I've always kept all my car's doors locked since I started driving regularly in the early 80s. Also, to this day, I never unlock my car to get in until I've checked the back seat area as well as the "way back," even in the daytime. Call me paranoid but I don't want any sudden surprises to go down once I'm inside the car, seat belted in, and at a big disadvantage.

In my car, you have to manually lock/unlock one of the rear doors. You can't just do it with the button on the driver's door. I need to get that fixed. One day, my brother was riding on the seat with the "defective" door lock. I noticed his door wasn't locked so I told him to lock it. He asked me why. I told him it was to prevent someone from opening the door and getting in. He asked me what the probability of that happening was. I snapped at him and told him to lock it. Yeah, now I have to worry about him not being precautious.
