Haven't had whiskey for a long long time. Sitting in my little house, rural Sweden, snowy winter. Listening to the songs I loved back then. Sipping irish gold. The heartache is like an avalanche. Blessings to all lovers of beauty and truth. "We have a war to fight".

I sometimes wonder if anyone from 2023/2024 reaches back to look at and listen to music from the past to see if they are improving on things or not. Then I listen to contemporary radio and I realize "no"....I actually lived through the final moment of good and genuine music.
@DerMeisterEdits5 ай бұрын
There's plenty of good modern music. It's just not on the radio. The radio only pushes safe, commercially acceptable songs, and they've always done that. Even Billie Holiday had to deal with it.
@neologian17835 ай бұрын
@@DerMeisterEdits You're completely 100% right of course. And it should go without saying that practically every generation reserves the right to feel nostalgia for their own musical era and so commenting the way I did is a bit of a cliche and something of a mistake.

This song touched me in a way no music ever before (and after) has touched me. It was like someone was able to see into my soul. It never made me sad, it just touches me so deeply that it makes me feel accepted, because there are other humans out there who feel the same as I do. What a fantastic piece of music history.

Thank you Portishead for this timeless piece. This song is intrinsically connected to my soul. It's meaning grows more profound each year. Beth Gibbons collects the pain from all of the atrocities occurring throughout our world and drops me in the middle of the vortex. I struggle to look out at the world, so Beth brings the world to me with this song, and I loop it for hours most evenings. Her angelic voice makes the pain beautiful as she exposes what this world has become, and enlightenment gives us hope. Can't anybody see? Can't anybody feel? 🦋 ❤

Lucky. I somehow managed to totally miss this during those "wilderness years", only finding out about it in the run-up to seeing them ahead of Third's release. Romance my fave off that album. Did get to meet her as such at that pre-Third holiday camp weekender - well, witness her struggle with a brolly during a gust of wind; my hand went to my pocket to grab my phone for a snap but it felt cruel capturing the little old lady's struggle, so I let the moment pass. Got rewarded with much better experiences with her at a later weekender (a well-timed reach over obscuring bodies for a handshake mid-extended We Carry On) and then even better than that at a festival (helping her to stage dive!!!).

I’m 27 and absolutely tired of all modern sound. ‘Tired’ isn’t even the right word, today’s music drains me of all of my energy. When I want to feel, to be inspired, find the will to go on - I always go back in time, and every single time it’s like some sort of revelation. I fall in love with the human race, because I’m reminded that we can also create so much beauty, we’re full of life and love and simply want someone to share it with. I wish more people would be reminded of this, and I wish that nowadays more artists would use their musical talent for good. But alas, these are the times we live in, and we must keep fighting.
