If you need a custom portfolio to everywhere you apply to, does that mean you can only apply to just a couple (ie: maybe 3-5) places at once? What happens if you get rejected by all the places you want to apply to?

Thanks that was very informative. I have one question as a industrial design grad who is into transportation design department. Knowing how to use 3ds Max and Alias and solidworks too, if I model a car in Alias since it's Nurbs and quality surfacing for concept work development and simulation, I've been told that the project will then be moved into catia or any software engineers use to add thickness on the body parts I made in Alias to be ready for production like producing steel tooling for pressing.. so my question is, do I have to know Catia and other engineering advanced softwares? Or should I just stick to A class surfacing in Alias then they will handle the rest of the job?
@BerkKaplanDesigner4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken, I'm glad you like! In car design studios you will not need engineering softwares. You will also not need to do A Class Alias model. There are Alias modelers to do that. You need to know alias on medium level to create sketch model of your design. And today, polygonal modeling is getting popular again to put ideas in 3d quicker as 3dmax or Blender.

Is it must to be good at Autodesk Alias to be Car Designer or is that left to 3D Modelling specialist. I noticed from other YT videos that there are clay modellers and 3D designers and then Exterior& Interior designers. Say for example I wanted to be Exterior & Interior designer, If I apply to design course lol my weakness is 3D modelling on Alias/Blender etc clay modelling doesn't scare me lol I bring this up because in the course I want to apply for there are elements of both for the final year project, but what I wanted to know is after you go into the industry to do you specialise in department. By the way thank you Berk your channel/IG page is excellent starting point for somebody considering this industry. I posted this message because I forwarded my portfolio to the school with 0 car design work and I am waiting for reply. I did art & design course but I only decided to go down this path because I recently got my driving license, I would be lying to you if I said I was into car design since I was 10 years old.
@BerkKaplanDesigner4 жыл бұрын
Hey Abdi, thanks for your comment! You dont have to be expert on 3D as you said there are specialists to do that. But you need to know certain level 3D to communicate with them better + understand 3D. So it is better to improve yourself as much as possible. How are your car sketches? Did you download my car design sketch reference-tutorial pack? I would like to see your sketches on them! Good luck man!

He meant you have to put (feed) on your portfolio constructed projects instead of random sketches. (Show your way of resolving a design problem while using your skills, instead of just flexing your hard skills such as drawing cars) He's just using food as the verb.
