I agree with most of the tips. Very clearly delivered. The only thing I would caution against is removing the labels on cleaning supplies. Those are typically kept hidden away, not on display. They provide important information and safety precautions. It can also be haphazard if the wrong cleaner is used on the wrong finish, which can cause damage, and it can also be dangerous for the person if they think the bottle contains vinegar but is actually bleach, etc. For this tip, I don't think it's worth the risk when it comes to cleaning supplies.

I definitely agree with the safety aspect, but wouldn’t most products be kept in place is not seen to begin with? That’s making the removal of labels unnecessary? If, for some reason someone is determined to remove labels from cleaning products - I would strongly urge them to take a photo of the products with the labels on *before* taking them off - at least they’ll have a record of each product & its full label w/o guessing or scrambling to find out which product they might be dealing with should an emergency happen.

I love antiques myself and I’ve found wonderful pieces rather inexpensively from estate sales, Facebook marketplace and kijiji. What I love about these unique pieces is that I’m the only one with it. It’s not mass produced and totally elevates my home on a budget. The key here is patience because sourcing antiques at also a good price often comes down to luck 😊🤗🌺

Great tips! I would add organizing drawers and closets and areas that are not "visual" really helps. For example, people have way too much stuff, and there are a lot of reasons why people keep things. It takes real discipline to eliminate clothes you don't wear, and any number of things that accumulate. Having just what you need, and upgrading those things you do use to something of quality creates a good feeling in your home.

I 100% agree removing labels can spell disaster even if you don't have children. It's not a very smart idea because even adults can have unpleasant results without proper labeling. There is a reason certain items are required by law to have warnings on their labels.

Good tips! The ones I swear by are: - nice, matching towels. TKMaxx/TJMaxx sometimes have nice ones - I got some handsome hammam style ones. - fat, nice bedding that all goes together (not matching but cohesive). I use the double duvet trick: replace fitted sheet with duvet (in cover), then layer the duvet you’ll sleep under, then blanket/coverlet/throw and pillows. It’s like sleeping in clouds and your bed looks tall and luxe. - vintage rugs. Not always easy to find but worth snapping up if you see them. Printed ones always look cheap and a lot of the contemporary ones can look v mass market (because, well, they are), and most of us can’t afford truly high end, distinctive ones. - good lighting (at multiple eye levels) makes a world of difference - not being too restrictive about colour! A general palette is good, a strict colour scheme looks themed, dated and flat.

Not sure if we look expensive or not, but went a bit rogue in that we met while working in a museum (she in ethnology, me in paleo). We love the museum/gallery look, so sought to emulate it by having furniture that is low and dark so that items of art and nature are highlighted. Saturated and large art pieces are part of the blend, as well as irreverent sculpture and modern Inuit pieces.

These are wonderful suggestions, especially your advice to stick to a color scheme. I had no idea when I hired an interior designer for my former condo that she could take all the custom window treatments and have them re-tailored to fit the windows in my new condo. And because of the layout of the new condo and the fact that certain pieces of furniture had to be in different rooms, it was important that everything flowed. This saved me many thousands of dollars.

Please DO ignore scents. The chemicals present in most fragrances, even essential oils, is enough to send those of us with chemical sensitivities into distress and even hospitalization. My airways swell shut from fragrance. I even have negative reactions to being in the same space with someone who uses scented body care products or who has laundered their clothing in scented laundry products. A much larger percentage of the population suffers from chemical sensitivities than you imagine. If you're worried about how your space smells, keep it clean (using unscented products) and open the windows. Thank you.

She did say that if you are living in a large family then it might not be practical.. But if it's just a couple then I am sure you can read the labels before you remove them so you are familiar with safety instructions. Anyway.. You're not going to remove labels off cleaning supplies that are kept away in cupboards.. Her tip is more for items that stay out like dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, softener, etc..

Removing labels: so true. For practical reasons, I left one label at the one "invisible" side and turn in the vessel without the label :-) This way I know all the important info from the back without the promotional label on the front (unless the vessels are in a cupboard - then I don´t bother removing anything :-) ).
@DogeDavidLoredan
@DogeDavidLoredan Жыл бұрын
I definitely appreciate your tip on labels, and this was a GREAT video overall, so please *don’t take this as an insult* BUT I *really* need to emphasize the importance of knowing what chemical you’re using - even those that seem harmless or used frequently can react with other ingredients, or damage/destroy something it wasn’t meant to be used on, or even cause severe burns, blindness or harm to a child or anyone else unaware of the dangers it poses. Likewise, without knowing the proper “Caution/Warnings” & “What to do if on skin, in eyes, inhaled, mixed with ammonia, spilled, used on metal pipes, used with septic systems etc.” it could lead to permanent harm (burns, irritation or rashes, eye damage, blindness, lung damage, property damage etc) that can be avoided or greatly minimized when the *proper* treatment for the *specific* chemical is followed as per the label (or Poison Control who will *need the ingredients of the label*) Lots of common cleaning products contain things like ammonia, chlorine, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric or sulphuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, peroxide, sodium carbonate (washing soda) etc. Although these chemicals (and most chemicals) shouldn’t be seen as scary or avoided - they should be respected & understood at the bare minimum, for the potential reactions they could have that could make them dangerous, and the “what if” scenarios I mentioned above. **If you’re determined to remove labels, at least take a photo of each product with its full label & bottle before removing it. Make sure you share these photos with your family - or print them and have them near where you store those chemicals** “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” as they say. And anyway, besides hand soap & sanitizer, all cleaning products/chemicals are kept out of common sight in cupboards or the laundry & bathroom etc. in my home. Even the dish soap is put under the cupboard after use. (If our guests find some reason to go through our child-resistant cupboards where we do keep certain in rather than ask for anything they might need - our concern would be far fixed on the disrespect of our personal home than on what anyone thought of what they found in said cupboards that they had no business being in to begin with 😂) As for the bathroom, we have a reusable porcelain liquid soap pump which we fill with the soap from the plastic bottles. (No labels to worry about) And as for what’s in our utility room and laundry room (which is kept locked for the sake of our young sons) our guests have no business being in, we aren’t particularly worried about what they think about our labels but would be more concerned about the invasion of our privacy in that event 😂 ***Sorry for the long winded post! I just felt it needed to be said as a safety concern coming from a house with small children. Please don’t take this as a criticism or personal attack against the creator of the video! It should be noted that I agree with what she said in theory about labels, and the video itself was very well made and presented! I am sure she never intended to imply removing safety warnings - but you never know what people will do to impress others or how extreme they’ll take a suggestion to extend to literally scrubbing off all labels off of everything (as I am picturing some doing now) Again, I subscribed to this channel because this WAS a quality video, but the safety issue on labels was directed at everyone - not the uploaded! 😊 ♥️ Hope you all understand!

If you only remember one thing in this video, remember to NEVER upholster a sofa or chair with patterned fabric….unless you are an upholster. I have made that mistake and it cost a fortune to have my very well made sofa reupholstered 15 years later. The “in” pattern I picked for my sofa in the early 80s looked drab and dated by the late 90s. So I had to pay a fortune to have it reupholstered in a solid color. If you love patterns like me, you can add patterned pillows and throws to chair/sofa.

Sometimes if you are never content with your home it may be that you have no appreciation or gratitude for what you have. A change of perspective along with rearranging the furniture may be all that is needed. No one ever has it all & even if you won the lottery it really doesn’t bring happiness, ask those who won it. Contentment is the one thing you can do for yourself. Tell yourself how lucky you are & remember others can be a whole worse off.

For dimmable light, I just use IKEA connected light bulbs. There are 2 different models of switches, to modify either light tone (cold to warm) AND light power (low to high), or power only.

Large rugs; not cluttered with a lot of small ones. I recently replace three small rugs in an entryway with one large one.

What color is the paint in the bedroom at 4:15? It looks like antique white. Very serene color.

great info and budget minded, thank you! I always look forward to your videos (I only wish the clown-horn sound effect to signify 'design-fail' was used more abundantly on this one, it always makes me smile. Maybe next time?) 🤡

Make things easy to maintain- have a “home” for everything. I struggle with this! For example, a place near the entry to hide shoes.

Removing labels from cleaning materials you store under your sink will NOT make your house look more expensive OMG. Just store those items out of view and save yourself all that time and energy. Those labels are never coming off anyway.

NEVER remove a label from chemicals , it is useful for your doctor to see what you sprayed in your eye or on your skin in case of emergency !! And many other useful information like: do not mix with this or that as you can create very harmful substances

Large framed prints are at least 100+ USD. The print you showed is just the price for the PDF file. No way you're getting a framed canvas at 4 USD.
