Package, is fitted as standard. The Sport mode has also been designed to be even more dynamic, compared to other Taycan models.
Design-wise it gets Sport Designbody as standard, with Taycan Turbo trim details, and High-Gloss Black painted inserts everywhere including the light strip with the Porsche logo in Black. The new RS Spyder Design comes with 21-inch wheels, also available exclusively to the GTS in Satin Black - they’re the best Taycan Wheels ever.
Interior is the usual GTS mission of as much Race-Tex as possible with the Sport Chrono package - but the highlight of the interior is the roof. The new panoramic roof with Light Control has an electric glare protection as a special large glass surface is divided into nine sections that can be individually controlled. This means there is the option to not only turn the entire roof transparent or opaque but also individual segments or patterns!!
But in my last video, I found my 4S to be almost perfect. Can Porsche's #Supercar GTS convince me to buy it?

I love your reviews, very well done. The GTS does indeed look like a fantastic version, but I’m happy with my Cross Turismo with the off road package. I’m a kayaker, hiker and skier so I actually do take mine on rutted dirt and gravel roads so the extra cladding and higher ground clearance compared to the sedan are a must for me.

GTS across the board from the Cayman to the Macan, are always the most realistic sports model for the road. Fast without being too fast, and the best handling packages. My dream is owning a Cayman GTS.

If the camera's fixed, then just take a frame at speed limit and overlay just the speedo section by masking out the rest of the layer. A static frame shot of the speedo is less shady than the blur effect. Just a thought

I currently have a Turbo S, but I'm seriously considering getting a GTS instead.. I feel like price / performance GTS is the way to go plus the styling of the Sport Turismo puts it over the top for me.

I have to agree. I have had a turbo for the last 15 months and put 18000 miles on it and have found ev ownership perfect but tbh the performance it’s sometimes more than you need. This GTS could be perfect. The extra boot space and the estate styling would be nice and I love this colour…. What time does Porsche wilmslow open in the morning….

Man they killed this. It just has perfect shape and proportions. I was a big fan of the Porsche Panamera but always liked the sport back better and wasn’t a big fan of the sport turismo because just looked to big and clunky imo but in the taycan the regular sedan is ok but in this shape it’s just perfect looking. Also the interior on Porsche is always nice and I’m sure the driving dynamics is the best of the best.

All 2022 Taycan should have the front axle decoupling to save power. It's possible the GTS has more official range because its range was tested more recently.

GREAT reviews! This one convinced me the GTS is the car for me. One suggestion: when the video features an exterior shot of the car speeding down the road with the 'motor sound' AND the audio of you speaking continues to run in the background, it is near impossible to understand what you are saying. I have no idea what the end of your sentence was from 18:03-18:06. Please consider ending your narration before you cut to the shot of the car with accompanying sound.

Just watched your latest review of the GTS. Great one, as always. I drive a Cross Turbo myslelf. I actually enjoy the power delivery in my Turbo (allthough I do not really use launch control almost at all). Do you think that especially in Sport Plus Mode (my favorite) they are quite comparable when it comes to driving impressions?

Taycan GTS ST order books in the UK are now well into the back end of 2023, if not Q1 2024. Production shuts down for an extended period very soon too, which can only compound the issue. You're right to want one but good luck getting one. I've had my deposit in since December 2021 and still no signs of an allocation.

However, this year component shortages have compounded the problem so rumours are for an extended shutdown, to allow supply chains to restock. My local Porsche Sales Assistant this morning confirmed that currently they are receiving ZERO cars from Germany. Any make or model, not just Taycans.

I decided to get a 4s and up spec it with all the features (minus the extra power of course) as I wanted a car in 2023, the dealer told me in May 22 that GTS Sport was looking like delivery in Q1 2024. I now have an allocation with expected completed by end of March 23. I'm taking that with a pinch of salt until we get to the actual build slot in Feb 23.

I test drove the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo and found the ride excellent. I wish this reviewer had spent more time discussing the ride quality on various road surfaces as opposed to all of that time spent discussing the Porsche Electric sound (which most people must turn off completely after the first week). I'd also be curious to know whether to roof glass goes from the "milky" colour when activated to as clear as normal glass when it is turned off. I've see this glass used in office boardrooms (walls) and when the glass is opaque it looks like the Taycan's glass roof, but when it is set to transparent, it looks kind of funky and still slightly milky looking through it. If that is the case, I'd just skip it.

For someone flipping between a taycan and a long range Tesla S, have you driven the new Tesla. The range, power and tech on the Tesla keeps pulling me that way despite the driving and looks of the Porsche. Nearly 400 miles compared to 200 is a serious difference which is hard to ignore and the Tesla has improved the interior significantly. Still leaning towards the Porsche but the decision is so hard!

A colleague has a Taycan. He can’t even bring it to work because it won’t fit through the gates (Heathrow airport staff car park) or in the parking spaces ! Meanwhile my MY (with acceleration boost) is way faster and takes the whole family ! The Porsche interiors are gorgeous, but the Model Y is a far far more exciting car to own.

Coming from a Model 3 owner, I would instantly sell a kidney and my firstborn to get a Taycan Sport Turismo. The Model Y is definitely the more practical car, but never ever the more exciting car to own. Also only the Taycan RWD and Taycan 4 are slower then a Model Y.

@@fischwaffel96 You maybe correct ! It is £105K though 😱 I don’t know ! The Taycan has “funny” limits on how it uses its power. A Model Y (LR) with acceleration boost will do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds consistently. A Model Y (Performance) 3.5 seconds The quickest Taycan is quicker, But that’s £150K All the £100K Taycans get annihilated by the Tesla offerings. My friend experienced an amber light and warning light (tortoise symbol ) after trying for a second acceleration run.

This just shows how little you know about the car xD Looks can be subjective, the practicality of an estate is undeniable, and the performance (not just 0-100 numbers or range) of this Porsche make it a true Porsche, in terms of handling, cornering, steering feel, weight management, suspension, etc ... Porsche aren't new to the 4 doors luxury body type. They've been making panameras for over a decade, and the taycan is smaller and sportier than the panamera

@@YounesLayachi When was Porsche about practicality. 911 and 718 to some extent are the only true Porsche imo, that's the one they care about the most. Everything else is just for the cash flow. If you want all these features you go buy a Merc. Maybe the fact that I'm still single with no kids and IKEA to carry has something to do with it. Edit: The car is not bad, it's just getting way too much attention imo for what it is.
