definitely get it in sooner rather than later! Rebinding, held-input repeating, etc. is all a sign of a competent game and as someone who is gameplay-first, features like rebinding being missing are an indicator of the amount of focus that has been put on gameplay compared to art & story. I generally assume no rebinding = low time spent making the gameplay good, most time spent on making it LOOK good
@KyrosX27
@KyrosX27 10 ай бұрын
@@byrondorian680 lol he literally said he'll get to it before release. it's a considerably minor thing compared to the game possibly looking like trash, being unplayable due to bugs, etc. it works, it's pretty, but it's incomplete hence key rebinding not being an option. at least it looks good AND is playable.

Something about the premise of a robots teddy bear trying to survive in the apocalypse is beautiful. Little more than a glorified toy running a scavenging mercenary crew just try and get home to its precious human. He is smart enough to know that they are probably long dead by now but it won't stop him. I wanna see what this world's Furby is like they're probably running an empire.

This looks like a really nice call back to early 2D gaming titles that I loved in high school. I will definitely check this one out.
@Thedefenses
@Thedefenses 10 ай бұрын
For the point on dodges, them either having or not having I-frames is really dependent on the type of game and the type of use you want the dodge to have. If it does have I-frames then its mostly used to just dodge when the attack is landing, not caring most of the time about the direction as the timing would be more important. If it does not have I-frames you would be demanding the player use it more carefully and accurately, which works for some games and not for other.
@dykomsoftware
@dykomsoftware 10 ай бұрын
I tested all the options. In the end I went with 90% damage mitigation instead of I-frames. The dodge is a movement mechanic first. It's too readily needed and available to give total invulnerability every time it's used.
@Thedefenses
@Thedefenses 10 ай бұрын
@@dykomsoftware So this is coming from a point of not knowing if the game has permanent upgrades or not, but i would make it a bit lower damage reduction and give the player the choice of making it have more damage reduction or some other bonus, movement speed or a damage boost if its meant to be a movement ability first, but that´s just me.

Talking about hyper-stylized and singular developers, to be fair a single developer has more control over the art direction than a team of hundreds of people with both directors over them and producers making changes, and so it would make more sense there would be more personality in such a games art direction.

I'd immediatelly begin to look thru the directories for anything I could edit for keybinds. There was an old skiing demo from a magazine that had 2 full extra maps in the dirs, and the environment setup in a txt file. Rather sad I can't locate or even remember what it was, from around the time ATI Caves demo was current.

Can't agree with you more about key bindings. I'm a southpaw and using WASD for anything is right out. I think it was Fire and the Flood, if I am remembering the name right, that didn't have key rebinding and it was totally unplayable for me until I got it on console. I couldn't return it to Steam either, so I'm still a little salty about that one.
