At highest level 0-60 acceleration 0.1 of a second really count, that can make a cost difference of hundreds of thousands regarding ICE cars - so you mentioned the Chiron, that car costs millions. For daily driving the 0.1 second makes no difference. Regarding interior design I prefer the Model S, but regarding fit and finish the Taycan, but I do not like the "button and screen overload".

Jen true, but my wife has a Porsche and I’ve been in my neighbor’s Model S several times. Her name is also Jen. The differences in fit and finish and general materials quality are dramatic. It would irk me to pay that much for a Tesla when what I have seen and heard is that those issues are common. Personally those things really stand out to me. She has had a lot of issues with paint. Something she has never mentioned, but I always do notice is that she has several panel gap and other similar fit issues. Again, a pet peeve. Personally, though handling and engagement is tops on my list. My personal car is a manual Mazda with a paltry 187hp because it was the most engaging car I test drove. Jen loves her car, but my proclivities definitely lean towards engaging cars.

Model S is twice the size in terms of space and is a family sedan. Taycan is a sportscar with interior size on Model 3 level. So they are not targeting the same audience. I think you're missing a crucial point about range, The Taycan needs to be charged twice as often which means its battery life is a lot worse.

Compare that with Mercedes that changes their look drastically, you'll have a young but really outdated looking car in no time (except with the G wagon of course)

I have driven both cars and own a Model 3 Performance, for me this review is bang on the money. The only thing it misses is the UX of the Taycan, it's awful, I just got bored navigating endless "tiny" screens. The Taycan is beautiful in the flesh though, you can't see it in videos, trust me it blows the Tesla away on looks. For me, the Model 3 is just SOOOO easy to own and park and insure and out-accelerate everything else without having to play with buttons or screens or launch. As a day to day driver, a Model 3 is the winner, not either of the cars in the video.

Douglas York II , there are many equivalent dual-clutch gearboxes like the PDK. It is hard to compare reliability with DSG, as there are much more VW cars and the average Porsche are low mileage. And what experience or data do you have that a brand new model Roadster will be any good? That car is still a myth at this point, along with all the claims to it.

Interesting review. Car Magazine reviews of the Taycan indicate that it's 2 speed automatic is described as a little rough when it shifts occur between the two modes. Not as smooth as the price would imply. Test drive it in shifting situations before buying as this "feature" may be a long term annoyance as an owner. Also the Tesla is a single speed which is always smooth and it tends to regen engine brake when foot pressure is removed from the accelorator making it easier to than the Taycan in traffic which tends to glide leading to needing to manually brake more often.

I’m done with that model where the service becomes a major revenue driver and these EV’s can’t be serviced outside the dealer…. I would never own a Porsche outside warranty or buy pre-owned high mile because they’re designed to return to dealer for service revenue. Porsche service advisor told me the Taycan will be serviced the same minus oil changes… I also don’t want to sit my car at the dealership for weeks while it updates software, same thing was told to me by the dealer.

I don't think we can compare cars anymore without discussing the technology offered by the car. I don't mean just UI. I mean, functionality via your car's software. I'm talking over-the-air updating that improves not only your interface to the car, but can actually improve the performance in some cases. Creating a dash cam and sentry mode using the car's cameras. Yes, even dog mode among other features. Again, all added in an over-the-air update.
