Portable fader review

Here's my portable fader collection along with my opinions on each. The collection include faders from Frisk Fader, Raiden, Jesse Dean, Stokyo Kutter, and Mix Fader. Just my opinions, I hope you find some of the information useful. Peace

Ave Mcree I haven't tried it yet... I just made the comment about it because I wish the focus was on improving the turntable (make it rechargeable, better platter, better tonearm/needle, start/stop, ultra pitch, improved speaker, etc.) instead of just adding the switch... I feel there are tons of dope options as far as faders go but turntable options are very limited in selection... Plus the switch takes up real estate to mount a fader if you wanted to use any of the various faders out on the market...

all of that would make the price jump heavy... the platter is fine. I've even scratched 10" vinyl on the pt01 scratch and it wasn't that bad granted that vinyl is heavier.. the tone arm is great... many 12" record players can't be slanted w/o the needle moving unless you on some technics which means you might as well not get the PT01 scratch if you want a full 12" military part built turntable. The needle could be better but again price point would subjective be higher.

Ave Mcree I disagree on the price jump argument... There are mods available online for start/stop buttons, ultra-pitch, and tonearms that accept different cartridges, etc.. These mods range between $20-$35... A larger company incorporating these upgrades in bulk could do it at a much cheaper price point... In regards to the platter, the HandyTrax (when in production) used to retail for $100 and has a better platter that the Numark PT series... I'm definitely not asking for a Technics type build as that would defeat the purpose of portablism, but I firmly believe that upgrades could be made to the turntable while keeping a reasonable price point... Not hating on Numark at all, Salute to them for the PT01-Scratch as it will definitely help the portablism scene grow but essentially what they did was put a $5 scratch switch on a $99 PT01-USB and added $30 to the price...

The MixFader can do almost everything the others do, as long as you have the edjing scratch app, an iphone/ipad, and a lighting adapter-- and you can use control vinyl to cut mp3s. Super innovative.

djshape11 Thanks for the feedback... I did see a couple people use them with portable setups but I haven't been able to try it myself because my HandyTrax is the non-USB version... Recently I've been seeing more and more videos pop up with people using the MixFader with portable setups so hopefully the popularity will make control vinyl more accessible... I have since purchased a PT-01 that has a USB connect and just need to get the wire and a control vinyl before I can try it myself... Salute...

👋 I got the pt01 and the Mixfader app and Mixfader crossfader. Problem is I bought it without the proline which Iv discovered a while back that is essential to the finished set up I need. I keep searching online and it’s sold out EVERYWHERE??? Anyone help me with this plzzzz

Nice! I hooked the JD fader to my guitar and did some new scratches 🎸🎚 S4S I’ll post more clips l8r. Like to network with DJ community more I tried the Raiden and Stokyo and they didn’t work on guitar. The JD was my only option and the cuts on both sides really added to the rhythms. Good review vid you inspired me to get the JD fader. It doesn’t work on clean only distortion. Clean it just pops lol yah it’s random nooone posted any vids online of them playing it on a guitar

Richard Williams Unfortunately I do not have any 7" control vinyl at this time... I also only have one PT-01 deck and a non-USB version of the HandyTrax so I would be unable to do a two deck setup... Just for information sakes, the only faders (shown in the video) that would work with a two deck setup would be the Stokyo Kutter, Raiden RXI-F1, and the MixFader... The Jesse Dean wouldn't be able to accommodate two decks due to the duel cutoff design and the original Raiden fader and Frisk Fader are only line Fader's without cross fader capabilities... Sorry that I couldn't provide the demo but I hope the info helps a little... Salute

thanks for the reply, yes, the Kutter would be my 1st choice for that reason. The Raiden with the innofader is great but much pricier and needs recharging and the Mixfader is actually the 1st portable fader that I had seen and may win for me as it is a midi device where all the others are basically analog like a tradition mixer, not a hybrid

Alfileer Depends what you're looking for and what you want to spend. But the Jesse Dean has a great (smooth/buttery) feel and a nice cut-in for scratching.

Thanks for the review, I just went out and bought a Kutter after watching lots of reviews including yours. I'm having a little issue, maybe someone here can help me. I plugged my phone into ch2 to play a beat, and the output is just way to quiet. I'm not sure it's the Kutter's fault. My phone plays quiet (compared to my friend's iPhone) when I plug it into the aux cord in my car too. Any ideas?

I just got my Kutter today and the first thing I noticed after plugging it in was the volume drop. I didn't really expect that but then I read some people writing about portable faders and it seems to be a thing with passive faders (correct me anyone if I'm wrong). For instance this guy is comparing active Raiden RXI-F1 to passive Jesse Dean JDDX2R and writes about super low volume without additional amplifying in case of Jesse Dean. www.reddit.com/r/Turntablists/comments/58cyyi/my_review_of_the_new_raiden_innofader_rxif1/ Also can anyone explain why volume drops with passive faders? I thought the basic principle is the same as with pots, ranging resistance from max to 0 where 0 means that all input just goes to output at the same level. What am I missing? Thanks.

DJ Dustmite The Frisk fader shown in the video is limited to only phone hookups, you can not midi map using Bluetooth to Traktor or Serato, it can only be hooked up using wires (and adaptors)... I hope this helps.

DJ Dustmite You’ll need to run a stereo aux cord from the Handytrax to the fader and from the fader to a speaker... And then to run a looper, you need to run a stereo aux cord from a phone (or audio source that is playing the beat) to the fader... Note: Aux cord = 3.5mm

if you had a choice of jesse dean or stokyo kutter which wuld u choose? more so used for cutting, wanting go replace my scratch switch wifh a proper fader but dnt hve the coin for the rxif1. I usually use a pioneer djm 900, s9, rane 62 or my djm250 wi th a mini innofader in it, so looking for something with a similiar feel. i thought that the raiden mk1 fader felt to plastic and i felt that if i was to rough on it, it may break lol.

Teban Balahay It would come down to personal preference to you... If you value a rail based fader then Jesse Dean would be the choice... It has a sturdier feel and is a bit smoother... But if you want more configurability and the ability to use it more like a traditional cross fader, then Stokyo Kutter would be the choice... I don't think you can go wrong with either fader,... I personally find myself reaching for the Stokyo Kutter more often these days... Might be because it's newer but I also value being able to isolate my cut sounds when I sweep the fader all the way over and cut off the looper... I hope this helps...

Kevin Mena The Stokyo Kutter is by far better in my opinion... The first gen Raiden was a good start point and an upgrade over the original Frisk Fader but it is only a line fader while the Stokyo Kutter is a legit cross fader with multiple configurations... It is also as smooth, if not smoother than the original Raiden fader... I feel you can't go wrong with the Stokyo Kutter, especially at it's price point, unless you can't live without a rail system based fader (in that case you would want to look at the Jesse Dean or Raiden RXI-F1)... Hope this helps... Salute
