I recently re-watched Knock at the Cabin, and it's the epitome of the "you can write this stuff, but you can't say it" style that he just seems to DO, now. I really don't know why, either. There's a Wes Anderson quirkiness M. Night has tried (see: Signs, the Happening) where the strange dialogue works because it injects some levity. But in Knock at the Cabin, I didn't appreciate it. As long has he keeps getting projects, I suppose we'll have to live with it.

Left the concert and went to his house, because i was honestly starting to get kinda bored of the concert setting, like there was nothing new to be done. I really do think it would've been detrimental for the movie if they stayed there because there's only so much that you can do before it gets old quickly. He's messing around with people, tricking and fooling his way around without getting caught, creating distractions, hiding... at some point there's just nothing else he can do, the possibilities are not infinite within this concert, so leaving it and changing the setting for the second half felt like an organic and refreshing reinvention.

There were some good tidbits in the story. The singer would need serious bravery when she decided to manipulate his daughter to get back to his house rather than dropping them off at the corner. Basically just buying time and looking for the info needed to get the cops involved. But look, he threw down the challenge when he took the singer aside and showed her the prisoner, and put his survival "in her hands". Now she took that personal and decided right then she would not knowingly let that guy die. Different people react to a challenge in different ways, and should we be assuming because she's a celebrity and a pretty girl that she would just walk at her first chance and let that guy die? I thought it was cool that she didn't back down and stayed in the mix. Also Josh dropped a hint that the profiler had "really briefed you very well about me" so you can ponder on what prep they might have given to her. Also i liked when his mind starts racing and shes able to silently get out of the car. His eyes are moving while he tries to figure out how this happened and later you realize this "computation time" is when he probably realized his wife was involved. That was a nice touch.

I actually thought the movie got progressively better after the dream girl scenes. Though that's potentially for a few reasons, I really didn't like all the singing moments, all he really did at the concert was probe ways out so it never really felt high stakes, and when he did get out it was through something that didn't really feel like much before built up to it. So I was kind of relieved when we moved away from the concert. The unbelievablity didn't really bother me since I was having much more fun at that point and I do enjoy a good protagonist shift.

I want to ask about the trailer. I'm a huge Saw fan, it's one of my all time favorite franchises. Recently for Saw X, they revealed the "twist" that John's surgery was fake right in the trailer. People were upset about this because it ruins the movie a little bit to know the big reveals before you even see the movie. It sounds like for Trap, they did the same thing. They revealed the dad as the serial killer right in the trailer. My question is, do you think this is becoming some sort of trend? Why would the creators of a movie want to reveal the very thing that draws people to the theaters before they even pay to see it? Wouldn't that cause sales to go down? Is there some marketing scheme I'm not understanding here? I don't want to see more of this in the future because I like not knowing what's going to happen before I sit down to actually watch the film.

And so why would they even tell any of the performers or employees or ANYONE what they're doing there? If anyone asked, they could simply say "oh, we have a potential terrorist threat, it's just extra security, basically just practice for us." etc. Also, Cooper really didn't have anything to worry about. I mean, it's established that he's such a good liar, I'm sure they wouldn't waste too much time interviewing him. Ironically, it's really only knowledge of their actual plan that makes him panic and draw attention to himself. That would have been cool if the FBI profiler actually purposely had hints dropped, so that he would panic and reveal himself. Which is basically what ended up happening.

I liked the concert. I thought Lady Raven was really talented. The fact that in addition to being able to watch a movie, there was also a new artist to watch was a + not a -. Lady Raven was so well adjusted and positive and maybe if Cooper had a Lady Raven to influence him during his impressionable years, he might have taken a different path. We literally witnessed his daughter choosing the more evolved path of forgiveness (regarding the girls from school) as a direct result Lady Raven’s influence.

I really liked this one. Saleka was great and I really liked that the songs she was singing matched what was going on in the movie. Josh Hartnett was a great lead too of course.

SPOILER WARNING FOR MY COMMENT‼️ The part that really got me was that they let the daughter hug him at the end after the police had him??? Like I just don’t think they would’ve let her get close to him, especially not the mom, knowing that he’s a murderer??? And also just the fact that the daughter did go up and hug him, she was old enough that I feel like she would’ve been more scared of him than wanting a hug from him?
@Sprucelol2 ай бұрын
what annoyed me the most was that the profiler somehow knew everything he was gonna do the literal moment he was about to do it e.g ''the killer is feeling trapped right now, he's gonna try to cause a panic by pulling a fire alarm'' as that's exactly what he's about to do

I caught a couple reviews on this one before I saw the movie and while I don't recommend that in most cases, I really think knowing some of the flaws on this film ahead of time actually helped my viewing experience. My disbelief was ultra suspended and other than maybe a couple eye rolls, I really had a good time with this one. Even to the point where I could chuckle at some of the nonsensical stuff. Hartnett really nailed it and for me his performance really helped this film.

12:39 I haven't watched the movie and got lost in this part. If the wife found out about the husband and "gave" the jnfo for the fbi, why didn't she just give his name? Was it really better to give this info for the dad to be pursued while he is with the daughter?
@Kimberly-bj9ns2 ай бұрын
She has a "feeling" it was him due to some circumstantial evidence and wanted the concert trap to hopefully prove her hunch wrong (what she said in the movie as a reason for tipping the police)

@@Kimberly-bj9nsstill doesn’t make sense. why as a mom risk her daughter’s safety and for sure traumatizing her by leaving her alone with someone she suspects is a mad serial killer + having FBI disturb the concert and, assumingly, the dad. if her plan work, her daughter would’ve been left alone with strangers at a giant concert while dad is arrested for being f’in Jack the ripper. At worst, dad could’ve taken her hostage, killed people in front of her and gotten killed in front of her.

I love M night’s films but I wanted something more. I was bored during the whole movie until the 3 act where the lady raven went to Josh Hartnett’s house. I also wanted more kills but it seems like we only got 1 kill and it was just a photo.

i loved this movie, it had the vibe of classic hitchcock movies where the film logic is less important that sitting back and enjoying the ride. it’s a gonzo approach, but our usual suspension of disbelief with movies should suffice

Maybe it’s because I saw Olivia Rodrigo a few days before seeing this movie but I really liked the concert scenes😅. I’m not generally a Shyamalan fan but was pleasantly surprised with how fresh it felt. The suspense in the last bit of the movie was great imo

He kept getting away with being checked. Once or twice?, ok maybe, but it was like 5 times they stoped him. Also , the cops never look at him, not even a quick glimpse , it’s like he’s invisible. When he pushed girl down stairs, all they need to do is check cameras. There’s about 50 plot holes in this movie. The extras didn’t seen real, the police didn’t seem real, Hartnett was great tho. Just wasted potential, could’ve been a classic

I feel that M. Night purposely went in the far fetched direction. This is almost a horror comedy in my eyes and I am not mad at it. Very much enjoyed this watch in theaters. Love Josh Hartnett and I love M. Night. Would be interested in reading the script.

YAY you “get it”! It IS a comic take on the killer thriller genre! So camp, M swung for the branches and Hartnett did too. we love it!

As someone fascinated by true crime, I found it interesting how they obviously took inspiration from Ted Bundy for Cooper. He repeatedly escaped from authorities, he led a normal family life while simultaneously leading a separate existence as a killer, and he pretended to be hurt to lure people in so he could snatch them into his car. I also LOVED Josh Hartnett’s performance. He was phenomenal and while I enjoyed the movie overall (despite having to definitely suspend my disbelief lol), he made the film for me. Finally, like someone else here said, M Night’s movies are inherently rewatchable, even if they’re not his best work. I can’t wait to see it again!

As a big M. Night and Josh Hartnett fan this was literally my most anticipated movie of the year. I had hyped it up so much, it was honestly impossible for it to be that good as it was in my head haha. But I did really enjoy it and thought it was very fun and entertaining. However, I think it could’ve used a bit more tension and action, also more focus on the actual crimes of the butcher and possibly more violence and gore as well. Saleka’s music for the film was phenomenal and better than a lot of mainstream pop atm.

I understand that the weird dialogue with Cooper was intentional, but some of it came off as pure exposition. For instance, when the guy at the t-shirt stand tells Cooper that it's a police trap with no way out-unless, of course, the killer manages to go backstage - it felt oddly specific and unnatural. For a moment, I even thought Cooper and this guy might know each other and that the t-shirt guy was subtly trying to help him.

Yeah the dialogue felt so unnatural

Not great, but not terrible. Josh Hartnett and Allison Pill both had good performances. Both underrated. I felt anxious the whole movie which is the point of a thriller. Did not like that he was going to get away with it but it was creative to see how he got out of situations.

I thought it was one of his best films. People were complaining aboit how his daughter was a big character and the end. I dont care I thought it was well done. There was a reveal that surprised me as well. I like the direction M Night is going in his movies. Im bias too hes always been my favorite since the sixth sense. He goes out of the culture norm and always keeps you guessing. I think there is supposed to be 2 more movies of this. Especially with how it ended. Left it open.

I loved this movie for what it was. After I got over the fact that the movie CLEARLY doesn't take place on a realistic timeline. *SPOILERS BELOW* The way they planned to take down a serial killer at one of the biggest concerts (would agree Lady Raven was about Taylor Swift famous), the way the police acted the entire film, the way Lady Raven was lax about security, the way she went to the family's house and what transpired with her there, all of that would absolutely not have went down like that in our timeline. Now. In a different timeline where all safety goes out the window? Sure, why not. It was really hard for me to just be like "well, I guess this is how they do things here" and roll with it, but after moving past it it was really fun, acting was stellar, it was FUNNY. Definitely will watch again in the future

Trap is a great movie experience. M.Night Shyamalan delivers a ridiculously entertaining thriller packed with twists, turns and surprises from start to finish. The selling point is Josh Harnett as the butcher, a distinguished performance from the seasoned actor, Shyamalan‘s audacious script gives Harnett the ability to cut loose in role. Blurring the lines between denial and insanity, Harnett is utterly engrossing as the infamous Butcher. The supporting cast do an affable job in their respective roles, particularly Ariel Donoghue as the Butcher’s daughter. The father/daughter relationship adds complex layers to the character of Butcher. The film isn’t perfect. The film isn’t perfect, during the second half he looses his grip on fluidity, relying too much on radical plot conveniences, that get quite silly and comical by the film’s end. Nonetheless the story ends with a very clever twist. If you can ignore the lack of logic, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the film’s ability to keep you guessing. Shyamalan maintains a healthy amount of suspense throughout. It’s worth watching once. I had a great time and I can’t wait to watch it again.

I agree with 2.5/5. I also almost gave it a 3 for pure enjoyment, but at the end of the day, there are way too many wasted moments and opportunities in this film to give it higher than 2.5. I do like the last scene, I think it is M. Night winking at us that he is in on the joke of unbelievability and the sense that the movie is never ending lol.
@karenayers67932 ай бұрын
The problem with an M. Night Shyamalan movie is. . .HIS FIRST MOVIE WAS A MASTERPIECE! With that said, "Trap" was far from a failure. IMO, the top 3 things about the movie were, 1. discovering Saleka Night Shyamalan! I'm buying that music! I loved every single song she sang; 2. the return of Josh Hartnett! Was that supposed to be a dad bod when he took his shirt off? Josh is like almost 50 years old. He could give Channing Tatum a run for his money as the next Magic Mike! 3. I love surprise casting. It was a hoot seeing Hayley Mills. As an African American, Sonya Massey shown being murdered by a cop in her own kitchen after calling the police to her home because she thought an intruder was outside her house, was devastating to watch. So, in the movie, when a serial killer is tased by 4 different cops, allowed to fiddle with a bicycle, then put in the back of a police van ALONE. . .I just thought. . .must be nice to have white privilege. Anyway, I digress. I'm glad that I saw it. It's worth the price of admission. I look forward to the next M. Night Shyamalan movie!
