Hitch or Chain your winch to anything. Swivels to pull straight, give longest cable life, and maximum pulling force.
2000lb winch I have: amzn.to/3dHOd4j
Evolution Metal Circular Saw w/3yr warranty: amzn.to/2QR3Mgv
Extra Steel cutting 7-1/4 blades: amzn.to/3dInUuQ
Evolution Mag Drill LARGE w/3yr warranty: amzn.to/2UKLqis
Evolution Mag Drill MEDIUM w/3yr warranty: amzn.to/2Rcqekv
Annular Cutters: amzn.to/3bDQyvy
Links above are all items I own and trust spending my hard earned money on. They are affiliate links that may benefit me and help me sustain the channel with a few pennies, if you purchase something.
Synthetic Winch Cable Rope Thoughts: I haven't used it enough to warrant recommending it. I don't like the non roller fairlead and will clean up/reinstall the original roller fairlead that came with the winch. The rope is lightweight and flexible but seams fragile if you allow it to rub on something. This is the rope I bought www.harborfreight.com/atvutv-... HOWEVER there are cheaper options on Amazon without the fairlead/hook as you can reuse those: amzn.to/2ylb5qm

Great idea, we think alike. Only difference is I bought a receiver with stacked receiver tubes so if I have a trailer hooked up I can use the top tube for my winch. I didn't think about the swivel action so I'll definitely use your swivel set up. My thoughts were pulling onto a car trailer or tow dolley when working alone. Came across your video by accident but glad I did. Thanks for the idea/ info. Jack Leonard

Great idea for a project. Years ago i had a winch, smaller than this, but it had a similar set up. Instead of having the receiver mounted, it had a large hole that you could drop over the trailer ball. Pretty handy. It burned out and i couldn’t source parts but i kept the mount. I have a big 10k lb winch now. Overkill. But i only gave $150 for it.

I combined this swivel mount, but with your other video of the drill powered hand winch. So now I can winch from all angles with the battery powered drill. I can also take the winch off, and bolt on a vise, or my mini tire changer. I have a 12v winch hooked up in my truck bed at all times, but this swivel mount is the bees knees for odd angles, and being that it's portable, you can do all kinds of stuff with it! Thanks man!

That's awesome. I think these small winches pull around 10amps under light load and 50amps stall at 12volts. A typical 18v/20v battery pack is going to put out 30amp at 18volts nominal. So more than enough amperes to handle the load. The higher voltage would be hard on the winch if you ran it for a really long time, but winching is a quick job. Nice idea.

@@iancameron198 I've been switching over to rope. Why? Lighter and easier to move around. Biggest issue is they aren't abrasion resistant though and it still makes me nervous that they're going to break when I need it. I will say though I was using a cable come-a-long week and a half ago and I stabbed myself so bad with a stray wire on the cable that I swore I hated cables but I don't know.

I like your setup! I've been using a Warn drill winch for about the same thing for a few years now and it gotten me out of several jams up in the woods. Great for pulling logs around too. However, at only 750lbs of pull I have to rig three snatch blocks in order to enough pull to get the job done at times. Three times the pull equals three times slower, which can make a lot more work out of a self-recovery. So, I've been thinking about putting together something like you did here. I'll probably go with a 3500lbs winch, which is still light enough to pack into the woods a little ways, or move it to the front of our rig and attach it to a recovery hook with a short tree saver type strap.

Nice set up. I basically did the same thing with a worm drive hand winch I had. You can drive it with a cordless drill. No 50 lb battery to lug around. If I might point out, it looks like you might have set the fairlead too high. At 13:00 The fairlead looks like it is rubbing pretty hard against the rope. I see it is probably on the 3rd or forth wrap, but if you set the fairlead as low as possible so it just barely clears the cable on the first wrap, it should give you about 3 or 4 wraps before it starts rubbing hard on the other end. Also consider cutting off 1/3 of the rope and make a winch extender out of it. You won’t have to pull so much line out to get to the bottom wrap and if you have a long reach, you can always use your extender.

Used HF trailer coupler for 3" channel trailer tongue, drilled appropriate bolt pattern into top flat of coupler, mounted HF 2500# winch with matching fairlead mount. Be sure bolt pattern allows for clearance of the coupler handle. Control box mounted underneath the coupler, where the 3" channel would bolt. QD Anderson electrical connector, 12V battery in plastic battery box completes the system. Now can use winch from any 2" ball hitch. Rotates horizontally with some vertical alignment for very straight pulls. Use old 2" ball mount with chain around thread ball mount for chain to go around post, tree, etc for other applications. Easy Peasy. Use with HF dual hitch extender to hitch trailer to Jeep and also mount winch for loading trailer.

Awesome idea! Patent that thing before someone else does!!! My only concern would be a heavy pull at a high up or down angle. The plate would bend at the nut. Maybe up the plate to 3/8 or 1/2 inch. Bigger plate and a bigger winch for the heavy duty stuff. Some idiot out there would probably try to pull an 80 year old oak tree down with it 😂.

The lady at Pawn Mart use to call me when tools came in that she didn't know what they were. About a year ago a mag drill like yours came in. The model and such were torn off except for the brand name. She gave me first dibs on it but I told her I'd wait and see if it sat and the price came down more. It sat for a couple hours she said. I really messed up on that one. It had a set of saws from about 3/4" to around 2" with it. It was about half the weight of a Milwaukee mag drill. She has given me some seriously great deals on other stuff like small engine stuff from other stores that had sat until all tires were flat and gas had rotted , because I would go and get her stuff running again. But for truck and trailer frames those lite mag drills are the bomb.

A saw for lefties, like a worm-drive is actually perfect for right-handers. I have a Porter Cable left, and I can look right down to my saw tip without making like Quasimodo. I had 2 recievers on my E-150...I had planned on doing the same thing...until my engine blew.

I made something like this. 12,000lb winch. Heavy as one can get. Great for pulling tractors and trucks out of stuck situations. Total overkill. Love your idea of a swivel. I welded a 2" receiver to the bucket of one of the tractors.

12k, that's some serious pull.

@@sixtyfiveford yeah. I didn't want to worry about the steel cable snapping. When they break other stuff breaks with it. I figure with that kind of pull something else will give up long before the cable.

@@concert610 I've always hated moving around the thick cable on bigger winches. This new synthetic cable may make me want to pick up a 10k or similar.

@@sixtyfiveford this is my first winch and I will agree with you. The winch is heavy and the cable is heavy. Very annoying to say the least. I have thought about synthetic but I don't use the winch much. I would get more use out of longer electrical cables.

@@concert610 I have a 13k lb winch I got off Amazon. Pretty awesome. I saw a 17k lb one on there too, but I don't remember the brand. I pulled a tree over with mine, vid is on my channel. Used it yesterday to pull up fence posts.😁

Handy! As far as keeping the winch in line with the pull, it might also help to have the fairlead some distance from the drum. But you don’t really want to make it longer. Nice setup.
