I love how their instrument playing doesn't really seem inspired by anything, its like they just picked them up, so natural and untouched, It's less death metal and more like some fucked up drum circle from a cult in another dimension.

They were definitely influenced (according to Horror Illogium) by specific bands, like Death and Beherit iirc, that had that dissonant sound going on, but I could be wrong, it was ages ago when I read the interview. But I agree they took that sound and swayed it literally to another, mightily fucked new level. I don't think many metal bands touch me as deeply as Portal lol

Swarth - Bogner Triple Giant thru Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 (ABY Pedal) mixed with a Peavey 6505. I like to have the mids & highs of the Bogner at around 1 or 2 O'clock, and the Lows at 1 O'clock, exclusively thru the Sharp Gain channel. The 6505 was used to fill out the tone with more dirt and fatness.
