Post Light Photocell Wiring

How to wire a photocell into an existing post light. This is the post light at the Renovation House that is a now-restored 1961 vintage copper fixture with all new glass, socket and LED lamp.

What keeps the photocell from being affected by the post light? I would be worried the artificial light from the lamp would trick the photocell off and cause it to constantly go on and off?

Not an issue here. Light goes wide, not down.

It's better if you disconnect each sensor wire one by one and reconnect the new one one by one before removing the old sensor. Then remove the old sensor and put the new one into the hole. With the wires already connected you cannot accidentally drop it down the inside of the pole.

What size is the pilot bit? Thanks

Pilot bit on a hole saw is 1/4". The size of the hole saw required will depend the the diameter of the photocell. In this case, it was 7/8"

@@rogersshop ok thank you, I have a black and white wires and the ground from the lamp, how will I connect the wires from the photocell it have a black ,red, white cable. Thank you for your help.. laz

@@lazarogonzalez6719 From the power source: Black to black, white to white (along with light socket). Red from photocell goes to black on light socket.

Which one is the neutral. Talk color of wire. Don't assume we know which one is the neutral.

You should have shown more detail as to what wire goes with other wire.This video is pretty useless

You should pay attention. it is CLEARLY stated that black is hot, white is neutral, and red goes to light. Start at 1:10.
