My biggest problem with this movie was how it all resulted in nothing. The ending was so abrupt, simple, and kind of made the whole journey null and void. I was in the small camp of actually being excited for this movie because I love Brandy (and to be fair I think she is the best part.) But they set up so many different things with this stepmother (cult, supernatural, lying to make Brandy look evil, racism) that get tossed out almost as fast as they introduce the ideas. Such a strange movie.

one thing i will say about making bad decisions in horror movies is that we need to keep in mind that the characters don’t know they’re in a horror. in real life we never expect something bad to happen to us so we’re not as careful as we would be if we knew we were about to be in a horror film.

I love an empty theatre. I go at weird times to avoid crowds and I have never heard of a whole screening being cancelled, this evening there was 1 other person in there. Also I feel like Beetlejuice is like the Goonies or Ghostbusters or something, if you grew up with it, it is a classic ,if not, it is "Meh". Anyway, I actually liked The Front Room. It had so many things I love in general (small cast, limited timeline, contained sets, reasonable runtime) I also love good character acting and the Solange character was great in my opinion. I like how every other character was living in her world, the fact that Belinda immediately accepts this person into their life and the weird church sh-tuff gave her even more power as a character and the Husband saying he should just run away as soon as he sees her ,estranged for years, -but money- was a good way to give her more power as well. I am glad people are finding this movie gross and disturbing and it is getting strong reactions. For a movie that is borderline religious horror in a year full of religious horror I feel like this one had a unique take on the concept.

I saw this with my husband and we both really enjoyed this one, not what I was expecting either. I think in today's world of sequels and remakes this was a nice change. I also looked for the short story to read as I wanted to see if it clarified the supernatural elements but as you said it's not available. For me I think this plays into the duality of life, birth and death and how similiar they actual are and as a caregiver and/or mom how quickly you deal with the issues poop and spit up (lol) for examples. Maybe I am looking too deep into it but I liked this one alot. She infuriated me too with some of her choices aka not running upstairs with baby after coming home. Kathryn Hunter was amazing as Solange! Also thats is one of my biggest rants about today's theaters as Beetlejuice was on 7 screens out of the 12 at my theater so no I don't care about your box office numbers as you didn't give other movies a chance to succeed.
@justin123782 ай бұрын

I didn’t find it believable either, particularly from the wife’s pov. From the way the husband spoke about it, he was under contract so he wouldn’t necessarily qualify for paternal leave. If she knew that, why would she accept the mother in law so close to giving birth, why would she quit her job the way she did? Why would she force the mother in law to move in when he was so clearly uncomfortable with it? I feel like there were a lot of choices made that were just stupid.
@jenuineamazing7776Ай бұрын
I guess I'm one of the few who actually found it believable. I think the reason why the husband wouldn't take paternity to leave is because he said he was close to getting his work promotion. As for Belinda, a lot of people quit their job when they feel like they are being mistreated and undervalued. So, Belinda quitting wasn't surprising, but, I also agree that the way she quit was. She didn't even discuss it with her husband before quitting because now they had to rely on one source of income with a baby on the way! Belinda knew they needed the money, so she willingly invited Solange into their home. Even with Norman's stories, Belinda didn't expect Solange to really be that bad. As a healthcare worker, the bodily fluid didn't get to me, nor did Solange's attitude. After a while, you get used to elderly people and their crap-literally & figuratively. I've walked into patients' rooms and there's poop smeared EVERYWHERE while the patient is yelling racial slurs at you. Also, it's not uncommon to see pregnant mothers forced to put up with their in-laws, it happens. Sadly, this is an actual reality for some people.
@meninonas8159Ай бұрын
@@jenuineamazing7776 I think that for me it’s the pregnancy that gets me. I haven’t been married nor am I a woman but I feel like being close to giving birth is a big enough event that I would want to keep my job until we’re both more financially stable. Plus, I would assume she would know that she would be mostly in charge of the in law while being in charge of the child so why wouldn’t that be a point of discussion? When she discussed later on needing help with the in-law, it seemed like she was asking to get help with a nanny or an in home nurse? This would be more affordable if they both had a job. In addition, why would she quit knowing the husband is overwhelmed at work? Why put the financial pressure on him and then further financial pressure by asking for someone to come in and help? Like, it just seemed like the worst time to quit, even if she had a very legitimate reason to do so. We don’t live in a country where we have a big enough safety net where someone can just quit Willy nilly

Sooooo PAID paternity and even maternity leave is dependent on state and employer regulations. Most companies in the US only offer PAID paternity leave from your own PTO/sick/vacation time so if you don’t have any or only a little bit of this time left for the year you won’t get paid for the time off but you can still take it off as FMLA. Washington state has paid FMLA that is separate from your job where you get paid from the state vs using your own employee PTO. Its very nice. It makes sense that they don’t have a caregiver for memaw, aside from the will, if they were struggling financially because mediCARE (which is the 65+ medical insurance through the state) does not pay for any kind of long term caregivers or long term living facilities like assisted living or nursing homes. MediCAID (healthcare for those who are low/no income) does pay for these long term care services but only if you qualify. This issue with elderly that need more care but may make too much for medicaid leaves a huge huge gap in care for elderly and family members get stuck picking up the pieces and gaps in care. Its incredibly sad and something I’ve personally dealt with and had to see patients go through during my healthcare career. 😢

My mom actually has a vertical scar from her first 3 C-sections. Granted all 3 of my siblings were born in Mexico so idk if that’s normal over there or not. But when she came to America and had me they had to cut vertical since she has 3 vertical C-sections before me.

With A24, Brandy, AND the Eggers name attached, I admittedly had an unfair level of expectation for this movie...

The only movie I'm ok with horror dream - hallucinations in is It Comes at Night because they were incredibly well incorporated and they actually impact the plot progression

Actually, I live in NJ and did not get paternity leave. I took a week off but we had to plan to put money aside for it.

A few bits made me proper laugh + rewind tho... 😂😂

Im glad to hear about the poop thing, I was thinking about watching it on theaters and that would have made me need to leave 😅 Also, not everyone gets paternity leave or has the ability to get a caregiver post birth... so I cant fault the story for that, and there are husbands who leave their pregnant partner floundering while pregnant. Thats not unheard of. And vertical c sections do exist.

So! I do have an answer for the vertical C section scar (I have not had any children but I am a Nurse!)! While VERY rare, vertical c sections do still happen in a very emergency situation often by a surgeon who is not used to doing c sections and is just trying to save baby and mom’s life asap!! Anyway, the more you know!❤

I enjoyed this movie and I thought it was a HUGE mis-market as a horror! This was damn near dark comedy, but they were trying to do the serious social commentary. Solange was HILARIOUS! OMG. Everyone else was cool in their roles. I didn’t know it was a short story, but that tracks, given how much that was missing and would’ve helped fill out the film.

Hi Sarah! Fall and Winter are my 2 favourite seasons. Especially the movies round Halloween and Christmas. I love your ranking videos. I wonder which movie you like to watch, in which month? (If there are any movies you watch only once a year?)

Me and my lady went to see this movie. I have to say, we loved it because it was so FUNNY😂😂😂😂😂😂 ..definetly an unintentional comedy. This is the most fun I had in a movie since Deadpool x Wolverine

I feel like Brandy may have just done the best with what she was given here… this whole character sounds insane to me lol I’m not sure if there’s a way to play it that doesn’t ride the line of being either chronically unconcerned or just silly because COME ON

You're not alone on Beetlejuice. I LOVED it as a child, couldn't care less now.

I loved the campesque commitment of performing this very tedious experience of a young married couple who are both pushovers somewhat in contrast to the fervor and passive aggressive dominance of Kathryn’s character. I think this will move into cult classic status in time, but the last like 15/20 minutes? Definitely needed a rewrite or three 😭
@tomleonard8302 ай бұрын
The Solange character is definitely tilting it to cult classic - she is a bit over the top. But the scatalogical stuff is going to be tough to sit through unless that is your thing.

Would love to see a video ranking folk horror. Also a vid on where to get physical media online. I have no used CD stores near me, they are all getting rid of physical media. Our local FYE stopped getting new stock. 🤬

I had a great time at the theater. I couldn’t stop laughing! I didn’t like the way it ended but I had a good time. I am also a horror reader and found the book is on kindle unlimited.

Before the 90s they used to split moms down the middle. My mom has that scar down her stomach. I'm so glad they changed it... Also glad they stopped encouraging c-sections

So, I was looking forward to this since 2022 when they first announced it because I am a HUGE Brandy fan. I enjoyed the movie for the cinematography, acting, and the writing was pretty good. However, I would not call this a horror movie. You can tell they tried to add elements to make it horror, but it’s just not. There’s also not much at all to the story. Like nothing actually happens except Brandy’s character gets fed up and then the end happens. I’m still upset a24 didn’t promote it like they do some of their other films, but I also get why. I feel like this could have been a really good short film and the movies shows the difficulty of taking a short story and making it a feature length release. Still, I plan to see it at least one more time in theatres and I could see it doing well on streaming or maybe even digital.

I wasn't planning on watching this movie. Pregnancy horror is an automatic NO for me. Adding the elderly incontinence, is WAY too much. Yikes.

Ive nwver had ppd, but i didnt think the mon had it either, as she was having hallucinations before birth as well. That she was overly stressed and tired from taking care of two babies (and grandma😂), no doubt made it harder.

I was actually born by C-section and they cut my mom vertically it was back in the 80s they did that before they started doing it vertically now it's better to do it down under so that it's hidden more and more safe

Also! My Mom's c-section scar was vertical. She had my sister in 1976, and then me in 1984.
