Post modern society is primarily characterized by the ability of individuals living within it to pick and choose from a diverse set of cultural traits and objects to create their own individual cultural identity. Post modern societies are highly individualistic and often consume oriented. Post modern societies are most likely to develop when there are extremely large populations (in the millions), highly advanced technology (especially communication technology), and a highly specialized labor force. While post modern societies offer more individual freedom, they can suffer from weak social solidarity.
