Hi Ms Smishko!! My Daughter and I were on Sanibel the week of Hurricane Eta. I was at Bowmans Beach and spoke with a lady that had been in Ft Myers the previous weeks and on Sanibel during the hurricane. Im wondering if it was you that I spoke with. This particular lady was fond of the orange scallops. I found an Sugar as she was walking away any gave it to her. It is a small world, it could have been you. She did mention that she was flying home.

Love your channel. I would love to shell every weekend. How’s the shelling during the winter? I’d like to take a road trip during the winter break. Where’s the best place to stay? Ft. Myers? Sanibel?
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
Shelling during the winter is awesome! It's the best "season" for shells. I've never stayed on Sanibel but if you're going for shelling I bet staying on the water over there would be pretty stellar. I'm a big fan of Fort Myers Beach because the south end has shells and the north end has Times Square - a "center" of town with restaurants, bars, shops and live entertainment on the weekends. I personally would want to stay close to there since there is a lot to do at night and there is a trolley that runs up and down the island so you wouldn't necessarily have to walk. I would try VRBO based on what you're looking to do while you're down here!

Sorry! I’m late! Today I got two new pet hermit crabs!!! Don’t worry though, I’m taking great care of them. They have a 5.5 gallon terrarium with a spray of moisture, pellets, the right water, a sponge in the water, a log to hide under, lots of extra shells, and the perfect temperature, and I can’t release them because they are used to being in captivity, and wouldn’t survive in the wild. So what is the secret? My wife and I went to Sanibel and did NOT find anything special, no unusual shells, any special time you have to go?
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
Well that's a bummer, but it happens to the best of us. I usually just go first thing in the morning. Lately I've started paying more attention to the tides, so it's possible you just visited at a "bad" time. Also, I tend to walk anywhere between 5-6 miles, so I always increase my chances by covering a lot of beach. I hope you have better luck next time!
@BeachBumminDad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, having been to Sanibel many times I can agree with you that the shelling can be hit-or-miss, however, if you try in the water, check the tide charts, go during a full moon, and shell after a storm, you'll definitely increase your odds. 🌴😎

What do you do with all the shells you keep?
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
I have a new system...I sort them into keepers just the way they are, shells that need to be dipped in acid and shells I'm going to bring back to the beach. The last time I had to organize my shells it took all day! The shells I keep I collect in jars - I do review some of it in a previous video I made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmi2nneLmNuXoLc

Is snorkeling any good at Sanibel?
@SWFBeachLife3 жыл бұрын
There really isn't any reefs or anything but if the conditions are right, you can absolutely snorkel for shells!
