Truckers work their butts off…. Truckers work crazy hours…. Truckers work in terrible conditions too… Truckers get ZERO respect from shippers, receivers, the public and have 5,000 cops in each state harassing them!!! Truckers get fined for the smallest things!!! Things that have nothing to do with safety!!!! We are garbage to most folks!!! Even though we bring everything everybody needs to any and all locations!!! Until we have a disaster!!! Then we’re praised and celebrated for a short time until things get back to normal.. the it’s back to being a piece of crap to everyone!!! If Truckers came together for a week that mindset would change forever!!! Rates are in the toilet even though everything in the stores are triple !!! Insurance rates are insane, upkeep is insane and the fines for the smallest things are insane!!! For instance, a wide load had to park at a waystation in Texas and he was fined $750 for parking in a public tax paid revenue making facility. Now tell me non-truckers is that right? The driver did the right thing by getting off the road with a wide load before dark And was fined $750 for that. That is a very small example of what truckers go through every day. Just wanna say thank you for all the pleasant comments for the trucking community.. I’m very impressed by the amount of people who appreciate truckers. Thanks again folks

That’s the common misconception, I retired after 30 years working for a private sector (post MaBell breakup) telecom company represented by Union. I’ve been in over 5 strikes with the longest being 17 weeks and I lost my job got it back but we kept our benefits, job security, healthcare both as an active employee and as a retiree. Over that time I was forced to work for storm damage, heavy workload and for adequate field coverage made a ton of money paid a ton of taxes working a few time over 3 months straight without a day off. The bottom line is I became pension eligible, retired and the taxpayer doesn’t pay squat for it, my company has to compete with all other telecom companies for your business. Government workers are totally different and depend on a monopoly and Zuk off the tit of the taxpayer with no competition. That’s where our problems lie friend.

If you;ve ever dealt with unions you know the union leadership cares about UNION DUES because they make millions, pay into political action groups, support politicians, etc. It's all courrupt. These longshoremen have some damn good jobs with great pay and benefits above and beyond the average person. You can't even get a job with them without knowing someone who knows someone. Sorry Chadd, you're way off the mark here. These people are not struggling for more pay to provide. These workers currently earn an average of $39/hr. They want to earn $69/hr. While a lot of their fellow citizens that they are hurting are earning minimum wage. But they want to convince those making less than they do that they can't make it on what they earn. I'm all for getting a raise, but 77% ? And when the contract ends in 6 years, will they do this to us again? And you're right...what if other categories of workers decide they also need to hold us hostage in order for their demands to be met. This isn't the way things are done. Maybe their jobs should be automated, so they can't hold the rest of us hostage and affect OUR quality of life to support theirs. They were offered a 50% increase, but that wasn't enough.... Good luck to the rest of us.

They want 50% over the course of the contract which is 6 years (10% a year). All they do is take the highest inflation % and one up it. So because of biden they look at 9%. Also the people they negotiate with own the ports. 80% of those companies that own our ports are foreigners including one being owned by the CCP. Love it or hate it all this guy is doing is fighting to keep jobs in America. If the large shipping companies get there way they're going to go full automation and put thousands of people out of work. If you believe full automation = lower prices...that's not going to happen.

I can assure you just because we are in a union does not mean we are democrat. I think we are represented terribly. On one hand our leaders will tell us vote democrat but they're the ones that jacked up the economy. A lot of blue collar guys own guns and drive diesel trucks but the democrats want to take that away too. Republicans hate us because we want to be compensated by these companies. Love it or hate it (and this may be a cop out) but its more than just, I'm on this side and they're on that side. If you enjoy a two weekend that's because of unions. If you have healthcare or a 401k that's also because of unions. They fought for their guys to get it and non-union companies had to offer it to be competitive.
@sharont9639Сағат бұрын
@KingGenoOfficial unions began as a good idea and were good for the middle class, but have progressed to a self-serving entity. The higher the wages, the more dues collected, the higher the salaries of the union officials. I've worked with union guys, and there were weeks when I brought home more than they did. I've also been in the office when the guys came in on Monday after finding out that the Treasurer of their local had taken their money and left the country.
@KingGenoOfficial22 минут бұрын
@@sharont9639 Think about this. A union Electrician makes $50 an hour. What then does a non-union electrical contractor pay the employee? Well I would say one of the reasons you made more is because the price was set by the union. If I want a good electrician and I want to poach him from the union I've got to offer him/her more than the union can offer. I've worked for both union and non-union and can stand with you saying there is corruption but to think its one sided and only the union is corrupt is absurd to me. Would your company pay you more money than the union offered if they didnt have to?

Some were farming families, some dads were in the professions, and some like my dad were small businessmen. We all enjoyed a similar standard of living in our rural Ohio community. That standard of living allowed mothers to stay home and manage the households and the kids. These mothers also volunteered at the schools, led Cub Scout and Brownie Troops, and did most of the work at the churches. I am in my 70s. Our friends who are around our age agree. Life was better back then, for everyone.

Machines: need no sick days, or smoke breaks, or holiday observances, or be a no call, no show, or leave early, or come to work late, or start fights, or need maternity leave, etc., etc. The powers that be know this; therefore, they know it will increase uptime and their bottom line: Profits.
