The captain of a menhaden ship was cited for fishing within a restricted buffer zone off Terrebonne Parish near Vermillion Bay early this month, the first such citation under new rules. This does more than catch and release for sure about time.

thanks Jon for your effort to show how it is done.always learn something from watching. noticed the sharks hit lures without leader, braid only. do the specks also hit jig braid only also, or do you prefer having fluorocarbon when deep jigging? also since water temps are up is this best now to fish deeper water 10-15 ft as opposed to next to rocks or shorelines. I am in shell beach area,lots of interior bayous with deep water,dont have enough boat to fish outside, but can fish Lake Borgne when winds are calm. John

I fish everything with a fluorocarbon leader although I'm sure that trout will hit baits without leaders some of the time. In this video I didn't use a leader just so that I could try and catch those large species. Rock shorelines and jetties can also hold trout in the summer when they are lining deep channels.

Good stuff man. You might want to throw cheaper baits next time. From now until sept, sharks, jacks, bull reds and Spanish mackerel are going to be showing up more and more. You could also make some wire leaders but your lures won’t have the same action. Also, good job showing to put fresh water on your reel after it’s submerged. The salt water down there would have started to corrode/rust it by the time you got home.
