Thank you for your video. We really enjoyed PK. The hike was tough in the summer. We must have taken the Longhorn trail by mistake because the total hike was long and difficult. We did get to the very top of overlook and that was beautiful. Jumping in the nice cool water after our hike was so refreshing. This swimming beach had shaded areas and tables. We would definitely return.

Great review of one of the best in North Texas! Didn't know the guy that owned the store was "semi-retiring"...my semi-retirement plan was to run a store like this on a lake 😂! For sure...watch out for those snakes in the summer!! Those overlooks are some of the best in the park. Well done friend.👍

The Lake amazing and can't wait to see how it is over the summer. Jeff came up to me and asked what I was filming. He wanted to make sure I didn't put the ramps in the video 👌. I asked him what was going on and he said he was semi-retiring. He also runs the Lake Mineral Well store, which he still plans to run. 90% of the park was burned down in 2011 and has me wondering if they had more trails? We took a wrong turn and it looked like another trail, but had plenty of debris blocking the path. Thanks for stopping by and watching! Loving those Utah videos your doing.

These trails look doable for my family! How long does it usually take you guys to explore the parks?
@MrSTravelQuest3 жыл бұрын
You could knock out these trails. It’s under 3 miles of trails. I learned they had some other trails outside the park that’s free to the public. We usually plan out the park and see how many trails it has. If it’s a big park we might spend a few days. If it’s a small park we usually just do a day pass.

Do you feel like Texas State Parks are correctly labeling their trail difficulty levels? Was the Lakeview Trail really moderate? Was the Longhorn Trail really challenging, or was it moderate for everywhere else in the US and challenging for just that part of Texas? I always wonder how they classify trails. Oh, and nicely done. 😁👍😀
@MrSTravelQuest3 жыл бұрын
Great question and I wondered the same thing. I would guess it would be based on terrain and elevation. The Lakeview trail was moderate and would be easy if it wasn't rocky in some parts. The Longhorn trail is definitely challenging just because of the light climbing. We were coming down and that's way easier than climbing up. I wish I knew or understood how they classify the trails too. I do wish the park marked the trails a little better, other than that it's a great park. Thanks for swinging by Takacs!

@MrSTravelQuest3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTexasTrailhead This is how California sets the difficulty for hiking. I’m assuming Texas does the same thing. All trails has a rating system even if it’s not a biking trail. I’m going to email them just out of curiosity. Easy - 1-2 miles with easy terrain and little elevation gain. Moderate - 2-4 miles with moderate terrain and some elevation change. Challenging - 4 or more miles OR varying terrain.

Are there any possums there based on the name? I like how you pointed out the campsite you thought was the best. We're always on the lookout for those. You also mentioned tall grass and snakes. Are ticks much of a problem in Texas?
@MrSTravelQuest3 жыл бұрын
The most accepted story is that a man named Sablosky went into the fur hide business and his best suppliers dealing Possum pelts. He would greet these men by saying "Here are the boys from Possum Kingdom". They have different stories on the name, but this is the most accepted one. We do have ticks out here, but I haven't had any issues dealing with them. I thought I point out some of the things I would look for when camping and hiking. I appreciate you taking the time commenting and watching.
