Several of these cars are in Gran Turismo 4, including the Panoz Esperante GTR-1, the Nissan R390 GT1, the Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR, and the Toyota GT-One (TS020), and I'm impressed at how similar the circuit looks on GT and real life.

They really need to bring the high powered GT cars back to Le Mans. These cars looked awesome back in the day, even though I never actually saw them in my childhood. It was the Gran Turismo series that brought me here. Modern day prototypes just look plain ugly since they added those stupid tail fins between the roof and the rear wings!

Except these GT1 cars were prototypes and not "real" GT cars, due to the fact that all GT1 teams were exploiting the rules at the time. Same reason GT1 cars were faster than the prototypes in 98/99.

No, it's a V8 in the Mercedes. The BMW has a V12. The MB did have a V12 though in 1997, but switched to a V8 for 1998. The commentators even say so early in the broadcast.

A good effort from Toyota, but the ever reliable Porsche factory pulled it off, with a one two finish, simply awesome.

@Cassnet Personally 1999 was the best year imo. All of the cars had been developed and almost bulletproof.

the courage, porsche, kremer, ferrrai and BMW LMP's were pretty fast as well, but they all suffered reliability issues

1998 was one of the last great years at Le Mans before Audi and then diesel cars ruined it. Gotta love that Ferrari 333SP, and those sexy 911 GT1s!

Lol I know, but u get both versions of the track on GT4, but I think the whole track doesn't look realistic on GT4. Still the best track in a racing game tho IMO

No es que sean lentos lo que paso es que toyota mercedes y porsche mejoraron esos tiempos y practicamente hacen ver al grupo lider del 97 como mas retrasados pero que tanta ventaja tenian era en velocidad final o en pique?

After the failures in 96 and 97, it's funny how conservatively did the 911GT1s raced. But it worked.
