Neal, I've been watching all your video's because after back surgery I have all of your symptoms. 27 years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I've gotten worse ever since. 1 year ago I had back surgery, with rods put in. My back never fused and the surgeon wants to go back, After the surgery, I have experienced so many other symptoms. I looked for someone else with the same symptoms and I found you. I had the mri's on my brain and back, and no lesions, just like you. I waited to see the outcome on your spinal tap. I saw it tonight, Feb. 14. So my family doctor said that I had nerves in my spine that were being crushed. But with the surgery the nerves open up and my fibromyalgia went crazy! I can barely walk or stand. My back is so bad I'm bound to a scooter or wheelchair. I don't use them in the house but I fall 2-3 times a week. I'm wondering if what you have is fibromyalgia? You can talk to me on email. My email is zionswatchman@gmail.com. I'm Sandy Murray in the United States.
@NeilBradleyMS5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy, and thank you for telling me about your back problems.. it sure does sound like you've been through the mill. I found it very interesting when you said your Fibro symptoms went crazy after your surgery a year ago. Back in 2012 I also had back surgery (see my very first video) which sent the nerve pain in my legs through the roof!. The burning was so bad I could have sat and cried, the surgery definitely antagonised my pain levels. I know Fibro is similar to MS but I don't think this is what I have. Reason being is over time I'm progressively getting worse, I might be wrong but I don't think Fibro is a progressive disorder. I'm really sorry to hear this have effected you so badly you're having to use a wheelchair and scooter. For me my back pain is due to the muscles which run either side of my spinal column called the "Erector Spinae muscles".. for some reason they do not work properly and are very stiff, or they are over stressed due to my poor gait. It's such a vicious circle and so difficult to work out where the REAL problem is. You need to be more careful Sandy, 2 - 3 falls a week is definitely not acceptable.. you might really hurt yourself and put yourself in a considerably worse position than your in now. This is what I say to myself, I am SO SO careful and I could easily fall as well, but I simply could not cope with a broken or worse ON TOP of all my other mobility issues. Please be careful and take care, thank you for your message. - Neil.

Thanks for the update Neil. Look forward to learning the results of your LP. Diazapam is good until a tolerance is rapidly acquired and the therapeutic effects needs to be increased , which is why it's pretty controlled. I do remember the lady who made a video for you, I think she lives in London, who suggested Diazapam, because she took it. I take it as well, but it's spooky stuff. One pill is great, two must be super great etc...

Hi John, long time no speak.. I hope you're well and doing ok. Yes, the lady you speak about is Carol Dance, her channel is called "Ceedsie". I recall the video she did about Diazepam. After watching it I mentioned the drug to my MS nurse and she didn't seem very impressed, she almost poo poo'd it. I on the other hand definitely think I would like to give it a try, even if I only take one when I'm feeling pretty rough.. save them for the bad days sort of thing. Another interesting point a subscriber mentioned was, could I be feeling better due to the drainage of some CSF! She mentioned "hydrocephalus" which is the over production of CSF fluid. It can have an effect on your GAIT, I've researched this and watched some video of people walking with this condition.. it's doesn't really fit with me (thankfully) It also only effect people in their 60's and 70's. I'm keen on trying the Diazepam to see if I get the same effect, hydrocephalus is scary stuff. Keep well my friend.
@thekingbee1006 жыл бұрын
@@NeilBradleyMS Sounds good Neil. I find Diazepam to be helpful on occasion. It is tempting to want to feel well everyday and Therein lies the rub. "Tolerance develops within days or weeks" and one cannot have port whilst on it. I take it before the dentist, or MRI etc. I learned somewhat by accident that I became a wee bit keen on relying on it just because it eased the pain and spasms a little. The tolerance developed rapidly and took a long time to go away. I do hope it works well for you!

Hi there! Enjoy seeing when you can get out to feed Cedric and friends. It's amazing how medications affect each of us so differently. I take Baclofen for the spasticity and I take Valium for other symptoms but not together. I think that if you have found some relief,hoping your doctor will allow for it. My sleep is so broken so I hear you on that one,it's frustrating. You are tired but cannot get a sound sleep pattern,it's so nice to see we can all share our commonalities with this illness! Keep us posted,enjoying the updates!

Thanks Avril, yes I love sharing the commonalities because it makes us all feel less alone doesn't it. The broken sleep, night after night is just the worse thing.. for me I've got Amitriptyline, I've been prescribed it for nerve pain but I hardly take it. A side effect of this drug is its sedative effect! It works very well in this respect, so I'm using this to help me sleep a bit better. So pleased you're still enjoying my videos. Haven’t seen you in a while. Good to see you! The spinal tap was very overwhelming cause I thought I might get spinal damage and be paralyzed. A nurse showed how that’s almost impossible to happen. Baclofen has a 4-5 hour span and its done. I take 3 10MG everyday. It helps. I also use Med marijuana. I use Sativa during the day and Intica at night. Helps me a lot to be more comfortable. I still get the restless leg thing here and there throughout the day. I stretch a lot through the day. Generally I feel good most the time but deal 24/7/365 with spasticity, balance, cogfog, mild jerks. Our lives will never be like they once were. I just deal with what I need to at any given time. As long as I’m not getting worse I can accept what comes. Thank you Ocrevus! I have drive 400 round trip for an MRI this Sunday. I went to Portland last week but was 1/2 hour late due to traffic so they had to reschedule. Sucks! But hey no one ever said life was fair. 🤷🏻♂️ Stand Strong Stand Proud my friend. Never give up and march forward as best you can. Just takes a bit longer. Ever watched Aaron Boster on you tube? He’s a neurologist in Ohio and puts MS videos on you tube often. Very informative videos. Have a great day!!

Hi Sheridan, nice to hear from you also !! :) That was also my biggest fear.. that the needle would touch a nerve and do some kind of damage. But since the procedure I've learned that is pretty impossible, I wished I'd have done the research before hand but part of me was happier not knowing. Too much knowledge and I probably would have bottled having it done. Ouch! 400 mile round trip, that smarts. Depending on my Spinal Tap results, I'm probably going to go on Ocrevus. Yes, I'm subbed to Aaron.. he's excellent isn't he. Good to hear from you, all the best - Neil.

Greetings Neil. Thanks for keeping us updated and sharing your thoughts. It reminded me of the Restless Leg Syndrome Diagnosis in my early 20s. I know how hard it is to relax when your legs decide to do the Mambo for hours! ;p Fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, numbness, and later the electric type neuropathic pain were all insane. I was given meds and some OTC natural supplements to help with it all but in the end, it went away on its own (my current docs believe that it must have been a nasty flare that lasted 3 months)...I'm in no hurry for it to happen again. Years later, I did something to help me cope. I started a digital journal with a list of the things I felt I lost due to MS. (After that resulted in making me feel more distraught) I made another one with the things I WANTED to do, but couldn't do yet. "Yet" became my key word. I would look at pictures of food and of activities I wished to partake in and would say out loud: "Not yet, but soon." I fought smarter not necessarily harder. Tonight has been a bit rough, I won't lie, but I'm grateful. I remind myself that I ended 2018 conquering that list. As of now, great pain in my lower back (right side) while feeling numbness in my left leg, has made me apply this technique of taking each day as it is, and not to overthink or overplan. "Not yet" will become: "Accomplished" soon enough. I agree, this journey seems more like a roller-coaster ride. But, because God is our strength, MS won't take away our hope. Sending you guys a hug. We're in this with you.
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jayleen, its interesting you say that your twitching legs kind of went away on their own because this happens to me. Sometimes I won't get it for months, then I'll get it all the time. The Journal must be a great help, I've done something similar myself over the years several times. In fact I was reading mine the other day from 2013, and it was very interesting indeed, how I was describing the pains in my legs even back then. Good for you Jayleen for conquering that 2018 list of yours, it's nice when you set yourself a goal or target.. it's a real sense of achievement when you complete it. Taking every day as it comes, now this is where I tend to struggle a little because I'm always over thinking, trying to foresee the future, what will I be like? How will my mobility be? Will I be almost housebound? I just can't help it, I'm 46 now and 43 years of my life I've bit a very fit and active person. Then boom. I appreciate the hugs Jayleen, sending some right back to you. I need to try this take everyday concept, and try to stop over thinking things - thank you.

Omg I’m so sorry about Molly’s passing 😢 I play a lot of NHL hockey on PlayStation to pass the time and use music as therapy as well when I get overwhelmed by the thought of being 35 and having almost every joy in my life stripped from me. Was the spinal tap painful? I may have to get one done after my next MRI and the name of the procedure makes me queasy lol When it comes to sleep have you ever tried Zopiclone? I take it and it works for at least 5 hours before the pains wake me up
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, I'm with you there with regard to being stripped of my quality of life. I've been dealing with MS since my first symptoms in 2007, but it's only recent years I've had the muscle weakness severely limiting my ability to walk. The Spinal tap wasn't painful at all, it went extremely well but I had a Dr that had being doing them everyday for the last six month, so he was very experienced luckily for me. My advice would be not to look up the procedure because it will put you off. Since having my procedure I've done lots of research on it (not before) and I can honestly tell you it is safe, this was my major worry initially. Try not to worry, hey you'll have to write back and let me know how your MRI and "Tap" goes. I've never tried Zopiclone, although I was once prescribed it many years ago.. I never took it though. Great that its working well for you, and it's definitely worth considering as I don't sleep very well at all. Although having said that, the last few nights have been quite good amazingly!! Doubt it will continue though, it never does. If you look back over the last couple of my most recent videos I've done, I describe in detail the day of my spinal tap and how it went, another video will also tell you how I was getting on a few days later. If you check them out, it may well help put your mind at rest. I'd also be interested to know (if you would like) what symptoms you're having to deal with on a daily basis. Best regards - Neil.

My symptoms on a daily base include poor vision and lack of ability to focus mainly with right eye, my feet are numb, tingly and swollen, weakness in thighs make a short walk feel like a marathon and quickly make my lower back seize up, most of my body is numb except for my shoulders and neck which is hyper sensitive and very painful. I have had 2 surgeries in the past 2 years on my cervical spine due to stenosis and the second surgery was done from the back which caused a huge amount of nerve damage

Hey Georgina, great to hear from you and quite unexpected as I know you’re busy at Uni now. I’d not got around to answering comments on yesterdays video, yours has jumped the queue😉 Yes the Baclofen really wiped me out and I was only taking half a tablet. I can understand how your flat mate is feeling. Some of my subscribers say the effects of Baclofen (for the spasticity) only lasts a few hours. I felt the effects of the Diazepam for considerably longer. I hope you’re keeping well and the ‘POTS’ is under control. Take care. 😊
@sapphiresky79466 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, Baclofen is a really weird drug , I’ve taken it in the past , it took the edge off slightly with regards to my spasticity , but I’ve only ever taken a low lose (10mg daily). As baclofen is a muscle relaxant it’s very much trial & error to find the dose that’s right for you , we need to take enough so it actually has a therapeutic effect , but not go overboard as it will make all the muscles in the body far too relaxed and floppy which causes a whole different set of problems . My neurologist is reluctant to prescribe baclofen to me because she thinks it might make my muscles too relaxed , but I’d rather have that than suffer with stiff legs & back every single day !! I think it’s very wise to give your body a break from your exercising, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I hope you start feeling better soon , hang on in there !! Grace x
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Grace, I totally get where you're coming from with regard to the Baclofen.. I just can't seem to get on with it, this isn't the first time I've tried it either. Perhaps it's just one of those things, and it doesn't suit me. Yes, I decided to give my body a complete break for the entire week. I'm not sure if its a result of trying the Baclofen, or taking Amytriptyline at night to help me sleep, but I've had a bad few days with my mobility. It could be the fact I've not been exercising maybe, so many different variables to consider. My muscles seem to be very wobbly with very little strength in them. Thanks for the message Grace, lovely to hear from you. - Neil x

Hi Neil, I just want to give you some maybe helpful advice to think about concerning the legs spasms you mentioned at night and spasticity. I have myoclonic spasms at night that pretty much only effect my head and chest and occasional legs. It’s caused from a lesion in my cervical spine. so, I was having these every night multiple times a night. Very scary especially when it’s my head. I ended up being to scared to sleep because they can be that bad. I spoke to my neurologist about this and confirmed the above as I just mentioned. She prescribed me Clonazepam. I take it at night. Its in the same family of drugs I believe as diazepam. It’s a common drug for this issue, Iv spoke on other forums etc about it too and many people suffering with this problem take it. Absolute wonder drug!! Can’t recommend it enough. No spasms to the severity it was and no bad side effects.Its definitely worth mentioning to your GP when you have your appointment.
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Adele, nice to hear from you again .. I just Google "Myoclonic Spasms" and had a bit of a read.. THAT is exactly what I've been having this last few weeks in my left leg. My leg JERKS and KICKS OUT very violently that its almost impossible to sleep. It gets stuck in a repeating cycle every 30 seconds or so for hours and hours and I can't sleep because of it. During the day I'm absolutely fine. To have this happening in the neck and chest must be horrendous for you!! I feel scared to sleep too, you just know what we're in for don't you. Thank you for telling me about Clonazepam, yes its in the same family as Diazepam. They both belong to a class of drugs called Benzodiazepines, I'm not sure what the difference is between them. I will actually go armed to my Dr with both of these drugs in mind now. I really appreciate you telling me about this Adele - thank you. Keep well - Neil.

Hi really good video I can really relate to this I have cerebral palsy and I was put on diazepam when I lost my leg and and it pretty much stopped my muscle spasms from my cerebral palsy it improve my mobilty really well just like yourself then was told I can't stay on it and that they would no longer prescribe it for me due to the addictive nature of the medication and now they won't go anywhere near it I have tried all kinds of medication including the horrific baclofen and I was out like a light on it from just half a tablet just like yourself I really wish I could get diazepam back to improve my mobilty and pain from muscle spasms but my pain consultant and my neurologist won't let me have it because they're too scared about the addiction from the valium but it's better to be addicted and pain free living your life then in agony in my opinion hope your doctors give you diazepam and don't make it as hard as they did for me and let you improve your life
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi there, long time no speak.. I recall us conversing before quite a while ago, I hope you're doing ok. I see that you can completely relate to where I am coming from regarding the Baclofen. Like you I only took half a tablet over two nights and it completely did my head in, oh and my body.. it didn't even improve my walking, it made my limbs feel like lead weights, horrible. I've been doing some research with Diazepam, and yes its very addictive. The problem is our bodies build up a tolerance to this drug quite quickly, and hence then we need a bit more of the drug to gain the same level of pain relief. And so this continues. So I think this is what the Dr's are worried about. I'm still going to speak to my Dr about it, because I think as long as somebody on Diazepam is properly monitored then it's safe. In fact, for me I would probably only take it when I'm feeling really bad. I have also heard that "Clonazepam" is another very effective drug for this type of treatment. Have you tried this at all for the spasms?
@OckGal6 жыл бұрын
I take 10mg for mris but don't remember feeling better with my legs. I do remember trying baclofen and not liking it. I forget why bit it didn't feel right. Plus the whole risk of females getting ovarian cysts while on it. I have enough without getting that even if it goes away when you stop the meds. My doc kept pushing me to take it. I was gonna at one point but afraid it'll more weaken the bladder muscles and that's not something I want! Cute birdies!

Hi Lisa, I know all about weak bladder muscles, and yes it certainly is a worry in that respect isn't it. I read that for MS they push Baclofen 1st and foremost, only do they offer other drugs such as Diazepam if the other can't be tolerated. Well, I sure can't tolerate Baclofen, horrible stuff.. makes me feel sick, then it turns my body into concrete, I'm literally dragging my legs up the stairs. Not to mention, it turns me into a zombie! I hope you're keeping as well as can be Lisa.

HI Neil, I was wondering if your improvement with walking after the lumbar puncture could have been more due to the letting out of spinal fluid instead of the valium effects. I don't recall what video I saw some time ago where a person with a spinal fluid disorder (where there is too much fluid in the brain and it is not draining properly) that they could walk better after the puncture. Normal pressure hydrocephalus causes difficulty in walking, but it is mostly found in people over 60 yrs. Anyway, you might mention to your neurologist about the improvement in walking functioning as a result of the spinal puncture.
@NeilBradleyMS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sheri, I found your comment very interesting and so I researched Hydrocephalus. Fascinating!! Very scary as well. I've since watched several videos about this and as you say, usually older people in their 60's and 70's get this. Their walking is effected where they do tiny little shuffle type steps, this is quite different to how I walk. I have to say though I am wondering if it was the removal of spinal fluid, or the Diazepam tablet. I've got an appointment with my Dr on the 15th and I'll go over this with him. Thank you.
@sheri0236 жыл бұрын
You are welcome, Neil. There are other scary hydrocephalus disorders too, like Chiari 1 malformation where the brain fluid has problems getting out. Some times that affects the legs also to spasm. Fun reading all these disorders, but scary at the same time. There was a lady who had it and they diagnosed as MS at first. But usually it can be picked up on an MRI and you have had that already done. Well, good luck on your report of your lumbar procedure. Wish you well, you two are such a nice couple.

Hi Chris, yes Beclofen certainly made me sleep that is for sure, and I took no where near the dose you are on. I suppose it depends what you were originally prescribed Baclofen for, if it was for muscle spasms it may well be doing its job. I take a tablet called Amitriptyline, but not all the time. It's prescribed for nerve pain, but the side effect is a sedative effect so it really helps me sleep. I don't sleep well at all, so this is quite useful to me.

Baclofen doesn't do anything for me. It's like a placebo effect. In my mind, I am expecting it to work, but it doesn't. And I take quite a bit. Let me know how the diazepam works if you get a prescription from your doctor. Did it not make you feel tired though? I'm wondering how I would function if I had something that really made me tired. My fatigue level is beyond horrible and I almost feel narcoleptic. But, if it helps with spasticity, I am almost willing to take that over the fatigue. Let me know what your doctor thinks.

Hi - it was a 5mg tablet and I wouldn't say it made me tired, more kind of chilled out and relaxed.. perhaps if I was to take it every day it would make me tired. But honestly, if my Dr prescribes it for me, I will use it for my bad days as opposed to taking all the time. The body can build up a tolerance to it quite quickly, and hence the need to increased the dose for the same effect. This is what leads to it being addictive. Yes, I will definitely let you know what happens.. in fact I intend making a video about it.
