Nelson's blood: Rum. Nelson's body was preserved at sea in Rum. It was said that some sailors took surreptitious sips at the Rum, giving us the phrase "Tapping the Admiral" meaning "Drinking Rum"

Actually picked up a bottle of the 15 year old Pusser's Rum a few months back. I only have it on the rare occasion, but it's quite good. Strange to think that it was brewed in the 20th century. Has it really been over 14 years? Got the 100 year anniversary of WWI starting come July 28th, and on June 28th there recently was the 100 year anniversary of Archduke Franz Ferdinand being assassinated by Gavril Princip, if I've got their names right. Anyways, a drop of Nelson's Blood won't do you any harm, and it certainly hasn't done me any harm. Best rum going, and this song is easily one of my favourite folk style songs to drink to. CHEERS!

I'm glad the men here found some recognition for what they were doing and, hipsters hijacking it notwithstanding, it's good that the sea songs have got a higher profile now - due in part, in this country, to this band, no doubt. However...compared to David Coffin's performance at the Portsmouth Festival, I find this version a little...bloodless, and pedestrian.
@Dolf9726720032 жыл бұрын
This one feels more realistic to me. David Coffin sounded too professional to me, where the lead in this version sounds more like a sailor instead of a professional singer.
@loucypher92132 жыл бұрын
@@Dolf972672003 Curious - to me, this version feels like it's had all the rough edges knocked-off and the balls cut-off. Ah, well, it's subjective, so to each their own. 😉

The song is actually called "Roll the Old Chariot Along." "Nelson's Blood" is actually brandy - when Nelson's body was borne back from Trafalgar, his coffin was filled with brandy to preserve his corpse, afterward "Nelson's Blood" became a slang term for Brandy.
