Hi Dwayne, I'm 73 and started splitting logs and cutting up fallen trees for firewood for my daughters, point is, in my early to late 60's I loved splitting the logs with a great wee (small) axe I had, reached 71 and it just wasn't so easy or satisfying but still needed to split logs. So having a tractor to go and lift the wood I decided a log splitter for the tractor would be a good idea and that's what I did, now I'm splitting more wood than I ever did, you know what it's still as satisfing as ever, using my brain not my brawn. My Old dad told me something that I'm only getting to understand now, he said Lawrence pace yourself, you don't have to do something in 1 hr and be knackered (tired out unable to contiue) when you could do it slower and then continue to do something else without having to rest up, because you paced (slow & Steady) yourself. Love your content a new convert!

I'm a woman, long divorced and retired for health reasons a few years ago as an RN. I cried watching and listening to this because I related to all of it. My two children are in their 30s with great careers but on opposite sides of the country. They don't really know how much I miss them and long to see them. My sister recently died, she was the last of my immediate family. Everyone is gone and all are scattered, and the loneliness gets the best of me on many days. Jesus is my conversationalist on whom I depend. Don't mean in any way to sound pitiful or morose, only that my sunset years have so far proven to be the darkest of my life. Hi Belinda, I’m a seventy year old Englishman and my wife died twenty years ago in horrible circumstances. It’s tough for we people on our own ,but we tough it out and keep going. I too have kids and grandkids who I don’t see often enough . I know they care but they have their own lives ,and let’s be honest ,they are growing into an increasingly insane world . I just try and count my blessings every day and live in the moment ……it doesn’t always work ,so on some days I have to give myself a talking to. One thing I have discovered is that the best people I meet have either been through bad times or are presently suffering hardship. There are many smug self satisfied people about and I avoid them like the plague , as to me they are a vexation to the spirit ,as the eulogy says. Love and best wishes Belinda, and keep on trucking! I'd recommend volunteering for your community or if you can't find a volunteer organization that's a good fit for you, start your own non profit or initiative to champion values that you think are important. Your experience in law enforcement will really contribute to your knowledge of what work is important. It takes time and patience to find the right non profit that you fit with so don't get discouraged if people arnt looking for help or if you find organizations you don't like, eventually you will find something if you put yourself out there. And id reframe what you are doing. You arnt retired, you are financially independent. Now you get to do whatever work makes you satisfied and you can do it for low or no pay. Hope this helps you find purpose and connection to community during these later years of your life and best of luck.

Whenever I started at the first company,there was an old man that was on the team. He was maybe 70. Yes was slower than he used to be but he was a kind old man and super intelligent. He didn't know me at all and immediately offered to help me whenever I needed it. They fired him because they said he couldn't do the job anymore in a timely manner. Instead of keeping him and making him a supervisor or trainer,they fired him. A few months later we heard he died. I guess he felt he had no purpose. Still makes me angry to this day.

I'm not a man - I am an old woman - but I agree 100% with what you are saying. You older guys with all your wisdom (well, some don't have wisdom but they were never going to) are a valuable resource in this world. You can literally keep someone or a good horse from getting hurt bad or killed. This is something you took your whole life to come to, all this know-how, and it is probably more valuable than brute strength or everlasting stamina. And having the good sense to find the good in your days and be there with a willing heart especially for your family is just something without price. I can't ride anymore and don't have a horse but I do love to see your horses and hear all your good teaching. And, you are darn right you do not want to sneak up on a wild hog with a little ax. I went to the PD, and it was the same story. I went through several logging outfits here in Maine, offering to help. Hell, I'll push a broom or wash a damn truck. "Sorry, you're an insurance liability." I even went to the Schools offering to be a big brother. Because of the way the world is, they don't do Big Brother like they used to because of sexual predators. So I go out to my shed and putter and try not to be bitter. The lawyers ruined the world. Seriously. Big big part of all that went sour. Said it yourself. Everyone is worried about being sued or losing coverage so they can be insured in case they do get sued. I get it brother. And I am one of the sort that is inclined to carry a more negative hopeless, sick of it all... The problems are too vast and no one cares, so I will just be angry towards modernity and mankind as a package... Haha. BUT maybe instead of always asking others if you can join them. Start something yourself. Anywhere, doing anything, with anyone , or no one but yourself if that's how it goes down.. but from thinking on what you said it seems to me that you could find one thing out in the world somewhere that would be benefited from someone doing it. Yet no one is.... Find that thing. Especially if it calls to you often or relates to skills or proclivities you hold. It's like I told this kid at work just last night. Speaking back and forth about how frustrating and utterly hopeless our workplace is. And how no one trys and no one cares. But that's the exact thing KEEPING it going that same way and getting worse into the future. So if it honestly does bother you. The only real choice you have is to do the best you can. Go above and beyond. Even while nearly all others barely could be considered to be even working... Because it's just the right thing to do. Because going through life participating knowingly in things that you know are not right and just giving up. That trains your mind and body for only greater negatively and weakness. And you will not respect yourself, nor will anyone else ever have much of a reason to have any respect for you either. Long story short. I then put it all together in the saying "anything worth doing at all, is worth doing RIGHT". Idk friend. Maybe Instead of feeling defeated and left out and helpless... Get serious. Gotta ask yourself what you honestly want. And are willing to do. Then if the answer is "I'm not upset and or motivated enough to honestly do what it takes , what the world NEEDS to allow me to participate in something great... If you know you can't, won't, or don't... How can you ever harbor any ill feelings about any of it anyways? BUT if you are actually serious and are one of the rare "real ones" out there. Then you already know exactly someone or something that you could benefit right now. Even if it's unorthodox and small. Just go do it! And that leads to the next, then the next... Hell maybe go door to door and tell folks who you are. And how you are a neighbor of theirs... A retired firefighter. And you were looking to put together a small informational and life and crisis training group for any local kids that would be interested. Or would benefit. Things like teaching younger kids how to check smoke detectors, identify fire hazards... How to use a fire extinguisher... Small stuff like that. Design a little packet or few day course. Few hours a day... Take them to places where they can do something kinda fun. That they never did before. But also be teaching them information that will stick in their head somewhere. Where one day they could save lives or property because of something you taught them!

Thank you for this video, sir, it is very timely for me. I am relatively young, knocking on the door of 40, but I had a bit of a panic recently. I had my birthday, had a serious medical scare, a hip injury and a separate medical diagnosis all in short order of each other and that made me lost sight of the important things in my life for a couple weeks. This video was great info for me to fill a void of wisdom from not having any grandfathers left on earth. My father also died at age 51, not that he was in my life anyway, but he was gone as well. I seek wisdom and counsel from God's Word and the older Godly men in my life. I also like listening to videos like this to supplement and glean more wisdom from. God bless and thank you again sir.

As a young man. 29. Turning 30 this month. I have no idea about horses. But in life I know most of us young men will not listen to the advice of older men. And we pay the consequences. And with that comes real experience. Some men value real experience. Even at the cost of their health. God bless. Thank you for the video.

Its 6:30am listening to you and stretching and slowly warming up for what my body will let me do. Life of factory life and martial arts. The message of 10% to 90% ratios is so true. Mr. Dewayne thank You, for I needed to hear this! I ain't the man that I use to be, and I find myself grouchy and short tempered because I can't do what I use to. Trying to calm myself with a pipe and coffee and all of this idle time is hard. I'm disabled now, and I'm trying to adjust to the fact that my back and body won't let me be the man that I have always been. It ain't easy, but it's time to learn to relax, be calm, and just enjoy being alive.Thank You for All the wisdom that you share. Happy Smoking!

I listen to you quite often and sometimes what you say brings tears to my eye literally When I was four, my parents passed away in a car accident along with some other family members and we were adopted and I became very rebellious about everything. It seem like I was the one in charge of everything I had to watch my other two siblings like a babysitter all the time while my parents went out , I ended up going in the military at 17 and becoming a victim of military sexual trauma and it just made me angry and more of a hindrance to society so much that I got into trouble and had to spend time in prison for a couple years, but all through my life When I was in foster homes, two of the foster homes made us go steel to eat and I’m talking back in the 60s. We had to go to the store while my foster parents sat outside and we were going and steal steak and food and snacks if we wanted to eat, and then when we got home, they would take the better of the things that we stole for themselves and we would end up with macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese and cheese cheese didn’t matter we got stuck with the worst of whatever we took, but I guess the years have gone by and I’ve gone through Two wives and I’m on my third wife this time. I’ve been married for 25 years. I think mainly it’s because she’s Filipino and they’re very forgiving and she stuck me for a long time even for my shortcomings. I am on Social Security now I’m almost 65. I start my Medicare here real soon, but sometimes I wish I could go someplace and heal my trespasses and some of the things you say make me wish I was, there with you to talk to you man and clean my life up and learn how to keep from spending money all the time and maxing out credit cards. I want to learn to be another man not another but I want to be a man my parents that adopted us would whip us and beat us, but I still drink out of the hose in the yard but I wish there was a way I could come stay with you for a while and learn better person in life. I’m not talking about my wife. I’m just talking about myself and be able to find out. Who I am I don’t think I ever found that out in life. I don’t take drugs except for medicine that I need for my medical issues. I don’t smoke, but I’ll tell you when I see you smoking a cigar makes me wanna try one never got drunk in the military enough to where I could even get a tattoo And I like to ride horses I’m not very good at it but I’ve done it before but I really wish I could find a way to get to you guys and spend time on your ranch and learn to be what it’s like to be a man sometimes I feel there’s still time left in life, but when I look at my life, there’s less years remaining than there are what I’ve gone through and it’s scary but if you can think of any ideas, please let me know Thank you From scared and confused

Hi, I just stumbled across your channel. I'm from San Antonio. My van is having the same issues as well. I go on micro adventure around the parks in the area. I carry my tool box every where I go. Then visit my daughters place and help her with groceries and minor repairs around the apartment. Spend the night in a designated parking spot. It works out. I have progressive insurance and only commute one mile. Insurance is expensive here. I live in my 2005 Chevy Uplander .

It's tough when you're a younger man who had catastrophic injuries take the strength and toughness out of you. Before you were able to learn what the old men know. So you can easily fall into the bitterness of not getting to be what you once were... And also never being able to realize what you could have been even then.
@watcher13262 ай бұрын
I struggled with this a lot after watching it. A lot of unfair things happen to us all in this world. Easy to end up bitter. But it seems like we've all made our share of mistakes and have been helped by others, creating a debt. Teaching the youth, especially in today's complicated world, seems like the right thing to do. Hard to know which lessons would get you cancelled or what environment would be a good one to teach in (not a classroom for me). But overall, it seems like the right thing to do.

As a 23 year old who’s still trying to find his way I will say that this stage as of right now is crazy. Trying to find a purpose if you’ve never really had one is challenging. I’ve not been able to do a lot of things yet but I am attempting to push myself into new directions and finding more things so I can grow as a person and learn more. This world is very difficult to be able to grow. Wish I was on a farm tbh. I miss being free in the wilderness. Hoping to one day find my way back

Lots of excellent advice. At 73, I am certainly not able to do the physical tasks I once did with ease. But, I can still be of service. Volunteering with my local police department to take some citizen patrols, volunteering with my local county department of emergency management as a radio operator, seeing to it that I'm healthy enough to take good care of my wife should she need it and generally trying to simply be a good example for others. There's plenty of ways to contribute.

I have an older brother but he made my life hell in the time I needed him the most. Had a friend who I looked up to like a brother but he passed away. He wasn’t perfect and was a bad influence on me. But most importantly, he didn’t hurt me like my older brother did. My dad is my dad. He’s cool but at the time I needed him the most, he would rather be with his church friends and drink. His dad wasn’t in his life, so it affected my upbringing. He’s cool now. I’m now of age, leaving my 20s. This channel definitely gives me older brother advice I need. Wish I discovered this channel sooner. Idk if you’ll see this but thanks for life advice. I wish my older brother was like this. I can’t change that though. Tough luck.
