Many years ago my dad was so proud to get his certificate for doing all 50 states confirmed on cw. Quite an accomplishment for someone who was mostly blind.

25:36 “I love this.” Amen. Nothing in this hobby brings me greater satisfaction than QSOs on the KH1 + whip. It’s truly the cw enthusiast’s radio.

Thomas, thank you for more KH1 content. Never fails to impress me with its capability. My KH1 will be back tomorrow, just in time for the freezing weather in the upstate 😂 N4DJC

Thomas, you could consider the idea of installing "smart logger" on your smartphone, which manages the pota without having to write on a paper notepad, then you send the log to the pota and import the links into your general log Happy New Year, 73.

Same here! I enjoy walking around the field with my KH1 hunting parks, having an occasional extended ragchew, and even (rarely but not impossible) working a DX station.

@@WilliamParmley what is this you speak of? Serious question

@@wallheadkdir Hi! I'd be happy to reply, but could you clarify your question further, please? I'm not sure if you're asking about the KH1, "hunting parks," ragchewing, DX, or...?
@wallheadkdir4 күн бұрын
@WilliamParmley really its the whole thing. What are you doing? What's a KH1 for? Hunting in the parks for a signal for what exactly? Is this all for fun or is this an actual usable skill???

@@wallheadkdir Well, it would take hours and thousands of words to explain Amateur Radio, but here's a little info. As codified in 47CRF97, the Amateur Radio Service is "A radio communication service for the purpose of self-training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried out by amateurs, that is, duly authorized persons interested in radio technique solely with a personal aim and without pecuniary interest." We often build our own radio equipment, and communicate on frequencies ranging from LF to the microwaves, including communication by amateur built telecommunication satellites. Although authorized to transmit with power up to 1500 watts, some Radio Amateurs enjoy making contacts among themselves using very low power equipment, such as the KH1 transceiver. Continued...

Part 2.... One advantage of very low power equipment is the ability to carry it into the field and make contacts. One very popular activity is called Parks on the Air (POTA) in which Radio Amateurs go to official state and national parks and other public lands. The challenges are how many parks can you operate from, and how many parks can you make contacts with. There are various awards to be collected. Continued...

Would love a Elecraft KH1 but they are not shipping to the UK :(

You can legitimately buy them now as a "kit" direct from Elecraft. I was lucky enough to get the first KH1 in Europe over a year ago!

Is this the same as when I was a kid my friends parents had a very nice CB radio setup in the living room that was on 24/7 and we would pick it up and say " breaker,breaker 9" and be tickled pink if someone would answer????
@nine72953 күн бұрын
@@wallheadkdir yes, except this radio is 10 times the cost of a typical CB radio though. (Over $1,000 USD full package.)
