If I had to take a guess for the horseshoe bracelets, I believe Spike taught some of the ancient dragons about cutie marks and how they work, so from generation to generation, they would go through some sort of trial of finding out who they are and what their special talent is, and their elders gift them a special designed braclets. I am guessing that after being around ponies for a long time the dragons somehow got mixed in with ponies which affected their morphology during Twilight's reign. You don't need to put much more thought into the reasons to just accept it.

Maybe, but we know from the comics the magic sealing spell was not long after the end of g4 cuz the mane 6 were all still alive and looked the same as they did at the end of the series, not much older. And since the friendship between species and tribes broke down, we can infer that twilight lost her magic more than the other alicorns. Cuz if only friendship went awry but love, the sun, and the moon all are still intact, it implies most alicorns still kept just enough magic to keep their respective things intact. But since twilight was literally ground zero, as we see in multiple points between the stained glass and the comics, Twilight's magic would be most affected. So twilight might have lost so much she reverted to a normal lifespan, hence why her recording is more alike to twilight before she became a celestia clone. So her reign ended pretty soon after, and then the tribes and peace quickly fell apart soon after. Only a select few kept Twilight's teachings around, eventually passing it down for generations until peace was a mere myth or legend, and the mane 6 were viewed as bedtime stories for many ponies. All except for the last ones that held twilight's teachings and lived where she'd formed the crystals. That final member had a daughter, and that daughter has now united ponykind once more, and oddly enough has become an alicorn. So maybe there is some genetic link between Twilight the princess of friendship and Sunny, the potential long distant successor to the title. But that's just speculation.

As someone who always liked the cute Spike crushing on Rarity plotline, I'm all here for these being pony / dragon hybrids! Albeit, maybe not being descendants of Rarity's (the age gap seemed pretty far) but rather the descendants of Spike and some other pony. Sweetie Belle comes to mind, but only because of the Rarity connection.

Which could then lied to the cast being introduced to the actual spike which could look like he does in the time skip. The reason why I think they might go that way is because there doesn’t seem to be any design traits for this purple dragon, the dictate, whether their male or female.

Was going to say that I had a theory that the dragons we're seeing are descendants of dragons and ponies that had kids together. It's also possible that evolution kicked in in the time between g4 and g5 and they became more like what we saw in the teasers. We'll have to wait and see. At least we'll get some answers next month.

From the fact that they have hair, I'm tempted to think that at least some of the dragons we're seeing aren't full blooded dragons. It seems like somewhere along the line, pony, and possibly even hippogriff and changeling DNA was mixed in. Also, idk why, but I have this feeling that the one dragon that has a similar color scheme to Spike might be his daughter/granddaughter, and that she'll be the one to introduce Spike to the new generation of ponies. Idk, she just resembles Spike so much with her webbed ears and green spines... and she definitely looks female... so it's hard to imagine her as anything other than a relative of Spike. Speaking of... I wonder who Spike ended up with? He used to have a thing for Rarity, and later developed a close bond with Gabby and Ember as well. I wonder if he ended up with one of them or an entirely unknown character...? Oh! And I just realized something. Remember how the CMC gave Gabby Griffin a "cutie mark" via a pin to wearon her delivery bags? Since Spike and Gabby were good friends, it's possible she's the one who brought the idea of artificial cutie marks to the dragons. I figure she would have visited and that some dragons may have liked the look of those decorative pins she wore... so it makes sense.

I feel like approaching this in a non inuniverse way. I think it does a better job at explaining their design. Making toys out of the dragons was definitely part of the design but it wasn't just that. Assuming the difficulty and lack of time the modelers and animators had with these dragons, then I can't think of any other way to make this possible without using the same base model for all of them, including spike. Which explains why we don't see Spike as masculine as we saw him in the last problem. Since I don't think the creative team would have liked having spike being the odd one out while the rest all had the same base model. If one got a unique model then all of them would have gotten a unique model, which is not practical. I don't know much about creating models but this is my best guess.

I like to think that the dragons that look like that have pony hooves with claws instead of regular dragon feet are hybrids of Dragons & ponies mixed together Doc. Spike's granddaughter, and possibly inter species relations. (By height of the tallest dragon as dragons age slowly) Spike could have had an 'accidental' with Rarity that wasn't mentioned via G4 Lore. The magic of the pony gene could have overwritten the characteristics of some dragons(again, magic at play here) causing a new breed of dragonies/Pogons with some wearing enchanted items to retain their magical attributes while others are birthed with symbolic cutie marks which gives them a more 'natural' retain of magical abilities. But that's just my head canon going off without control...

I hope that is Spike! If you recall with the Dragonlord of G4 and the sleeping dragon in the mountain, both full-grown dragons, were quadrupeds while "teenage" dragons are bipedal. But the end of G4 showed that Spike and Gabby had a kid. At least, they showed a dragon with Griffin features. As for the "hair", they had that in g4 as well; and off to one side is a typical animal's mane look alise from lions.

@@michelleabraham6553 they do live more than 100 years for sure. The dragon in the episode Dragonshy was said to take a "nap" for 100 years, implying dragons live much longer than that. It was already a very large fully grown dragon too, no telling how long it takes them to mature.

Spike x Rarity descendent is definitely in line with the show. Sandbar and Yona know! If pony can get with a yak, they definitely can with a dragon as well. After all it's a magical land and things are possible there! Edit: Did you know that ponies can get with a Draconis as well? Pretty sure said Draconis can help the dragon x pony have kids too!

I wish the dragons were more on two legs than on four legs. I mean in G4 older dragons are always on four legs because they're so big. While Spike, Ember, Smolder, Garble, Sludge, and other more smaller dragons stood on two legs only

Honestly I would not mind at all if that purple dragon was Spike but I think it's going to be more likely he's just related to Spike. I HATE that muscluar design from the epilogue so much though so if they are going to bring him back I really need him not to look like that. It goes against the very core of why he was such a good charachter.

I mean I just took his final look to mean he became his dream self since his adult self looked similar to his dream self. Maybe he started working out to get the body of his dreams and succeeded. I keep hearing hate about the adult Spike look of the finale, but I think our boy Spike himself is happy with it.

@@epicfights7898 But it's everything Spike's charachter was'nt and that's my problem with it. Many times in the series Spike showed that you don't need the perfect six pack abs or chin to be the hero and went against many stereotypical tropes associated with being "manly" . His adult design needed to reflect that, and there's great fanart of a much more fitting adult design for him. I also loved that he was small but could kick ass just as well as any adult dragon. Even just growing his wings gave him the ability to take on and roast a Roc all by himself. With help from Rarity he was able to clash with Chryslis one of the strongest villians in the series. I have the same issue with Twilight's adult design in terms of how it goes against her own charachter and growth too. It's why I'm glad G5 went with her normal look and hope they stick with it.

Personally I don't have a problem with physical appearance since I could argue neither Spike nor Twilight are in control of what they grow into, so I don't see it as any big reflection or contradiction of their character. If Spike looked more slim and close to his cute younger self, or more identical to those Dragons from the Dragon lands, but then had some attitude change and was now all tough like Ember or Garble, then I'd feel like you do, that they're going against the core of his character. For me, despite whatever he looks like, his core was that he's gentle and more friendly, likely because he grew up in Pony Culture. I don't feel like an appearance change defies who he is, he doesn't just look gentle, he *is* gentle. That's why then he was a big greed dragon in Secret of my Excess, the core part of him that cared for others and gave Rarity the ruby was briefly seen in that big Dragon's face. Spike as someone who's gentle and caring is his core, not simply the appearance of someone small and gentle. To me at least. He can look like whatever they want him to, so long as he acts like the Spike we know. =P

Another thing that got me about designs was the fact that, in the 'crystal message', Twilight looked like she was still the same age she was in most of the G4 series. However, the last episode of G4 had a much older Twilight whose body dimensions were more similar to Celestia's. At that time, the ponies weren't separated, meaning that Opaline hadn't appeared yet. The way Twilight appeared in the crystal message wasn't accurate continuity wise because she was supposed to be older.

So doc an idea I had was what if these where ponies who turned themselves into dragons via a ritual created by starlight to escape whatever conflict opaline caused (presumably war by what the comics say) and that's why they have pony like features and charms?

I admit I kinda figured that the green and purple dragon could be a descendant of Spike, considering the different design ( they could even have the same name, too, considering all the other versions of Spike in MLP as a whole). Also, November 23rd… I hope the producers know what they’re doing, as another big franchise over here in the UK is turning 60 that day (a certain show of which a certain Doctor Whooves is named after!).

It would be crazy if they managed to weave the Legend of Spyro series into the show if they would want make a crossover. Spyro is a purple dragon and has four legs like these dragons and I can tell these dragons are dragonesses like Cynder. When the 1st legend of Spyro game A New Beginning they wanted bring out a female dragon villain based off the form of the main foe’s dragon form in Sleeping Beauty. Cynder was directly inspired by that form before she became a protagonist in Dawn of the Dragon. I’m interested on how Sunny and company can defeat Opaline for good and bring Eques to its former glory. We know she’s a fire alicorn, so the only power that can defeat her is fire’s ultimate weakness. Water. After all water extinguishes fire.
