Portal Airboat% Speedrun in

This is a speedrun of Portal Airboat%, a speedrun category where you have to beat the game without using any portals, and instead use airboats through the console command "ch_createairboat," which is not protected by sv_cheats.

This category is very unfun to grind for a good time. Airboat boosts are completely random. This run had a pretty awful 19/e00 but a great e01/e02. Also I've never gotten a boost like that in chamber 12 lol. 12:xx is probably possible on an insane run.

iirc the airboat cheat can be done without sv_cheats 1, making it technically not a cheat, so people joked about using it to skip the relaxation vault and it escalated into a category

This is awesome, even better is that this can technically be further optimized (probably). Wonder how ridiculous one could get with the help of a TAS for laser-accurate airboat deployments and flings. Spectacular video!

fun fact, the chamber at 2:13 you can softlock inside and glados will give you some recycled dialogue from near the ending of the game and just complete the test for you if you do it, that's what glados tried to do when the airboat spawned in the wall before she moves on to "as part of a required test protocol"

Saving and loading is generally allowed in speedruns as long as the timer stays running. You don't see a lot of it in many record speedruns because at that level of competition a reload generally means a dead attempt, but it comes up in races, events like AGDQ, speedruns with a lot of unpredictability (like this video), and very long speedruns (24 hours+). In some cases saving and loading is used to save time. When you load a save in a temple in Zelda, it puts you at the entrance. Sometimes saving and loading is a faster way to get out of a temple than walking.

I would guess that the buttons are scripted to respond to the player or cubes and not physically to weight.
