I always struggle with a good way to package shoes. In this video, I open and compare eight different shoe packages from eight different Poshmark sellers.
My other Poshmark packaging video: • Poshmark Packaging: Co...
My Poshmark Closet: DressedByAmber. If downloading Poshmark for the first time, use the code DressedByAmber and you will get $5 off your first purchase.
Closets I purchased from in this video:
Lucky Brand flats-Bookishnely
Aldo sneakers-Cekiser
Black flats with tassels-NiftySavvySaver
Black and gray Sanuk sandals-5reddens
Franco Sarto ankle tie heels-Debra0624
Franco Sarto loafers-vanne760w
Asics Running Shoes-ashleysol
Size 12 taupe boots-keisha0890
Thanks for watching!

When you shop at department stores they don't wrap your items, place them in a bag neatly or give you a hand written thank you note. Actually, in LA you get charged for a bag. So why expect so much from a person with limited funds?! As long as the item looks like exactly like the picture I wouldn't complain.

I foof it up for my pleasure. And to be honest, I love it when someone takes the time to do a little some'n some'n. At department stores, you get to see what you're buying, it's brand new and can return if they don't fit. Not so, Poshmark. And how many times have I been ripped off by low-income sellers who jack up the prices on things I could get at a yard sale for a quarter. It ruins it for the great sellers cuz I don't buy as much. Just keepin' it real.

This is a really neat method of market research! This was a learning experience for me. I thought I was being extra by caring so much about the presentation of the shipping and the "unboxing" experience, but NOW, I feel much better. I am in awe that people would send packages with such a messy appearance. Whether it's true or not, it makes the buyer think that you don't care. :-(

When I buy something I don’t expect it to be wrapped and tied with twine. I don’t expect a thank you note. That doesn’t happen when you purchase from a retail store so why expect it from Poshmark sellers. I’m buying the item not the wrapping. More importantly it all just gets thrown away so to me that’s just wasteful. Just my opinion.

Poshmark has some dos and don'ts of what they call posh etiquette, and they recommend for sellers to take time to personalize sales with tissue paper, handwritten notes and ribbon prior to shipping.

What you say is true, but as a very very very small time seller, I have time to put some effort into my packaging. I’m finding it fun so that’s why am doing it. I like color coordinating my tissue paper LOL. I’m also doing thank you cards although when I run out of those maybe I’ll stop. Again, I’m just having fun with the experience for now. I do and will continue to wrap items in plastic if I am shipping them in a box. I don’t want to risk water damage to something. Until there’s a better alternative to plastic I am just going to have to keep using it. I figure people who receive items wrapped in these plastic bags can reuse them.

I have a friend that uses fabric to wrap the shoes.... it looks great and you can use a cutting wheel to cut it quickly to size. Also, taking freshly cleaned clothing cutting it into large patches to wrap will work too. Most of the cloths we donate are just sent to bin stores and then bundled up for rags. You can also use wallpaper, gift wrapping paper, or rolls of butcher paper. I used to take stamps with paper bags and stamp fish for men and butterflies for girls and wrap each item in these. It looked really pretty and very crafty. I also use twine to keep everything stable for shipping. Egg cartons work great to keep items in the center of the box that are breakable. Thank You, I will be watching the rest of your videos...

If you're selling you should package something that looks professional. What some call excessive packaging I call trying to keep items looking nice while in transit & showing you care about the whole experience not just the money. The bags with the suffocation notice is a great idea. There are several places you can buy those from including Uline & Amazon. I absolutely hate getting packages that people just "throw" the item(s) in the box or try to cram into a small bubble envelope. I try to put things in plastic bags to protect them from the weather if the packaging gets wet or damaged. Plastic & paper can be recycled & sometimes reused.

Hi! I skimmed through the comments but didn't read all of them. Something I do that may help you. All those bubble pillows you get in Amazon boxes and what not. Save them! I do re-purpose any bubble wrap I get. I put those inside the shoes to keeps them from collapsing. Then wrap in tissue, then a poly mailer. I have gotten rave remarks on shoes packaging. Those worrying about too much packaging - you can reuse some stuff whenever possible. BUT USPS does leave boxes in the rain sometimes and (true story) 1 PFF had what looked like milkshake leaked all over her stuff. It was nasty. So no matter what - you should always have a plastic protection layer.

Carol Salkind I have this thought every time I pack up a sale. :/ I've thought about just putting them in a ziploc bag and then adding a note saying that i didnt use tissue paper because it will just be thrown away but they can reuse the ziploc bag and it protects the item from possible water damage on the trip in the mail. I wonder if there are any sellers out there that have found a good middle ground to this dilemma.

I don't use tissue for the fact that will throw it away. Also, I just started reselling and where I work, I get to reuse bubble wrap, plastic bags and boxes all for free! Why buy colored tissue? That's my thought. As long as my items don't smell and arrive as discribed, and I include a note and a little something, it's okay. I package my items the way I would want an item I order to arrive.

AmberMontana I have bought some really cute polymailers on Amazon that I use to "wrap" my items...but instead of sealing them I tie them with ribbon or twine and include a note that says "please feel free to use this polymailer to sell something from your own closet. Thanks for recycling and helping the environment". It's kind of a win-win. And it makes packing really easy!

Hi, good idea for a video! The outer plastic wrap is a polymailer. I buy a lot of clothes online and have receive orders in these most of the time. I try to reuse them for shipping if they are in good shape. I have also sold lots of my daugher's clothing before actively selling on Poshmark, so have bought them because you can get cute prints and they are so quick and easy. In response to a comment above about plastic: I try to reuse and recycle as much as possible, but know the mail system can be hard on boxes. When I use a box, I also try to bag in plastic to help ensure the product won't be damaged by moisture, etc. If there is a better alternative, I'd love to learn more about it, but hoping my customers might reuse as well.

@AmberMontana Great video I started selling on Poshmark alittle over a year ago, I have to say I purchase just as much as I sell lol, that's a whole other video. But I was just telling my friend another seller, when I purchase something and I'm very excited to get and it might sound childish but get upset when people just throw the item in the box, example today I got 4 boxes 2 of them were just thrown in box no note nothing, the other 2 were carelessly wrapped with paper my feeling is doesn't take long to put alittle effort into it. I personally wrap item in white, or pretty colored tissue paper, put ribbon around it. Write a card to thank them, and I always add alittle gift on top of package, doesn't have to be expensive just thoughtful. This is my job now that I'm a emptynester and Iove to shop. And would love for them to come back to my closet again. Again Thank you @lvandermaas that's my closet name.

What percentage of your customers are repeat and have any said they are repeat because of your packaging? I do little extras as well but my main return customers are because of bundle pricing and I will specifically source items based on knowing something I found is exactly the thing customer X wants. I do wrap in tissue, have a business card that I write a personal thanks on back and have extras for higher priced items but I really do not think any of that has an effect on repeat business.

If you don't mind the opinion of a Seller and Buyer on this site... Poshmark is supposed to be a unique buying experience and chance for the everyday person to build a brand for themselves, also provide an intimate shopping experience for fashionistas with the possibility to score a great deal. As a seller I believe in providing a convenience, delivering excellent customer service, and ultimately showing gratitude in every aspect of each transaction. If I sold shoes I would place them in a shoe box with each shoe wrapped in tissue paper individually and include a thank you note. Poshmark is wonderful because you can communicate directly with your customers, I let mine know how it comes packaged and if they would like it other wise I would provide it. As a buyer I want the full experience that Poshmark offers, I utilize the bundle feature and I let the seller know what I am expecting so that there is no surprises. I personally will never buy from anyone who can't put effort into proper packaging. I just feel there are better apps for people who don't care for packaging.

ABSOLUTELY, this is why is POSHmark. Every step must be Posh! There are other platforms that don't pride themselves in every aspect. We pay a very steep commission to keep things better than the rest. Take pride in what you sell, and will probably have repeat sales... that's the bottom line. With items traveling through rain, sleet, snow, and postal workers that have literally stepped on my boxes, am I glad that the seller had wrapped up merchandise in plastic. One box arrived sans a whole corner... and had it not been for the careful seller, I would have lost jewelry in transit. Recycle, reuse and reduce does not equal throwing items in a box and NO THANK YOU NOTE??? Rude 🤪🤪🤪

Late to your video but I've been selling for years and always use a zip lock bag and white tissue or paper. This combo works well if the package gets wet. Smaller sized shoes often fit into a padded flat rate mailer so that works too. That pink tissue in an unsealed plastic bag looked pretty but man it offered no protection. I once got a blouse wrapped in colored tissue and it got damp and it turned into tie dye so I've never used colored tissue.

Great Great video!!! I have only recently started selling on Poshmark. Have been selling on eBay and I "kinda" specialize in shoes. I've toyed a lot with shipping certain types of shoes as they are all different shapes and sizes. I haven't gotten around to the "pretty" packaging on Posh yet...lol...mainly b/c I'm a guy and that's something I have to learn. I ship mostly in priority shoe boxes for probably 95 percent of my shipments. I learned that the main thing for me to focus on is making sure the shoes get to their buyer in the same condition as described and photographed. With that said, for eBay, I always put shipping cushion in the bottom of the box, then wrap each shoe individually in those clear wastebasket bags and leave a good bit of air in it and then tie it. That way, the shoes have room to move without getting crushed...like say a nice women's strappy sandal. Then I include a packing slip and top the box off with another piece of shipping cushion. A lot of sellers would say that is way too much weight, but it's really not and I've never had a damage claim. I really just put myself in the buyer's "shoes" and package the way I'd want to receive it. On Posh, I package the same way and include a note. I just always think the buyer is paying for the product rather than the pretty package, BUT I do understand that a lot of buyers will return based on the whole experience. So that's why I watched this video. I need to get some pink tissue paper now...LOL. Keep up the great content. Appreciate you!

Sounds like you have a lot of experience shipping shoes. Question for you: how do you ship cowboy boots? This has been an issue for me on poshmark: finding a priority box big enough to fit cowboy shoes well. Do you stuff the inside of the boots/ships when you ship?
@electracousticcinema
@electracousticcinema 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't sold any boots on Posh but I have on eBay. It's pretty much the same I suppose. For the women's boots that are smaller, you can generally modify a USPS 1095 Priority Box with just a few simple scores of a straight blade. Basically, you lay the 1095 flat where the flaps are on the right side, then measure over about 3 inches to the left from the slit in the flap and score it. Then flip it over and do the exact same thing on the other side. Then using the score marks, just mold the box into a bigger size. You'll get the idea once you see it in person. But yes, I do stuff the boot with craft paper to make sure it keeps its shape. Again that adds to weight but it's certainly worth the expense on a $150 pair of boots. And I will always make sure they can't shift around too much. This also depends on how far they are going. If I know a shoe is going overseas, but the buyer is using a US transfer company (which is where I'm shipping to - Portland, OR or San Diego, etc), I'll take extra caution because this box is probably gonna be a mess when it arrives in Tinbukto. I don't ship overseas right now, but I should. For larger boots with a much higher (or taller) shaft, you basically have to get a box that works and use priority labeling for Posh. I know with eBay, you don't have to use priority. Ebay has boxes that are great for boots. They are size 16x12x8. They cost about a buck a piece but that's cheap than what you get at Wally. So if you're shipping a lot of boots, getting bulk boxes would be a better option. But if you're shipping maybe one or two a month, you might just pick up one when you need it for cash flow purposes. You basically take a 16x12x8 and carefully package your boots like you would in any other shoe box (where the boots are laying opposite directions in the box). Again, I stuff the boots to hold shape, cushion the bottom of the box, carefully get your boots in the box (like arranging a flower bouquet), top it off with more cushion, and then score the box like you did the 1095 and fold the flaps over and seal it. But on Posh, don't forget to put some pink or blue tissue paper, a handwritten card, gold string tied into a bow, some chocolates, a gift card to Starbucks, etc...HAHAHA...Just kidding. Just make it work for you and use your instincts...you're gutsy so I'm certain your boot packages will rock. Oh one more thing...let's say you have a pair of new with box shoes and you're wanting to ship them priority for Posh or Ebay (you may know this already), you can use the modified 1095 for that. If my shoes won't fit in a regular priority shoe box, I modify the 1095 and the whole thing will fit inside the modified 1095. I have some photos of how I modify the 1095 if you want to see how I do it. Let me know and good luck. P.S. DO. NOT. CUT. YOUR. FINGER. This is my disclaimer and if you tell anyone you cut your finger using this method, I'll deny telling you how to do it. :)

i use the bread bags from walmart to package up everything that will fit (i tape closed and write an individual item number for the item on every bag so things are easier to find when shipping, no item number is ever re-used, i started with #1 and just kept going)...i have also bought bigger clear bags from amazon and bigger polybags from amazon for much larger items. i always double bag things (put in clear bag and then in a polymailer or box to mail)...i do NOT use tissue paper (the colored ones bleed if they get wet)...i will use bubble wrap on shoes so that they wont damage each other even when they are wrapped individually. i make sure the boxes have no empty space so i either cut them down or add kraft paper to fill in the spaces or the boxes can get crushed which can damage the items (i have worked in shipping and receiving for years and pack the way i was always taught and i use to work for the postal service so i have see what can happen to packages that werent done "correctly"). with ebay and other sites i print a packing slip and write a thank you note at the bottom...with poshmark i copy mailing info and item info and hand write a thank you note at the bottom. i use a lot of usps priority supplies, my free ebay supplies, and i also buy polymailers on amazon...i do not reuse very much stuff (just bubble wrap, packing peanuts, kraft paper from my wholesale orders)...i was always taught that you dont re-use stuff (boxes, polymailers) to send stuff to your customers...only use that to send stuff to friends...i consider myself a business and want to look professional.

I just use a padded flat rate envelope if they fit... no complaints yet. If they don't fit I just bubble wrap and throw them in a polybag. Easiest way I've found to do it. And omg the cut up priority box.... so bad, hopefully they realize they can't do that. Usps could send them back or make the recipient pay extra.

NEW SUBBIE!!! After a 70+ pound weight loss, I had to completely replace ALL of my clothing items, including shoes/boots, belts, etc (and undergarments). So for the last 8-9 months, I've been receiving items (mostly from Poshmark and Mercari) several times a week, and one day I opened 8 boxes that all showed up on the same day!!! As a buyer...on one hand I love to see professional, beautifully wrapped items, but on the other hand I'm left with SOOO MUCH TRASH it's ridiculous! I'm going to start selling soon, so I've saved as much as I can to re-use. This includes the twine or ribbon tied around items, tissue paper (if it's wrinkled I'll use it to fill up extra room in a box), and even the little tulle baggies jewelry sometimes comes in. I love when stuff is put in a ziplock bag, so I can reuse those for a lot of other things. I HATE getting an item (especially shoes) that is not wrapped at all. One time I received a box and the necklace that was part of my bundle was half hanging out of the box! Thank goodness it got stuck to the packing tape or it would have fallen out. I'm surprised no one stole it! Anyway... I enjoy your informative videos! They will really help me once I finally get started listing my 250-300 items!!! That might not sound like a lot to you, but to me it's overwhelming. LOL Thank you for a great video!!! 😁😁😁

Amber Resells - If I had someone to list the bulk of my stuff, I'd split the profit with them for sure! I'm letting summer get away from me and I have a lot of cute summer maxi dresses, etc I should list first. It's all the measuring and picture taking I know will take a lot of time and Poshmark is so competitive! I think I'm stressing myself out by overthinking it. But I do have SO MUCH since I literally replaced everything including shoes/boots...I never dreamed I'd lose weight in my feet but I did! LOL My weight loss came as a result of my chronic illness I developed a couple of years ago. I needed to lose 50 from having a freak accident in 2009 and the 3 surgeries that followed. I kept eating and drinking like I was still active, but I was either in a wheelchair or on crutches! LOL Sorry...another long comment. I honestly don’t care much about how my Poshmark items are packaged as far as presentation goes. Arriving as described and not mauled by USPS is all I ask. Tissue paper and thank you notes other than a quick glance just go in the trash. When I mail out, I put the items in a plastic bag, wrap with two pieces of tissue paper, place a thank you sticker on the outside and place in a poly mailer. I may switch to no tissue paper shortly...

Just found you and Subscribed I love this videos I wondered how other seller pack stuff. Ive been selling for a year and just ordered my first bundle and it was horrible! It showed up 3 pairs of shorts (1 wrong brand and crotch marks so they were not clean, 1 wrong color and hairy after pics are on a wood floor so who knows where it came from) in a pink poly...no clear bag..no card nothing. I was so disappointed! She did cancel the order and let me keep but still eww. Those clear bags are bread bags and come over 100 for 3 bucks! I have put my stuff in them since the beginning and EVERYTHING no matter the cost now I order poly bags and I'm not a huge seller. It made me realize how important appearance is and how it makes someone feel. I was shocked because her store looked so proper I was expecting something more professional. If you going to take the time to take pretty pictures, they should package same way. I wear a size 9-10 so I totally get the hard to find shoes and big feet :) I actually look for biggest I can find for my closet since most store will order 50 size 7-8 but 3 size 11 or 12.
