This is just the producer's mindset. This is literally just how we think. Idk man, I've got hundreds of projects I need to delete because they'll never develop fully. The chord progression. Chords are labeled with numbers to make progressions more generalizable i.e. independent of the key. So in the key of C, 1365 would be C, Em, Am, G (each number is assigned to the degree of the scale C D E F G A B). In D major, 1365 would be D, F#m, Bm, A. hope that made sense :)

​@@flankz2950 Decimals aren't a thing in chord progression. Each scale has 7 notes that go upwards in sequence. If you went from C to Db/C# you just aren't following the scale. It might even sound bad or dissonant which is why scales exist to not sound bad or dissonant. If you think of music theory as story telling then it makes more sense (to me at least) Start with your root note, let's say C for argument sake. Then you follow the journey the note takes on. If it's a happy story (Like Porter's song) it'll be major key so it's gonna go up in the scale (C - Eb - Bb - Ab) [1365] Likewise sad songs tend to go downwards in scale from the root. Also progressions don't have to start with the note that's the key of the song tostart the sequence. It gets a lot deeper than I'm explaining now but I'm self-taught and tired so you might want to do more research into this if it interests you.
