If a strike goes on Check the dates on food goods.I remember some of those barges with food items were close to expiration by the time it got to grocery stores.

This is a god send for the Fed. The rate of inflation is about to increase because it cut rates, but if there’s a strike, they can blame supply chain disruptions. Just like they did in 2021.

Makes sense when you think about it, Right now you have an administration that is extremely close to labor, so they figure they are better off striking now, when the admin will back them and basicly give them everything they want, as opposed to a possible Trump admin that may temper their expectations.

@@mvsgeek on the west coast the ILWU was working. The governor wouldn’t let certain trucks in to pick up containers. The pier was overloaded with containers. To discharge ship you need space and well if truck drivers aren’t allowed in to pick up boxes they can’t discharge ships. They were working and so was the East Coast.

Good Harris will be awful. All these strikes are a result of people mad their money isn’t keeping up with the economy reflecting on the Biden administration poor printing habits and endless spending, global conflicts now BRICS. We as a nation rely to heavily on imports as it is BRICS will destroy us. Kamala will just be more of this garbage. If the workers felt their money took them places they wouldn’t strike

@@lazarosanchez5314 the difference in pay between West Coast and East Coast is substantially different. Difference in retirement benefits from port to port up and down the East coast is also greatly different. You have people at fast food making $20 a hour. Longshoremen operating a crane unloading a ship 140’ in the air should definitely make a lot more. When that ship comes in. Men are placed by crane on top of the containers with long poles and they have to on lock the boxes over 100’ in the air. It’s dangerous work. Lots of fatalities.

So many new investment firms have come in and bought at the ports, it’s About those managers, holding onto their inflated salaries and share holdings trying to show investors They can turn A profit for Paying absorb…. Prices in shares. From the inside looking out longshoore does have a lot of perks but on the numbers end ide rather see them get paid than greedy investment firms.

Unions don't want ports more efficient to speed up the supply chain, so we are stuck with old technology and paying labor we shouldn't be paying .we need the modern machinery the world is changing and ports need to change and grow with the world.

Who's paying? Are you literally paying them? The shipping companies made billions extra during the pandemic while men and women died at the docks during COVID-19. They didn't have a great contract the last 6 years and the raises we got were literally eaten up by inflation

Workers getting paid more is bad for the economy and causes inflation. CEOs and companies making insane profits has no effect on what we pay at the register. I like profit but if their jobs are so important that the economy will suffer if they strike, maybe they SHOULD get paid more.

The world’s biggest importer nation has one of the most technologically behind port systems because of unions. To protect inefficient longshoremen jobs, we should get rid of cranes and load the ships with man powers😂

Our ports are terrible. Even our best port is ranked 17th globally I think. Another area where China is eating our lunch. They also have 232x our shipbuilding capacity.
