One thing I loved about Thirteen Ghosts is how the Director Never kept the ghosts in dark corners. They were brightly lit with beautifully done full makeup, right in your face! Not a lot of CGI went into the ghosts, just great acting! The people hanging in the cafeteria in The 6th Sense always makes me jump. They look into your flippin' soul! 👻

So rarely see love for Thirteen but it is one of those films that has stuck with me since I first watched it when I was also 13 (we must be pretty much the same age - there are a lot of overlaps in our favourite films and like you say, you tend to favour the era you grew up with). I have a lifelong love for Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed because of this film. I remember watching it and simultaneously feeling like I wanted to be them but also feeling very unsettled by it all.

27:30 The Hunger Games is AMAZING. Personally I believe this franchise did so much more than the dystopian genre, it included SOO much. The books are phenomenal and the entire franchise deserves more love but I’m glad the people that love it don’t “toxify” it as much as other movies. This franchise, especially the Mockingjay movies is very adult and much more darker in the books but the movies capture that really well that it doesn’t feel edgy or trying too hard but it feels so smart. R.I.P to our favorite characters like Rue, Prim and Finnick

This is a surprisingly hard thing to do - narrow down your list of top 30 movies. I can name my top 5 pretty easily. But as the list grows longer it's harder and harder to exclude some and keep others. You and I don't exactly the same taste, but there's a good deal of overlap. I urge you to look into some of these if you haven't seen them. They are...well, they're in my list for a reason. Ask me tomorrow and half these will change, but here's my best go at a top 30. Top Horror: 1) Halloween - Carpenter's masterpiece 2) The Thing - Carpenter's other masterpiece 3) Alien - Ridley Scott's masterpiece 4) Cemetery Man - Italian zombie film, but so much more. I still haven't figured out the ending 5) Return of the Living Dead - Best dark comedy horror (Cabin in the Woods is a very close 2nd) 6) Trilogy of Terror - Skip the first 2 stories. It's all about the doll! Top Sci-Fi 7) Sunshine - So glad you introduced me to this! 8) Blade Runner - Ridley Scott's other masterpiece 9) Blade Runner 2049 - An amazing continuation of the original. Dark and beautiful. 10) Pacific Rim - Giant robots! 11) Annihilation - A beautiful and deep exploration of the self. Top Western 12) The Good, The Bad, The Ugly - Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. No better anti heroes. 13) The Quick and the Dead - Sam Rami before Spiderman. Sharon Stone's amazing in it. 14) The Magnificent Seven - Akira Kurosawa's the Seven Samurai in western form. Best Drama/Comedy 15) Breaking Away - The most heartwarming movie I've seen. 16) Better off Dead - 80's teen comedy masterpiece 17) The Blues Brothers - Best musical/comedy ever Best Asian 18) Ten Tigers of Kwangtung - Kung Fu goodness 19) The Raid 2 - Best fight scenes ever! 20) Ran - Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece. I also absolutely love Thirteen. It came out right before I turned 15, and I moved into a group home/residential treatment facility(for mental health issues) on my 15th birthday. I lived there for almost a year and it changed my life. But before that I could really relate to the characters in the movie. And also the things they were doing. So it definitely holds a special place in my heart. I am a horror fanatic but I feel like my favorite movies of all time don't include many horror movies till I get past my top 5. My top 5 in no order would probably be American History X, Blood Diamond, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003, Labyrinth, and Lord of the Rings.

Excellent choices. Interstellar is also one of my absolute favourites, along with 2001 and, veering more towards the horror side, Dead Man's Shoes.

Hi, I'm new to your channel, haven't seen old videos yet. Though horror movies are not my favorite genre, "Crimson Peak", "Scream '96" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" are among my favorite horror of all time. In the category of non-horror we do share favorites: "Joker" it's a masterpiece, I watched the whole Oscar ceremony just to jump of happiness when Joaquin was finally recognized as the genius that he is; "The Martian" is one of my comfort movies, I also cry when "Starman" by Bowie is playing but that (to me) is related to the fact that I miss him and haven't been able to play his music since his death (or his movie Labyrinth) 😢. "Interstellar" is a cinematic master class, those critics who hated it, they don't know what they're saying. I also cry a lot during that scene when McConaguey is watching his grown up children on video. It kills me every time cause I have a non-existent relationship with my own dad, it's so sad to watch. Also, my number one favorite actress Jessica Chastain is in both movies 😁. I'm curious, don't you like "Arrival" ? It's right up there in my top sci-fi movies with "The Martian", "Interstellar" and "Gravity"

She has Arrival in her DVD collection, I think she likes it, maybe it's just not one of her all-time faves. I LOVE Scream (1996) too btw 😁

I’m surprised that I hadn’t seen this video until now. I usually watch your content shortly after you release it. I have to say, that I agree with so much of your list. I don’t think I could nail down a favorite movie, but The Martian, and Interstellar are definitely high in my rankings. I watch a double feature of those movies quite often. Anyway, thanks for continuing to put out great content. I was completely wrong though. I figured The Ring was your favorite of all movies for sure.
