The airboat% category was discovered/optimized by a runner named 097aceofspades, or ConnorAce. I neglected to mention this in the video due to the runner's status regarding cheating in speedrunning (in other games, as well as Portal), but this speedrun category would not exist without his efforts.
This video is not an actual speedrun world record, nor a speedrun tutorial. This video is a showcase of a speedrun strategy that goes in-depth to the various tricks, glitches and bugs that make the strategy possible.

It's worth noting that portal was originally sold as part of a bundle (the "orange box") including HL2 and steam allowed assets to be shared between games. So there would have been little reason to remove the HL2 assets from portal.

@@sugoha_2548 not realy, portal is itsown file, it isnt under hl2, but in portal file there is a hl2 folder which contains some hl2 models, you dont even need hl2 installed to play hl2 maps, you just neet to get hl2 maps and copy them into the maps folder in portal

You can also get all the weapons from Half-Life 2, including the Gravity Gun, with the cheat "impulse 101". In fact, you can even play Half-Life 2 with the portal gun by loading up the appropriate maps with the console - they're still all included, last I knew.

If I had to guess why the hazard liquid in Portal still hurts the player when in an airboat, I'd say it's most likely because the toxic slime in hl2 has the surface of the trigger_hurt slightly below the surface, while the hazard liquid in Portal has the trigger and the water take up the same area, which means that the surface of the water and the surface of the trigger is at the same level.

Great video! Out of curiosity, have you ever considered talking about actual least portal runs in either game? I think portal 2 lp could make for a great video considering how much has been cut down over the years and how it continues to evolve. Granted, you couldn't talk about the whole run in a video, but looking at individual chambers could be really cool! specifically test and neurotoxin sabotage would be neat in my opinion.
